Nairaland / General / Greater Than 2017. by jasonghdank(m): 12:03am On Jan 02, 2017
You are probably overjoyed by the fact that another year has passed and you are thankful to be alive to witness it. However, the truth of the matter is that, every new year,in this case 2017 is fortunate to have you. Because you have the power to influence the events of 2017, it is you that is going to bring honor to the year 2017,not the other way round. 2017 is like a desert, it has nothing in it to give you, however you have everything to give the year 2017. In Christ, you don't have to pray for a good year or hope that things will be different for you, rather you should understand the fact that you are the best thing that happened to 2017. If 2017 was a human being,He/she would be so proud to know you, willing to serve your commands, willing to do anything in His/her power to please you. That is who a Christian is, You have the power to shape the year however you wish. Whether good or bad,the words and actions of you and I,will determine whether 2017 ends up being a good year or a bad year for us all. Don't be overly excited that you are among the living and forget the gospel truth that you have it in you to bring glory to the year 2017. Being alive is a gift from God and must be appreciated. 2017 is desperately counting on you to achieve something impactful so that it may be praised and honored than it's predecessor(2016). Don't underestimate the power of God in the life of his children. How can 2017 bring you any misfortunes if you are properly exercising your authority over it? Illustration, let's assume 2017 is a bare ground (soil) and you a farmer,is it not your seeds that are going to be planted into the ground for it to germinate and bare fruits? Thereafter, that particular ground will be praised of being a fertile land, which brings-forth good fruits. So there you go,the year, whether 2016 or 17 does not matter, the power to make a difference still remains with you. Stop the wishing because it won't bring you any results and take control. You've been receiving good wishes every year since you can remember yet still you haven't received any of those wishes, the wishes alone won't bring results, not until you understand that it is you that holds the steering wheel of the vehicle(year). Bye
Nairaland / General / Africans And Hypocrisy. Why Positive Change Eludes Us. by jasonghdank(m): 4:46pm On Aug 28, 2016
Africa! The parent of civilization. When ancient Africans where building huts ,planting and harvesting crops ,Europeans where living in caves, having little to nothing at all to eat. History bears witness to this, and no one can dispute the fact that Africa as a continent was way ahead in terms of standard of living, life-span, Leadership and so many other things. Europeans were during this period ,living without law and order, with cannibalism being a norm. 5000 years down memory lane and it's as if the Africa continent is a newly found Planet, filled with apes. Instead of Africans to grasp their rightful place as the leaders of the world, we are rather begging for bread from those that once lived a life inferior to what we had. I won't even get into the vast amount of natural resources that can be found over here. It's clear that even with double ,hell triple of the resources with currently have, we are still going to be where we are without any positive change. And this is not because our leaders are incapable of handling our affairs, they are more than capable on so many levels. And can everyone for once shut the hell up about corruption? Yes, corruption is a contributing factor, and that is all to it. The main culprit behind our woes is the reason we can't identify the actual problem in Africa. Oyinbo came to us with, luxury goods , firearms , textiles etc. is it fact that we had never seen a mirror prior to the arrival of Oyinbo? Our initial relations was strictly business, and you can be sure that Africans were very pleased with whatever they got from their business partners. Everybody was happy. And I like to think that no one was cheated. The value of gold, ,diamond, ivory was not as it is today. We got exactly the value of what we had to offer. Can we move on now? "Stealing" our wealth as some put it, was/is not a big deal and our leaders at the time didn't see this as a problem. But then "Stealing" our capable men and women which occurred much later crippled us and is what has brought the paradise of the ancient world to its knees. Oyinbo brought something else that we embraced so dearly without first understanding the concepts and principles. One is Religion, the second being the almighty democracy. Religion has contributed bountifully in terms of pulling our continent and respective nations backwards, Democracy has also played a major role, but these two are NOT the problem. We were doing just fine before these two arrived on the scene. Reason, I think Religion and Democracy is not the problem because the people that introduced us to it lived by it, and they are ok, they are more than ok, they are doing great. Hypocrisy is the foundation of most if not all the problems we facing in Africa right now. Religion equals Hypocrisy and I can prove it with certainty, how? So many religious people are going to debunk these facts and claim the problem comes from elsewhere, and has nothing to do with their believes. The basics of Democracy simply is that, people can have a say on issues concerning their nations or something like that. Everyone can voice out their opinion at any given time, but Religion is the very opposite of that, what your pastor or religious leaders say is most often final, because they claim to speak on behalf of god. These two systems cannot co-exist because they are the very opposite of each other. Africans are hypocrites, thick skinned, proud and gigantic hypocrites. It's a time bomb, a self destructing system that we live in. We are always so keen to blame our leaders for the hardships and also accuse them of incompetency and corruption, these leaders do not care about the name calling and insults we throw their way, they've accepted the brands we've given them. If you've already labeled me a corrupt leader, why won't I live up to the hype and actually be a corrupt leader? It's well known that politicians are crooks, liars and selfish. Whiles our Pastors ,Imams, are angels from above. Is it possible that the entire set of politicians we have are selfish and is it possible that the entire set of Pastors and Imams we boast of are the angels they portray to be? We are always attacking and accusing someone or something else for our problems but never ourselves, we never accept responsibility for our mistakes. it's never our fault. There is always a culprit to blame. Meanwhile the first step to becoming a better person is by first accepting you messed up. You can never become a better person if you always blame someone else for your problems. Hypocrisy is a disease that is sucking the life out of us, everything about us is fake.
Hypocrisy is when someone who is not married nor does this person have any intention of being married in the near future but successfully slept with more than 5 partners and counting, thinking he/she is better than someone who prefers to be married to a person of the same sex, not just to sleep around but to settle down with one partner. Which is better? Which of these two people are at risk of contracting an STD's? Which of these two is likely to have children with multiple partners? The answer I'll give is that, none of the above is right. Both should not happen in the first place. And that is my opinion. Can anyone sense how judgmental my opinion actually is? I'm being judgmental with my answer, because I think what these two chose to do with their lives is wrong and I know better than them. That is a typical African mind for you. We think what we know is better than what others know, we think what we do is better than what others do, we think how we dress is nicer than others. We all think we have an opinion about how someone else chooses to live their life. And so we start a trend of fakers, cause I know my friends and family are going to judge and criticize me if I promote a life style contrary to theirs. god forbid I attempt something which is highly frowned upon by society. Due to this , I would rather be fake, and pretend to be someone I am not, because as a friend or family your approval means the world to me. And if by being fake, you accept me and treat me good, that would motivate me to become a faker. We are now a bunch of trend followers ,we always follow whatever is currently trending ,never being able to start one ourselves. It may take another 200-300 years before we can actually witness any hope of positive change. Unless we become free thinkers, produce originality , refrain from judging or frowning on anything contrary to what we know or believe. Unless the discrimination against other tribes actually stops. Unless we learn to accept our own Bleep ups. Until the time we can practice what we preach. Until a time we let go of extreme religious practices and adapt critical thinking, renewing our minds and actually being who we are ,rather than what someone says we are. Until such a time, positive change will always elude us, and just as we have always done, we'll blame others for our problems. But the problem has always and still remains US. God Bless Africa.

Excuse the grammatical mistakes.
