Science/TechnologyMicrosoft Edge Getting History, Tab Sync Features A Year After Launch by jakepaulson(op): 10:17pm On Jan 07, 2021
Microsoft Edge has started getting history and tab sync features, as per a report. This will let users see full Web history and sync tabs in their browsers. The first stable version of Microsoft's Chromium-based Microsoft Edge Web browser was released in January 2020 and it is finally getting the new essential features. According to the report, these features are rolling out gradually, with United Kingdom being one of the first markets to receive them.

As per a report by The Verge, not all countries have access to the history and tab sync features on Microsoft Edge as of now. While the UK is one of the first regions to receive the new features, other regions will likely get them soon as well.

The history and tab features will let Microsoft Edge users sync all the Web pages that they have visited to, on every device where they are signed into Edge, including Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.
To check and enable the new features, head to Settings > Profiles > Sync. If the History and Open Tabs option is visible, you can enable them.

Microsoft recently updated Edge with native support for Apple Silicon. Microsoft Office 365 apps for Mac were also updated for Mac machines with Apple's new M1 chip.

Meanwhile, Microsoft seems to be working on a new One Outlook App that will allow access across platforms – Windows, Mac, and the Web – as per a recent report. The app is reportedly in its early stages of development right now and is codenamed Monarch. It is expected to deliver Outlook as a single product and will function with the same user experience on Windows and Mac.

PhonesKuo: Apple Will Miss The Shipment Targets For Mmwave-enabled Iphone 12 Models by jakepaulson(op): 6:43pm On Sep 02, 2020
Ming-Chi Kuo has posted a new investor note, claiming that shipments of 5G mmWave-enabled iPhones will fall far short of the current market predictions for this year as well as next year.

Kuo forecasts that Apple will manage to ship 4-6 million iPhones with mmWave in 2020 and 25-35 million in 2021. For comparison, market estimates for this year were 10-20 million and 40-50 million for next year.

He attributes this to the slower than expected rollover of mmWave base towers, a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It makes sense as mmWave is intended for crowded public areas with many thousands of simultaneous users (stadiums, busy squares, etc.). And those are exactly the areas to avoid this year.

All iPhone 12 models are expected to support 5G. However, based on current rumors the vanilla models will only have the slower sub-6GHz flavor of 5G while mmWave, which promises gigabit speeds, will be exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro models.

Note that getting a Pro model doesn't guarantee that it will support mmWave. Rather it will be market dependent – according to Kuo, the US, Canada, the UK, Japan and South Korea are getting mmWave-enabled phones. Europe has a few mmWave networks on the mainland, but may still get only sub-6GHz phones. Also, production issues may have caused the mmWave iPhones to run two months behind schedule.

WebmastersTails 4.0 Anonymous Linux OS Enters Beta Based On Debian Gnu/linux 10 "Buster" by jakepaulson(op):
The Tails development team is currently working on the next major release of the Tails amnesic incognito live GNU/Linux system, also known by many as the Anonymous OS.

Tails 4.0 recently entered beta testing and it's the first release to be based on the just released Debian GNU/Linux 10 "Buster" operating system series, which means that all the pre-installed packages have been updated to newer versions to support the latest hardware components, especially recent Nvidia and ATI/AMD graphics cards, as well as Mac computers.

Tails 4.0 also promises support for Thunderbolt 3 devices, which is now integrated into the latest GNOME 3 desktop environment, with which the upcoming major Tails release will ship by default. Users who own a Thunderbolt device are urged to test the implementation by navigating to Choose Devices > Thunderbolt from the GNOME Settings utility.

Furthermore, in Tails 4.0 users will be able to open persistent volumes from other Tails USB flash drives, add the Files file management app to the list of favorite applications, display the OpenPGP applet on the left side of the TOR status icon, change the default background of the boot menu, as well as to use the default bookmarks from Tor Browser.
"Tails 4.0 is coming on October 22nd, 2019"

Several default apps that are currently available on supported Tails releases will be removed in Tails 4.0. These include the Scribus desktop publishing software and the Math component of the LibreOffice office suite, which can be installed again using the Additional Software utility. Also, it looks like the KeePassX password manager was replaced with the newer KeePassXC.

Also removed in Tails 4.0 is the Home launcher from the desktop and the default accounts in the Pidgin instant messenger app. You can download the first beta release of Tails 4.0 right now from our free software portal if you want to take it for a test drive, but don't use it on production systems. The final release of Tails 4.0 is expected to arrive on October 22nd, 2019.
