Hello, everyone! I got admission into Master of Education at Thomson River University, BC. I received the admission message in July, to resume study in September but I had to request for deferment to the next fall (Sept. 2027) in order to have enough time to prepare. You need to calculate your Proof of Funds (POF). This should cover your first-year tuition fee + the new living expenses of CAD 23,448, and then you deduct the CAD 6,000 tuition deposit you have already paid.

You can also consider getting a GIC for the living expenses to strengthen your proof of fund availability.

The source of funds is very important, so make sure you can clearly explain and document where the money is coming from.

You should also prepare a strong Statement of Purpose (SOP) explaining:
- Why you want to study in Canada.
- Why you chose the school.
- Why you chose the course, especially considering your previous Master’s degree.
- How you intend to fund your studies and the source of your funds.
- Your plans after completing your studies.
- Your ties to your home country and why you intend to return after your studies.

I said previously: there is no specific or general list of documents that every individual will need to apply for a Canadian visitor visa.


Every case is different. Even within the same family, the documents my sister will use may be completely different from the documents I will use because we have different lives, circumstances, and experiences. It also depends on the answers you provide when creating your profile and, generally, who you are.

For example, if you say you were a student from 2005 to 2009, you should provide your BSc certificate or other documents to support that claim.

If I say I own a business, I can provide my Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificate, business tax returns, and, if I import goods for sale, documents such as a Bill of Lading or Air Waybill.

If I export goods from Nigeria through my business and make money from those exports, I can provide documents to show IRCC that the business is legitimate, such as an NEPC Exporter's Certificate, which proves that the business is registered to legally export goods from Nigeria.

The business should also have a bank account in the business name, and the bank can provide a letter showing that I am the authorized signatory on the account.

If you work for a company, you may need an employment letter, tax documents, payslips, bank statements, and other supporting documents that show who you are

So, when I say no one can give you a universal list of documents, this is what I mean: whatever you tell IRCC about yourself, you should be prepared to support it with appropriate documentation.

The thing is, most applicants are always looking for templates, samples, and structures that may not even be appropriate for their own situation. Some people have copied and submitted the exact list of documents used by another applicant, only to get refused. Then it becomes a case of “I did everything. I submitted everything.”

What they fail to understand is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to visa applications.

What every applicant should be doing is critically asking themselves: Does this support my application? If the answer is yes, include it. If the answer is no, remove it, even if your blood sister submitted the exact same document and got approved.

• No changes after submission: Chevening does not allow you to swap course choices once your application is submitted, except in rare cases with special permission granted at the interview stage.
