The gamhar rz did really well and the fruits are amazingly big.
Even though it wasn't well fertilised or sprayed with any chemicals because of my absence the rain helped it and it produced well.

Let put it in record. Grade1 range between 13k-10k yesterday, and 12k this morning. 😆 Lot of speculation going...... Will there be bonanza this year? Can it reach 68k because that is highest I sold last year. Doctor, professor, carpenter, bricklayer and full time farmer won shop tomato bonanza 😅. If you have not, do now, make you no carry last.
🙏 show us the progress of your tomato farm

What's the price in your location?
I made a mistake earlier I was judging by the rate my colleague sells his tomatoes he sells it at the rate of 1600/kg to a supermarket but in the open market here in abeokuta there is too much tomatoes from the north and the prices are very ridiculous ranging from 20k -28k for a 60kg hausa basket I think the price will go up soon if the supplies from north stops coming in

Saaf vs ridomil gold which is better for tomato plants

The best crop to grow in Nigeria all year is the habanero aromatic pepper that's sold in kg.
Nothing beats them in weekly revenue.
Instead of onions, you grow garlic since it's same management but garlic is more expensive for the seedlings.
between ginger, garlic and onion which one is profitable to farm in this coming dry season

I do not outrightly condemn grafting, the guy is a newbie and he has already transplanted, grafting is not an option for him at that stage, I only suggested options with which he can pick from to manage his crop since he has transplanted.
I don't do grafting nor use grafted seedlings and I will never do. I have better cultivars with better yield ( even more than double the yield of what you quoted above) and I have no worry about BW.
Pls 🙏 where can I get ansal f1 seeds in Ogun state

There are other varieties with high yield and bw resistance like Ansal f1. You can try that variety too.
I need a good variety to cultivate for my next batch

Smh sha, ignorance is a disease. When you don't know something ask and listen those who know and have actually done it. Especially when you meet people who do things commercially.

All the primitive measures you mentioned won't work for RZ seeds, if your soil has a heavy BW resistance, been there done those years ago. They'll work with Rambo, plantinum and the likes but with RZ you'll still end up losing around 30% of your crops (which makes no sense considering the price of the seeds).

I thought you'd mention nuking the soil with sulfur then restore the beneficial organisms after, but nah you haven't even gone that far.

That said a number of serious farmers already graft their tomatoes and have abandoned the primitive 1.5kg - 2kg per plant yield.
But pls I still need to ask
Tomatoes hasn't been grown on my farm before it's only cassava two years ago it has been a virgin land since
I want to know my chances of getting a good crop out of 100%
I also fumigated the land with Neem oil prior to transplanting
AgricultureRe: Step By Step Improve Way Of Cultivating TOMATOES by Jaywrld(m): 8:13am On May 04, 2025
Lanjonath:
It definitely isn't cheap because even the RZ tomatoes aren't cheap seedforth the guys that bring in RZ seeds also sell rootstock (something they won't do if they didn't have customers who were buying, but you usually have to pre-order).

But leave the farmer who's still trapped with last decades knowledge to wallow in his lack of knowledge. Because you don't see every Tom, Dick and Harry doing something doesn't mean it isn't being done. I know 3 farmers who average 3.8kg+ per plant with zero BW incidents and there's also a method that was shared by Pistota on how to crash the price of tomato rootstock completely (but you need to learn to crawl before you learn to run) and I know someone who's already doing this.

But if you decide to do Rambo or Platinum, they're also good cultivars like I said earlier.
If i can learn how to graft before I'm nursing my next batch I will grow some rz varieties to experiment
Thanks for the enlightenment 🙏

I think i would stick with Rambo
It would make sense for a newbie like me and when I advance in knowledge I can graft or go into greenhouse farming directly which is my plan

Mrdellychy:
Lol, pls ignore him. The grafting option is not for you or are you into research and development? (Maybe those growing perennial crops may find it useful).
You should hav asked him to name just only one tomato rootstock that can be grafted and give 99% BW resistant cultivar as he claimed. Even the Almighty research and development firms like East-west seed, technisem, etc...the best they can offer is 50% (intermediate) BW resistance cultivar.
I have the same thought too
Grafting is not really ideal. If you search the internet the best way to avoid BW is planting resistant varieties
I haven't tried grafting though but I don't think it would be worth it
99% success rate that's questionable
If varieties like Rambo f1 can yield 2kg per plant then it's okay with the strong resistance to bacterial wilt it possesses
AgricultureRe: Step By Step Improve Way Of Cultivating TOMATOES by Jaywrld(m): 2:13pm On May 03, 2025
Lanjonath:
Grafting with a resistant rootstock that's the only sure way to grant you 99% success anything else and you're playing with fire (speaking from experience). Other methods (Copper, Biological, Ph) you can try with cultivars that have some level of resistance but with RZ seeds that have zero resistance, if you aren't grafting, you're basically playing Russian Roulette with your investment.

To graft, you need to know how to get the right rootstock and the technical know-how to graft.
From your previous talks you must be growing rz varieties so can you explain how you manage to successfully grow them

AgricultureRe: Step By Step Improve Way Of Cultivating TOMATOES by Jaywrld(m): 5:03pm On May 02, 2025
Mrdellychy:
1. Biological method. This involves the use of beneficial microorganisms to control/prevent disease in your farm. You can get them online under diff trademarks. I learnt this from emmaachile.

2.chemical method.
a. Treating your soil with copper based fungicide can also suppress BW
b. Treating your soil with velum prime.

3. Conventional method.
a. Raising your soil pH by applying agricultural lime can suppress their activity
b. Adding organic matters to your soil can also minimize their effects.
c. Prevent waterlogging/flooding by creating avenue for free flow of erosion during rainfall. Sometimes, I deliberately cut my ridges in area proned to waterlogging for water to waka pass .
Thank you very much for the info
