Education / Re: Benefits Of Studying In Catholic Universities Abroad by Jakes234: 8:18am On Nov 02, 2016
Friend

From my experience as a consultant, i always advise people to consider other routes if they have been trying a particular route. There are other destinations that you can explore to land you at your desired goal. Aside from catholic schools in usa, are you are aware that you can go to another cheap catholic university in maybe Russia, then transfer to a partner catholic university in germany, spain, portugal even the usa?

instead of waiting and waiting for usa and canada, i encourage applicant to go elsewhere, get the required qualification, after which they can conveniently cross in the nearest future as an expatriate or a subject matter expert in their field.

Anyway i wish you the very best in your pursuit. I am available incase you have any question. God bless

I love the fact that you replied. Am sorry if what I said made you angry, though it was not to make you angry, but to force you to do some research. I think the mistake you made was that you restricted your search to us schools only. There are wonderful opportunities outside the us, and if you read the post very well, you will realize we weren't specific on the us, rather we said catholic universities, and we listed several countries, abi?

Education / Advantages Of Studying In Saudi Arabia by Jakes234: 11:38pm On Oct 28, 2016
With a steady increase in government spending on higher education, Saudi Arabia has taken active steps over the past decade or so to enhance its universities and research facilities and become a leading knowledge economy. With 19 Saudi Arabian universities ranked in the top 100 of the QS University Rankings:

With many institutions offering generous scholarships to international students (in some cases even full tuition waivers), and most courses taught in English, many Saudi Arabian universities have large numbers of international students already enrolled – as well as catering to the many expat families living in the country. If you study abroad in Saudi Arabia, you’ll have the chance to make friends with both locals and students from all over the world. And, if you decide to work in Saudi Arabia after your studies, you’ll most likely cross paths with young professionals from a host of different cultural backgrounds.

Keen to become more international, many universities in Saudi Arabia are keen to attract international students, and offer various funding incentives and scholarships. In addition, the costs of living in Saudi Arabia are relatively low compared to many parts of the world (around 37% lower than in the US as of June 2016, according to Numbeo.com). Renting a one-bedroom apartment in a city center will cost you around US$400 per month, a liter of gasoline roughly US$0.16 and a cappuccino about US$2.57.

Developments in the Saudi economy have opened up opportunities for international graduates to work for a fixed number of years in finance and manufacturing, particularly the oil, IT, healthcare, banking, teaching, telecommunications and construction industries. Major companies based in Saudi Arabia include AE Systems, Cisco Systems, Procter & Gamble, Schlumburger, Nestlé and Siemens. Note that you will need a sponsor to help you secure your employment Visa, though this will typically be your employer.

you decide to return home after your degree, the experience of studying abroad in Saudi Arabia – perhaps with a short period of work experience – will help you gain a global outlook both broadly speaking and within your field, which will in turn add value to your CV. The broad range of soft skills gained from studying abroad, along with specific understanding of Saudi Arabian professional and cultural contexts, will help you to impress recruiters in all kinds of roles and sectors. For guidance on admission processing, do not hesitate to seek our counsel

Education / Career Benefits Of Studying Nursing Abroad by Jakes234: 11:08pm On Oct 28, 2016
Almost anyone considering entering a nursing degree program is likely to wonder what the benefits of studying nursing are. In fact, studying nursing has a number of positive aspects. First of all, it provides graduates with a broad yet stable career path, and also affords students more hands-on experience than many other degree program.

Studying nursing also instills students with broad scientific and medical knowledge while allowing the opportunity for specialization.

Perhaps one of the most tangible benefits of studying nursing is the fact that students are pursuing a career path that is stable. This is because people’s need for healthcare is not affected by a country’s economic climate, and therefore nurses are always in demand.

In addition to the fact that nursing jobs are consistently available, the variety of jobs on offer at any one time can also be incredibly diverse.

Another benefit of studying nursing is that almost every nursing degree program requires its students to complete a significant number of clinical hours at a hospital, doctor’s office, or other medical facility. This requirement provides the student with considerable hands-on experience before she has even completed her degree, which in turn can allow her to enter the job market with a good sense of what a nurse’s job is like.

Those with a keen interest in scientific and medical subjects such as biology, anatomy, and pharmacology will likely find that one of the benefits of studying nursing is the broad knowledge it provides of such subjects.

Nursing is not only an in-demand profession; nursing salaries are also fairly lucrative. With the current nursing shortage, qualified nurses can find exceptional nursing career opportunities across the country. A Registered Nurse (RN) earns an salary of $91,299 per year. We can guide you on affordable destination to study nursing abroad and counsel you on the various options available for you.

Education / How To Work In Canada As A Nurse by Jakes234: 10:42pm On Oct 28, 2016
While Canada opens its doors to internationally educated nurses, there’s definitive steps that nurses must follow to enable you to emigrate and also start working as soon as you arrive. From the get-go, nurses who want to work in Canada must have the professional designations, such as LPN, RPN or RN and must meet the mandatory education requirements for a nurse in Canada.

The first step is to get all of your qualifications and work experience assessed and converted into North American standards by the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS). To do this you must also have a clear idea about which province or Canadian provinces you wish to live and work in. It’s important to note that registration requirements vary from province and territory, and aspiring nurses must be assessed by the nursing regulatory body in the province or territory where they want to be employed as a nursing professional.

Another option is to study nursing in canada. This option makes it easier to apply for temporary or permanent residence after completing your program. Like other nations, Canada has a demand for qualified nurses. With the proper educational credentials, nurses can easily immigrate to Canada and work in the healthcare field. Jakes embassy limited can help nurses and prospective students looking to immigrate to Canada with relevant information and guidance towards making their dream a reality.

Education / Benefits Of Studying In Catholic Universities Abroad by Jakes234: 10:07pm On Oct 28, 2016
You’ve decided to go to higher institution, continue your education, and getting a degree. Attending a college is more than just going to classes, acquiring information and statistics, and earning a degree. Your experience at university will directly affect your opportunities when seeking a career. Attending a university that will help infuse the spiritual and moral principle in your chosen field of study is important.

Whether or not you were raised as a Catholic, these schools offer some unique advantages beyond their special brand of theology.

While founded in the Catholic faith, Catholic schools are very welcoming to students of all religions and backgrounds, as well as those with no religious affiliation. Naturally, if you were raised in a Catholic home, a Catholic university will provide a place that is familiar and welcoming.

The curriculum and course offerings at Catholic universities are often rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition. Students who attend Catholic schools are united by a sense of mission, who want an education with a Catholic worldview, and want to put that into practice in whatever professional career they pursue.

Catholic universities promote service as an essential component of their curriculum. Higher education programs such as the Jesuit or Dominican Volunteer Corps promote service at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Catholic school students learn that they are in fact "their brother's keeper," and have a responsibility to respond to the needs of those around them.

Catholic universities promote self-discipline through clarity of moral vision that is based on the Gospel. Students are challenged to be Christ-like in word and action.

Education / 7 Benefits Of Studying And Living In Belize by Jakes234: 8:03am On Sep 15, 2016
Gazing down onto the crystal clear Caribbean waters, and at the waves breaking on the Mesoamerican Reef, I was overwhelmed by the scenic beauty around me. This stunning seascape was my intro to Belize. What later convinced me I could live full-time in Belize were the vibrant communities and comfortable lifestyle…

So what makes Belize so appealing? I’ve outlined the top seven reasons to live here below:

1. Belize is a stunningly beautiful country. It’s bordered by the clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, which teem with colorful and diverse sea life. Though Belize is only the size of Massachusetts…it boasts the second largest barrier reef in the world…

But there is more than the sea in Belize… Nature is abundant everywhere. You’ll be amazed by the colorful birds, trees, flowers, and creatures…wild jungles…Maya Mountains…winding rivers…productive Mennonite agricultural regions…and the mystical Mayan ruins scattered around the country…

The weather is balmy and tropical. Belize’s tropical climate is a blessing to winter weary expats from northerly latitudes. This is an outdoors-oriented country. Most expats spend time outdoors: walking, swimming, biking, hiking, and enjoying other outdoor activities. And since the natural setting is so comfortable, everybody socializes outdoors. It’s a pleasure to just sit on your outdoors veranda, sip a cold one, and watch the exotic birds come and go…

2. It’s easy to live a healthy lifestyle. Expats often tell me that their health improved after they moved to Belize. They can buy fresh, healthy food, farmed by the Mennonites. Those who live near a beach buy fresh fish directly from local fishermen. They cut out pre-packaged foods. These products are expensive, and seldom available… They often lose weight. They get out and about and burn up calories through activities…It’s easy to get plenty of sunshine and vitamin D in Belize. And the laid-back attitude translates to less stress…which can translate to lower blood pressure…

3. Although small, Belize is a diverse country. Each region is unique. Expats who move here can pick form a variety of diverse regions. They can live on a lively, developed caye (what we would call a “key” in the U.S.) near the reef…on one of the gorgeous southern beaches…or in one of the rich agricultural belts farmed by the Mennonites… Some expats even choose to delve into the Mayan culture and live near a Mayan archaeological site…

And it’s incredibly easy to travel from one scenic spot to another. You can fly from one town to another in less than an hour. You could spend the morning on Ambergris Caye and be in the Cayo (far west)…Punta Gorda (far south)…or Corozal (far north) by the afternoon… The roads between these towns are paved and maintained. Water taxis sail from Ambergris Caye to Corozal, or to Chetumal, Mexico. Buses cover the country’s key routes. It’s easy to get to Mexico and other Central American countries from Belize.

By the way, if you want to travel back to the U.S. or Canada, that’s easy to do from Belize, too. For example, it only takes 2 – 2.5 hours to fly to Belize International Airport from Miami or Houston.

4. The lifestyle is culturally rich and socially satisfying… Belize is definitely a cultural melting pot of peaceful, laidback people. If you appreciate cultural and racial diversity, Belize is comfortable. You’ll experience the Mayan, Mestizo, Mennonite, Kriol, Garifuna, Chinese, Indian, and Middle Eastern cultures if you decide to move here.

Overall everyone gets along amazingly well. Belizeans are typically friendly, helpful and tolerant. Given the mix of races and cultures, you’ll find an environment rich with cultural events… tasty ethnic food… and high energy, infectious music. And because it’s English-speaking, it’s easy to fit in and make friends.

5. A workable cost of living… Belize is not one of the least expensive retirement havens. But for those who move here from a high-end region—such as the USA’s West or East Coasts—the cost of living is considerably less. The cost of living varies within the country. So you can pick a region that fits your pocket book. Those with more money to spend will enjoy the cayes, and the popular beach towns. On a smaller budget? Then check out the Cayo, Corozal, or Punta Gorda.

6. It has a very attractive retiree program. Belize designed their Qualified Retirement Person Program to appeal to North American retirees. You need only be 45 years old to qualify, and spend one month per year in Belize. You also need to have a monthly income of at least $2,000 from a pension or annuity (including Social Security) to qualify. This allows you to bring $15,000 worth of personal goods to Belize tax-free, and pay no Belizean taxes on any foreign-earned income.

7. Belize is an offshore haven and offers secure, private offshore asset protection. In 1990 Belize instituted laws that allow non-Belizean residents to form an offshore International Business Corporation. You can also form a Belizean Trust. These offshore products are inexpensive when compared to those in other popular tax havens.7 Ben

Career / UAE : Work Visa Information by Jakes234: 7:57am On Aug 25, 2016
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has become the business nerve center of the world. A lot of people from across the world move to places like Dubai to fulfill their career dreams. If you want to get employed in the UAE, you will probably first need these three documents prepared- a residency visa, a health card and a labour card.

What all do you need to apply for UAE visa?

When looking for a work visa so that you can work in the United Arab Emirates, you must first find a suitable job. You would be required to prove your qualification for the job. So, carry the transcripts along with you. You can even ask your previous employer for a letter confirming your experience, qualifications or any training that you have received. This would serve your purpose in case you have failed to produce documents supporting your qualifications.

The next thing you do is get a valid national passport for yourself. That ensures your admittance in the country. This passport issued by your country of citizenship should have at least one blank page in it. It must not have in it a visa stamp from Israel. Make sure it is valid up to 6 months from the date you are intending to enter the UAE.

What about visa for the dependents?

If there are dependents with you, it's mandatory for them to have their own valid national passports. If you are married and willing to take your spouse along, you must also get her/him a temporary residency visa. For that you would be required to produce your marriage certificate for verification. And if you are a woman who is willing to take her kids along, you may need to produce a notarized letter or a document stating the father's approval for the same.

Visa validity

You can secure your stay in the UAE for 2 years. You will, however, need sponsorship on account of a business owned in the UAE or a contract with an employer there, in order to obtain the residency visa.

After you receive your residency/employment visa, which is initially valid for 30 days, you need to get your health check-up done. If you are HIV positive, you may not be allowed to work in the UAE. After undergoing a successful health exam, your passport will be marked with a residency visa stamp. It is after the completion of these steps that your employer applies for the labour card by paying a fee of Dhs 1,000 (approximately $272). Since, getting you a work visa is the responsibility of the employer, make sure your employer has applied for your work visa properly. You can help them in preparing the paperwork.

Top Jobs to look for...

Although, you can look for any job, considering, the job possibilities in the UAE are varied, it would prove helpful to you, if you list down the ones that are most in demand. Most of these employment openings are found online.

Areas like engineering, construction and architecture are recruiting thousands of immigrant employees every year. To be, however, on a safer side, look for jobs that promise to sponsor your work visa. English teaching jobs are very popular in the UAE. Interestingly, most of these jobs also sponsor work visa. If you are lucky enough, these jobs might provide you with accommodation facilities through the entire period of contract.

Some might also provide free airfare. English teaching opportunities are promoted in the UAE because of their increasing interest in westernizing their society. These work permits are renewable. So, you can apply for their renewal once their validity has expired.

Career / Here Are The Workers Most In Demand In The UK by Jakes234: 6:38pm On Aug 14, 2016
As the UK economy continues to recover, many firms are increasing their recruitment intake - and here's what's in demand

Nurse in uniform: Nurses jobs are being cut, unions, have warned, as a study shows it affects patient care.
At the peak of the recession, there were hundreds of people chasing jobs in some industries across the UK.
But as the economy has improved, so has the nation’s job prospects. Graduate recruitment at Britain’s top employers is set to reach its highest level for more than a decade this year, and the median starting salary at the country’s leading employers will increase to £30,000 for this year’s graduates.

But it’s not just graduates who are having better luck. It's estimated that almost 40pc of all workers are keeping an eye out for other job opportunities this year, as they feel more confident about either changing careers or finding better roles elsewhere. The UK’s unemployment rate dropped by 35,000 in the three months to March to 1.83m, the lowest level for seven years. A record 31.1m people are in work, and the jobless rate has fallen to 5.5pc.

But if you’re thinking about a new job or fancy a career change, which sectors should you be looking at? Here’s what the experts say.

Information Technology

Technology is fast-moving with plenty of chances of promotion, and demand for IT professionals is surging. Graduates with strong Java knowledge, or Java developers with one to two years’ experience, can now demand an annual salary of £35,000 - a year ago they were looking at salaries of £28,000. Java, a programming language widely used by interactive websites, is frequently cited as the most searched-for skill keyword from employers. A decade ago, smartphones and tablets didn’t even exist, and many companies are still getting to grips with where they should be chanelling their digital efforts.

There were 105,760 jobs advertised in the IT sector in February 2015, jobs listing website Adzuna says, a rise of 6pc in six months. More than 13,300 of those required Java skills.Web developers in general are looking at an average advertised salary of £39,141.

Healthcare, medical and nursing

Nurses are always in high demand in the UK, and specialist nurses working in operating theatres and neonatal intensive care units are listed on the Government's Shortage Occupations List. Recent figures from the health service suggested that one-in-five new nurses in hospitals comes from abroad. Spain, Portugal and the Philippines were the most popular countries to recruit nurses from. Staff nurses earn around £22,000 a year but this rises with experience, and salaries at the most senior level can reach almost £100,000.
There were 97,359 healthcare vacancies listed on Adzuna in February.

Engineering

There are many branches of engineering, from working in aerospace and transport to road and bridge maintenance. However, the UK is facing a chronic skills shortage in the sector and engineers are in high demand. Sir James Dyson, one of the UK's leading entrepreneurs, regularly bemoans the shortage of engineers in Britain. He recently donated £12m to set up The Dyson School of Design Engineering, based in South Kensington, to tackle the crisis.
There were 90,080 engineering jobs listed on Adzuna in February. The Office for National Statistics calculated the median wage for engineering professionals to be £29,700 in 2011.

Accountancy and finance

Being a qualified accountant is one of the most useful skills when it comes to long-term career planning. There is growing demand for accountants, and a number of employers are looking to hire graduates into part-qualified positions to cover a shortage in candidates, says recruitment firm Hays. Being an accountant means less exposure to economic peaks and troughs than careers in sales and business development, for example. Most graduates going into accountancy will train as chartered accountants. Even if people change their minds about becoming an accountant, the skills can be transferred to a wide range of industries and businesses, including law and advertising.
In February, there were 85,780 accountancy and finance vacancies listed on Adzuna, a rise of 11pc in six months.
• Are these the 25 best jobs in the UK?

Construction & Property

The construction industry suffered heavily during the recession as housebuilding and major development projects stalled. However, building activity has risen over the past couple of years, boosted by a strong property market in the UK. Salaries for some construction professionals have risen by more than 10pc in the past year, says Hays.

Quantity surveyors and estimators are receiving the highest increases within this sector, showing a clear demand for more people, the agency added. The construction sector accounts for about 6pc of the UK economy, and things are looking brighter in the sector than at any point since 2007. Last year was the best year for British builders in almost 20 years. And with experienced professionals in short supply, graduate-level opportunities are also on the rise.

Adzuna says that advertised vacancies in the construction sector surged to 50,007 in March, compared to 39,412 in March 2014.
Average advertised salaries rose to £38,971 in March 2015, compared to £33,889 the same time a year ago.
• The cities with higher jobs growth than London

Human Resources

As unemployment falls, there is growing demand for HR and recruitment professionals to handle job applications and hunt for new recruits. To work in HR, you need to enjoy interacting with people, as you’re likely to be handling internal requests and questions from outsiders keen to join the company. Average salaries are around £29,910, but can rise much higher depending on experience and which industry you work in.
There were 28,909 HR roles advertised on Adzuna in February this year, up from 16,989 in February 2013.

Marketing

Marketing was severely affected by the economic downturn but opportunities are increasing as the UK's economic recovery picks up pace. Salaries in the sector can range from a starting base of £18,000, but can go beyond £100,000 for the top roles. Marketing managers typically earn around £47,000 a year.

Marketing is a flexible job, and allows people to work in almost any industry sector, from financial services and consumer goods, to motor and technology. A key part of the role is to understand current and potential customer behaviour, as well as to develop the marketing plan for a product or brand.
There were 23,386 marketing roles listed on Adzuna in February, a 75pc increase from the 13,358 listed two years ago.

Investment / Investing In Russia by Jakes234: 6:08pm On Aug 14, 2016
The Russian economy is developing successfully. Russia became the 156th member of the World Trade Organization. This is an important step towards integration into the global economy. Joining the WTO is a commitment to reduce import duties, simplification of technical regulation and protection of intellectual property.

One of the main objectives of the Government of the Russian Federation today is to conduct a consistent and prudent economic policies aimed primarily at improving the country’s investment attractiveness. Measures have been taken to improve the legal framework, streamline the relationship between investors and the Government, reduce the tax burden on businesses. Macroeconomic indicators, including industrial production growth, demonstrate positive dynamics. We can see the apparent predictability of the national currency and inflation, the volume of investment in fixed capital and foreign investment, the growth of GDP.

The Federal law “On Foreign Investments in the Russian Federation” was adopted in 1999. The law defines the basic guarantees of the rights of foreign investors to invest and obtain their revenues and profits, as well as the business environment for foreign investors in Russia.

International investors are optimistic about the investment attractiveness of Russia in the long term.

What attracts investors in Russia?

Investors are attracted by the opportunity to produce consumer goods and sell them to the growing Russian middle class. Opportunities for growth, particularly in services, is estimated to be attractive.
Competitive cost workforce and developing logistics network are significant advantages to investors. Labour costs in Russia are among the attractive factors.
Investors see opportunities to improve the performance of companies operating in Russia.
Investors note the opportunities for transfer to Russia of modern production technologies and their use in order to gain market share.
Scientific traditions and resources of Russia can make it a leader in the field of technology.
The most attractive feature of Russia is its large and growing consumer market. The interest of international investors in Russia is supported by a large population, increasing disposable incomes and rapid growth of the middle class.

Russia offers investors a fast growth rate, natural resources, well-developed telecommunications infrastructure, a new market and skills which are reasonably priced.

Our domestic market well secured by effective demand, is an established and already a classic Russian investment advantage. We are 143 million — it is the characteristic of the excellent and effective market with rising incomes of the population. For any investor, this is an attractive option. Another advantage is our geopolitical and geographical position, which allows you to place profitable production, focusing not only on the domestic but also on the Asian and European markets. The positive are our macroeconomic indicators: low public debt, a growing economy, a good investment “appetite” and the ability to “digest” the large-scale investment projects. The classic pluses also apply to the quality of human capital. Many investors have noted the presence of highly educated and creative professionals, developed high-tech sectors. An important area is the reform in the power sector, which is already in a fairly serious stage. The Government and investors believe that the sector is attractive, its assets could be privatized, including by foreign companies. We have good examples of profitable investments in the energy sector. One of the key factors of investment is the possibility of public-private partnerships in the sector, provided by the relevant bill.

Sports / Bahrain Drain:: The Exodus Of Nigerian Athletes To The Kingdom by Jakes234: 11:31am On Aug 12, 2016
As a filmmaker, journalist and fan of Nigerian Athletics, I arrived at the World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz in July with two broad goals in mind.

Firstly, I wanted to assess first hand the performance of Nigeria’s Junior Team, most of whom I had met a year ago at Top Sprinter Genesis, the inaugural edition of a Reality TV Athletics talent search in Nigeria which my company, Making of Champions, had produced. Secondly, and most intriguingly for me, I was keen to investigate the growing trend of Nigeria’s best athletes pitching tent for other countries, particularly the Kingdom of Bahrain.

I was looking forward to seeing Precious Moses again, the best young quarter-miler we had discovered across Nigeria at our Top Sprinter “Auditions” in 2015. He won the 400m in Enugu in 48 seconds, the fastest time across all five Auditions we held nationwide. He had been on the cusp of Nigeria’s youth and junior teams, even being called up a couple of times, only to be dropped at the last moment.

At Making of Champions (MoC), we were quite excited about Precious, perhaps one of the most special talents we had identified while traversing the corners of Nigeria to find talent. We had hoped to recruit him into one of our MoC Track Clubs, to be trained by the likes of Olympic Medallists Deji Aliu or Uchenna Emedolu. Unfortunately, while we were still figuring out the logistics and funding to bring him in, we received word that Precious had relocated to Bahrain, and the rest as they say, is history.

Within a year of arriving in Bahrain, Precious had received his Bahraini citizenship and would compete at the World U20 Championships for his newly adopted nation, just as another Nigerian-born athlete, Abbas Abubakar Abbas had done two years ago, when he won 400m Bronze for the Kingdom of Bahrain.

After arriving at the media centre in Bydgoszcz, I picked up the entry lists for the 6-day event and looked for Precious’ name among the Bahraini Athletes. The only athlete that Bahrain had listed in both the men’s 200m & 400m was one Moussa Ali Issa, and it wasn’t until the athletes filed out for the 400m Heats that I was able to verify that Precious Moses and Moussa Ali Issa were indeed one and the same person!

Following my warm reunion with Moussa after his 400m race, it got me thinking – how many of Bahrain’s other athletes at these World U20 Championships could possibly be Nigerian? Surely not all of them? I looked at the other names on the entry list for Bahrain, and the easiest Nigerian to spot was undoubtedly Edidiong Ofonime Odiong – she was the 400m African Youth Champion in 2013 for Nigeria, and finished 6th in the 400m at the previous World U20 in 2014, where she also anchored Nigeria’s 4x400m team to 5th place.

Odiong’s transfer of allegiance to Bahrain was only ratified by the IAAF on June 11th, just over a month before the World U20 Championships. On July 23rd in Bydogoszcz, Odiong would go on to win a stunning GOLD in the women’s 200m for Bahrain with a time of 22.84s, faster than any other Nigerian woman apart from Blessing Okagbare, Senior or Junior, has run since 2012!

How on earth, I wondered, did Nigeria let a Junior Athlete of Odiong’s obvious potential, slip through her fingers, for Bahrain to turn into a World U20 Champion within 2 years of last competing for Nigeria? Odiong waxed philosophical about the departure of Nigerian Athletes like herself to other countries: “If God says this is not where your success is, it can never be there.”

I turned my attention to the other Bahraini Athletes on the World U20 Entry List. There were 2 other female sprinters listed in the 100m & 200m – Iman Isa Jassim and Basira Sharifa Nasir. On speaking to each of them in the mixed zone after their 100m races, I was greeted by the familiar warmth of their raspy Nigerian accents. Aminat Yusuf Jamal, an imposing figure in the 400m Hurdles who was ironically camera-shy, seemed like a dead certainty for a medal but for an unfortunately bad race in the final. She like most of her fellow Bahrainis in Bydgoszcz arrived in Bahrain at some point in the last couple of years from Nigeria.

Iman, previously known as Endurance Essien Udoh, along with Odiong was another product of the once strong Cross River State Athletics programme in Nigeria. Despite never making the National team at any level in Nigeria, she left for Bahrain determined that her Athletic talent would not go to waste, given how difficult and competitive it was to make the National team in Nigeria:

Basira tells me that her Nigerian name is Lolade Shodiya. She used to run for Lagos State at some Secondary School meets and other junior competitions. Similar to Iman, she was under the radar of National Team selectors in Nigeria, and was never called up to represent her motherland before leaving African shores for the Middle East.

The name changes to represent the Arab nation made complete sense to me. If Nigeria wasn’t going to look after the obvious talent in it’s fold, Bahrain could swoop in, look after them properly, touch them up a little and give them new identities that properly reflected the brand, culture and religion of Bahrain.

When the athletes have never represented Nigeria at any level, a switch of allegiance isn’t even needed – all they need is a year living in Bahrain to receive the nationality, and if they’ve never been registered for any IAAF competition with their Nigerian names, even better – a Bahraini name ushers in a whole new identity on the world stage.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of Bahrain’s drain of Nigeria’s athletic talent pool is that they haven’t even needed to recruit the very best Nigerians to make a major impact on the World & Regional Junior levels – even those who never made the cut for any Nigerian team such as Iman and Basira are already Arab Junior Champions, in the 400m and 100m respectively. Moussa was a double Gold medallist at the same Arab Junior Championships earlier this year.

The impact of Nigerian-born Athletes on Bahraini Athletics already extends well beyond the Junior level. Kemi Adekoya, who announced her arrival as a Bahraini Athlete with a stunning victory at the Doha Diamond League in 2014, holds the Bahraini records in both the 400m flat and the 400m Hurdles, and is the current 400m World Indoor Champion. Abbas Abubakar Abbas also won Silver at the 2014 Asian Games, and while at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing he granted me an explosive interview that gave plenty of insight into why many Nigerian Athletes are opting to run for the likes of Bahrain, famously saying that “his blood had turned from green to red.”

The painful common thread (from a Nigerian perspective) that can be seen with most of these athletes, from Moussa to Iman to Abbas, is that they never thought or planned to run for another country, but that the circumstances in Nigeria gave them what they felt was very little or no choice but to leave for Bahrain.

If it were one athlete, one could dismiss their case as an isolated incident. However, with up to five Nigerian-born Athletes at the World U20 Championships for Bahrain, and seven of them set to represent Bahrain at the Rio Olympics, it is high time that Nigerians awoke to the fact that there is virtually no functioning athletics development structure in Nigeria currently. This worrying trend of athletes leaving Nigeria will continue without some kind of urgent, drastic intervention in Nigerian Athletics.

In fact the trend will only increase – the sudden success of the likes Femi Ogunode for Qatar and that of Kemi Adekoya and now Ofonime Odiong for Bahrain will not have gone unnoticed by the thousands of youth still trapped in a country completely devoid of any kind silver lining for Athletes. If we refuse to look after our best talents somebody else will, in a Kingdom far far away.

biggboy:
can you be soecific with the schools? also what is the tuition and processing fee like? Thank you.

tuition fee various from one school to another and one country to another. But the important thing is for the applicant to be honest with himself on what he can afford to pay as school fees so he wont be going after what he cannot afford.

but there are universities that charges about 1400 euros per semester. so once you are given admission, you are to pay the university directly your tuition fee, and not to any agency.

for processing fee, it depends on the agency that is handling it for you, but if you have the time and resources to travel around for visa documentation, then you can also do it yourself. the only reason why its ok to use agency is that they will simplify the process for you so you wont make mistakes that can be avoided. but you also need to be careful of the type of agency you use to avoid falling into the hands of fraudsters.

before using any agency, ensure you go to there office, ask if they are registered with the corporate affairs, also ask if they are recognized by the university they intend processing for you. importantly, check their record to see if they have handled such case before.

if you need further clarification or information, do not hesitate to ask. Thank you

Education / Re: My Course Was Unaccredited By NUC. What's Next? by Jakes234: 1:44pm On Aug 11, 2016
pxjosh:
I just got the information today that my course was among those unaccredited by NUC.

From one WhatsApp post, I read the following lines: "if you're studying any of these courses in Nigerian universities, you're not in school"

I would like to know..what is this issue of accreditation all about? Will it be resolved as soon as possible? ( I am currently in my finials).

Those with knowledge about this should please enlighten me.

It is quite unfortunate that you didnt bother to mention the name of the course and the school affected. anyway, if you are serious and determined, i can assist you to transfer to an european university that is very affordable so you can complete your final year there and earn and european degree. i feel that is the best option for you. thank you

Education / OND Direct Entry Into European Universities by Jakes234: 1:36pm On Aug 11, 2016
OND Direct Entry into European Universities

Associate degrees are awarded only by “community colleges” after two years of study. They are, in some sense, equivalent to our Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or, perhaps, British and Nigerian “A” levels. Universities and colleges award bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees.

Although the word “college” is the generic term for what we would recognize as “university” in Nigeria (Americans describe people as “college-educated” if they have at least a bachelor’s degree) schools designated as “colleges,” for the most part, only award bachelor’s degrees.
The Universities are welcoming applications from OND Holders who are seeking direct entry onto various B.Sc Programs.

you need to answer the following questions

1. what do you plan to study?

2. when do you want to commence the masters program?

3. is your sponsor ready to pay your tuition?

4. whats your plan after the masters program?

5. do you have your transcript available?

if you do not mind, you can forward your academy credentials for assessment and possibly recommendation.
Education / Re: University Or Aviation College by Jakes234: 1:10pm On Aug 10, 2016
Based on the experience of others, I will advise you to go to a university that offers degree program in aviation management. It will advance your career more and offer you the opportunity to not only work as a pilot, but you can end up working as a trainer, become an expert in the aviation industry as well as serve in the management of different aviation companies.

I know of universities that offers the program at a very affordable fee. their students have the opportunity of specializing either as a pilot or an aeronautical engineer. kindly send your O’level result to info@jakesembassy.com , we can forward to various universities in Europe. Also we will encourage you or your parent to call the universities. if you are determined, you can still make it to school for the forthcoming semester.

This is why nairaland remains the best platform because it offers you the possibility of getting answers to important issues using the experience of others.

Stay focused and keep your dream alive. Thank you

so long its legitimate.... and very very affordable...I'm interested

Yes sir. It is 100% legitimate. Also, we always encourage students to pay directly to the university instead of giving any agent to pay for them. Also the tuition fee for the universities in different countries defer, so we always encourage prospective applicant to analyse the different offers in respect of their budget before submitting application.

If you have any question or needs further clarification, we will be delighted to be of help. stay focus on your goal. Thank you
Education / Re: HND And Third Class Students Can Study And Work In USA, Canada And Europe by Jakes234: 12:43pm On Aug 10, 2016
@Ab025

Your grade determines the possibility of getting scholarship or not. Different universities have different entry requirement. But there is no harm in contacting the universities to see what they have. But the universities in Europe are more affordable than their US or Canadian counterpart.
Education / HND And Third Class Students Can Study And Work In USA, Canada And Europe by Jakes234: 12:14pm On Aug 10, 2016
Will I get MSc Admission Abroad with HND or 3rd Class?

Though it is quite difficult to get universities that accepts HND and Third-class for direct admission to master’s degree program, but if well researched you will realize that there are schools in different parts of the world that offers direct master’s degree admission to HND and Third Class holders.

In UK, some institutions may grant you direct admission with HND, while some will ask you to do a Pre-Masters or Post Graduate Diploma to proceed to a Masters.

As For US, According to Dr. Farooq Kperogi a professor, author, and blogger based in the USA, he indicated on his blog that HND is treated almost exactly like a bachelor’s degree in the US.

An Associate degree is an undergraduate academic degree awarded by colleges and universities upon completion of a course of study lasting two years. It's less than a BSc, it’s in my opinion the equivalent of OND, from all readings. While your HND is treated almost exactly like a bachelor’s degree, your OND is equivalent to what they call Associate degree.

Because US universities are likely to place a lot more emphasis on your GMAT/GRE scores, you are most likely to get admission into a Masters if you have an HND PLUS High GMAT/GRE scores. In the US, as an HND holder your chances are better with a High GMAT/GRE score than that of a 2.1 Student with low GMAT/GRE. Depending on the institution, I might add.

For Canada, as of the time of this article, their institutions do not accept HND nor Third Class directly into Master’s program. But the good news is, you can use your HND or 3rd Class BSc to gain admission into a post-graduate diploma, post-degree certificate or an advanced certificate program and then progress unto a Masters after completion.

As an HND or 3rd Class Bsc Holder, you can also pursue a BSc in Canada. If you choose this option, some courses can be waived for you, so that you only spend about 2-3 years to gain your Bsc in Canada.

The Second Million Naira Question is:

Must I write a TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT, GRE etc.?

Most of the institutions we refer you to will exempt you from TOEFL/IELTS. Some will also exempt you from GMAT/GRE. However, if you want to keep your chances of admission wide open so you have more choices and offers, then it's best for you to write the TOEFL/IELTS and GMAT/GRE Exams. These exams are usually valid for presentation to your chosen institution of learning for up to 2 years.

The 3rd and Final Question is about Age

Question like – I am over 40 years old, can I apply for a Post Graduate Diploma in Canada? Or put in another way, I am over 40 years old, will I get a student visa to study a Post Graduate Diploma in Canada?

Again, it depends.

On the surface, there appears to be nothing on the embassy websites indicating age restrictions on study permits in Canada other than you need to be 18 to apply or else your parents/guardian need to apply for you.

However, applications from individuals approaching 30 to 40 and above could be subject to additional scrutiny to ensure that you will fulfill the requirement to leave the country when your study permit expires.

The point is, you will be required to submit convincing evidence that will strengthen your application if there is any gap after your last study. You'll have to submit exhaustive evidence of what you have done during the gap period up to the present.

Because, let's face it. At 30 approaching 40 or above, you have some sort of background, education, have done some sort of work, and have some history pertaining to education, work, means of income etc. So the question would be – Why now? Why are you returning to school now and why have you chosen the course you want to study?

If you continued your studies but have not graduated, were employed, or did some sort of charity, or travelled or were involved in self education etc, your need to provide STRONG and CONVINCING evidence to support your application for a study permit. These include (transcripts, letter of appointment, letter from employer, pay slips, ID cards, photographs, receipts etc)

Below is a chart, you can use in making decisions about your length of study and entry requirements into programs offered by institutions in Canada, it's by no means exhaustive, but should give you an idea of what to expect when applying.

Decision Chart: Canada Program Lengths and Entry Requirement

* Certificate 1 year program – OND/HND
* Diploma 2 year program – HND
* Advanced Diploma 3 year program – HND
* Degree 4 year program – WAEC
* Post-Graduate studies 1 year program – 3rd, 2nd Class
* Master 2 year program – 2.1
* Doctoral 3 – 4 year program – Masters, 2.1

Study Work Permits
When you get your admission and study permit with your HND/3rd Class, as a student, you are entitled to work for 20 hours per week during academic session but you can work as much as you want during holidays.

Post-Study Work Permit
You will be entitled to a 1 year working permit in Canada after completing one academic year program or a 3 year work permit after you have completed a 2 year or more academic program in Canada.

Residence Permit
You can also apply for a residence permit after you have completed 12 months of full time work in professional or skilled job. You'll do well to consult the Canadian Official website for more information on this.

Other Cheaper Options in Europe

If you cannot afford the tuition fees being charged in Canada and USA, we have good universities in Europe that charges affordable tuition. The universities offer direct masters degree admission to HND and Third Class Students and their tuition fee is around $1500 to $2000 per semester. Once you are done with your masters degree.
