Why has Tinubu been hellbent on making June 12 about himself and cronies instead of about MKO Abiola? Buhari has done more to immortalise Abiola than Tinubu himself. On the first June 12 of Tinubu's tenure, he seized the opportunity to unveil the largest portrait on earth at Eagle Square. It was a portrait of himself! He has since continued in that trajectory of self-immortalization by renaming every new and existing National Monument after himself.

In the second year, he cancelled Presidential live broadcast in favor of addressing a joint session of the national assembly. Instead of speaking about democracy, he used the opportunity to gloat about party politics and how happy he was to see all opposition in disarray. The megalomania is disgusting and it doesn't portray the behaviour of someone who truly fought for democracy as peddled.

It was just an overzealous supporter in the crowd trying to get close to the President, probably to beg for alms. Hence, the "leave him alone" statement. Every single supporter in the venue were mobilised and brought in by the governor and his team, anyway. They even had t-shirts, fez caps and flags. The likes of Uba Sani can't deliver Tinubu in the North.

However, the lacklustre reception he got from the state should tell him how unpopular he has become. Coming to Kaduna and attempting to throw sheds at Elrufai was petty and made him look small. The last time he visited Kaduna, he showered praises on Elrufai and publicly begged him to work with him before proceeding to betray him. He's not winning over any true Northerner with such two-faced behaviour. Northerners are not pretentious and they only respect honesty, integrity and "Amana" (trust). Whether real or imagined, that is the secret behind Buhari’s cult-like status. Tinubu only got so much votes from the North in the first place because they were compelled by that "amana" to keep their word. He has broken that trust.
