January 1, 1914 did not just create a country. It created a tension. Overnight, the Yoruba, the Igbo, the Hausa, the Fulani, the Kanuri, the Tiv, the Ijaw, the Efik, the Edo — over 250 distinct peoples with their own languages, their own laws, their own gods, their own histories were handed a single passport and told: you are one. But nobody asked them. Not the Alaafin of Oyo, Not the Sultan of Sokoto, Not the Obi of Benin, Not the elders of the Igbo communities who had governed themselves through democracy long before Britain existed. None of them were consulted. Chief Obafemi Awolowo would later describe Nigeria as "a mere geographical expression." Not a nation, Not a people. Just a space on a map drawn for British convenience. And the numbers reveal the cost of that convenience. The Northern Protectorate was losing money. The British calculated that merging it with the wealthier south would save them approximately £100,000 per year in administrative costs. One hundred thousand pounds. That was the price of our unity. Not shared values, Not common destiny, Not the will of the people. A budget problem. Yet here we are — 110 years after that amalgamation still bearing the name a journalist coined and still living inside borders a colonial administrator drew. And this is the part that should make you stop and think. Flora Shaw never settled in Nigeria. She named us and moved on. Frederick Lugard left after his tenure ended. They returned to Britain, wrote their memoirs, and lived out their days far from the consequences of their decisions. But we remained. We inherited the tension. We inherited the fault lines. We inherited the arguments about who belongs, who controls, who gets what. Every ethnic crisis. Every political division. Every debate about restructuring. Every question about whether Nigeria truly works, all of it traces back, in some way, to January 1, 1914. To a merger nobody voted for. To a name nobody chose. But here is the other truth. Within that forced union, something real was built. Nigerians created one of the greatest literary traditions in the world. Wole Soyinka won the Nobel Prize. Chinua Achebe gave the world Things Fall Apart. Fela Kuti gave the world Afrobeat. Nigerians built businesses, raised families, crossed borders within this country, fell in love across ethnic lines, and made something out of what Britain left behind. The name may have been foreign. But the people made it their own. Nigeria was never supposed to work. And yet here we are, Still standing, Still arguing, Still building. Maybe that is the most Nigerian thing of all.🇳🇬 |

The ADC party hijackers should write a resignation letter on his Behalf since they have perfected the act of forgery |
So when someone win a primary election, the leaders of the party can replace the Name overnight and claim it is internal party issues. The ADC party constitution clearly stated that you must be a financial member for one year before you can be elected into leadership role in the party but all those spent force knows the right thing instead of this shenanigans and Emotional Blackmail. |
