Marriage has to do with two people from different background and with probably different beliefs, religion, tribe and custom coming together to live under the same roof as man and wife. Wedding is for just one day but marriage is for a lifetime. Therefore it is absolutely imperative that more attention is given to marriage planning than wedding planning. Don’t spend months preparing for wedding and neglecting the basic factors that make up a successful marriage. Ensure that the foundations of you and your partner is firm, strong and rooted upon the word of God (Psalm 11:3), so that after the wedding when trials, challenges, oppositions and temptations come your marriage can stand the test of time and emerge victorious. Courtship period comes before marriage. Nobody wishes to go into marriage only to jump out within a short period, but one can afford to do that when in courtship if there are compatibility problems which may claim to be irreconcilable. Let’s look at 10 major points to consider before venturing into marriage. 1. Your reason for getting married should be love-based There are hundreds of reason why people get married, but are the reasons genuine enough? You shouldn’t get married because of family and societal pressure, you shouldn’t get married because all your friends are, you shouldn’t get married because you are faced with an unplanned pregnancy, also you shouldn’t get married because of the financial comfort you stand to derive from your partner. The most important reason why you should get married is because both of you are truly in love with each other along with your good and bad qualities. Courtship is that period when you should compile a premarital checklist. Ask yourself if you are emotionally ready for this kind of commitment. Can you see yourself with your partner 50years down the road? Marriage isn’t a bed of roses, there are bound to be challenges. So get married because of love so that when you are faced with issues, your love for each other would conquer all. 2. Your partner should be your soul-mate If you want to enjoy a blissful marriage, you should marry your soul-mate. A soul-mate is that person who strongly resembles you in attitude and beliefs, a person with whom you have a strong affinity, shared values and bond; often a romantic bond. Soul-mates have a sense of familiarity and harmony between them that brings out the best in both. You can foster those qualities by putting in time and effort into your relationship. 3. You should trust each other It’s one thing for you to have a soul-mate that you are emotionally attached to, but how is the issue of trust working out for you? You should have a level of trust that is beyond reproach for your partner. Trusting your partner means to have confidence in his or her character and judgment to a level where suspicious thoughts would never creep into your mind whether you are absent or present with them. Many marriages fail not because there’s no love, but because there’s a profound breach of trust. 4. You should not be overly jealous A certain amount of jealousy may be good to keep the relationship in check and to ward off unscrupulous persons that may want to disunite couples. Jealousy can be extremely damaging to the well-being of couples. When you suspect or believe that your partner is unfaithful even when there’s no concrete evidence to support that claim, then it means you are being jealous. Unmerited suspicion can cause a great deal of distress and when not curtailed can lead to breakup. Have the confidence that your partner is trustworthy and will remain faithful to you. Trust each other unless there’s a good reason to doubt. 5. [b]Divorce-proof your marriage[/b] Once the marriage certificate is signed, it means the covenant is sealed. You need to make commitment to love, honor and cherish each other for the rest of lives. The best way to make your marriage divorce-proof is to acknowledge your marital vows and understand that divorce isn’t an option. Postponing or even cancelling wedding has a less devastating effect than divorce. Make plans to attend marriage counseling together, seek advice and ask questions from couples that have been married for above 25years and are still happy together. So man determines how he succeeds in life. I will be highlighting 5 major things you can do to bring out the best in you. Touch of excellence When you are excellent it means you surpass others in good qualities that makes you unique. Are you working with a firm? You have a build a reputation that would make you indispensable. When you have touch of excellence, you don’t only stand out among others, but you also inspire them by your philosophies. Irrespective of your discipline in life be it a technician, a lecturer, an entrepreneur, a manager, a driver, a producer etc, apply touch of excellence by making your products and services exceptional from the conventional way others do them. Think positive, think possibility Man’s greatness lies in the power of his thoughts. Mental dormancy is the reason for backwardness in many. Therefore improve your mental capacity. This is what happens when you begin to think; your thoughts create an image, and that image forms a picture that controls your life. Have a “I can do it mentality”. Are you a lady who always thinks she won’t get married? Begin to think marriage, see yourself as the best woman a man can find. In proverb18:22 says he who finds a wife finds a good thing. Were you born handicapped or engaged in an accident that made you physically handicapped? Remember Helen Keller? She was born deaf and blind, but the never saw it as a limitation. She was the first deaf and blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. She was an American author, political activist and a lecturer. When asked how she became so successful, she told them that blind minds are worse than blind eyes. So, can you now see that every battle is won or lost in the mind? Every great achievement in life is a product of positive and possibility thinking. Be courageous, be determined No matter how much you have been frustrated before, no matter how many times you’ve tried and failed, be determined to make it. Thomas Edison who invented electric light bulb did an experiment 10,000 times to find the right materials for the light bulb. Nothing works out in your life until you are determined to make it work. Being courageous means going ahead to do something despite the fear, opposition and pains. It means striving in the face of adversities; it means bravery. Determination means facing challenges with a never-give-up spirit. Learn to build up your self-confidence, trust in yourself and your inbuilt ability to bring out the best in you.
