Tottenham kicked off Thursday night football with a 2-1 win over Ferencvaros. While Tottenham dominated possession throughout the clash, the Hungarian team were no pushovers and created multiple big chances. Tottenham took the lead in the 23rd minute through Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr. He was assisted by fellow midfielder Lucas Bergvall. Spurs had to wait till the 86th minute to double lead. Brennan Johnson's sizzling form continued, with the winger placing his shot to the bottom left corner. The goal was assisted by James Maddison. Ferencvaros scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute through Hungarian striker Barnabas Varga.....

On 1 September 2023, Chelsea completed the signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City for £40 million with £2.5 million in add-ons. Fans were skeptical about the signing. While Palmer had scored for Manchester City in the Community Shield and the UEFA Super Cup, many saw the signing as an unnecessary addition to a bloated and inexperienced Chelsea squad.
