Celebrities / Still On The Open Letter Matter, Open Letter To Nollywood by Jekanmo: 10:21pm On Jan 05, 2014
NO TO RELIGIOUS ROLE

Dear Nollywood,
In this era of open letters, writing you one is long overdue. This letter will skip the normal routine of pleasantries and go straight to its objectives.

No point reminding you that you are an edifice housing all and sundry that eke out a living in you. You tend to be a beautiful house built on moral, ethnic and cultural structure. But sad to say your inhabitants are defacing you. Your products as well as your inhabitants have a greater effect on the general populace. A part of which idolise, crave for and make your inhabitants role model hence living or want to live the kind of life they live. On this note, uprightness, good moral behaviour, an exemplary way of life is expected of them at all time.

Not going farther, this missive will not entirely be about you(nollywood) but about misinterpretation being carried out by your people. It is important to talk about two things, your Inhabitants and your Products before going into the misinterpretation . By Inhabitants this epistle is referring to the actors, actresses, producers, directors, marketers, make-up artists, the waka-pass, etc. And by products it's referring to the cumulative efforts, task, assignment day and night, rain and sunshine undergo by the aforementioned set of people in sending a message to the general populace.

The Inhabitants now and the Products later. Using your yoruba speaking Inhabitants as a case study, few of them stand tall. Most of them(no apology) are full of scandals, one dirt or the other. They've all got their hand soiled. In one's religious book, it is clearly stated that you can change a bad deed or idea in three ways, you can change it using your hand, if you can't you use your mouth, if you can't you use your heart by praying against it. Though few of them would want to stand tall but they have shut their mouth, handcuffed their hand, can't say if they have closed their heart too to the abnormally turned normally under your nose.

In your house, illegal sexual intercourse is a very normal thing to do. And your guys have redefined and refine it, and they tagged it "rosco". They modified it, making it seems harmless like taking a cup of water. For an upcoming actress, she has to be anointed sexually before she could appear in one or two scenes. Securing a role is not on merit or hard work but how sexy you are and can go down with the producer cum director. For an actress who painfully having wrote a script, source for resources to produce it must again pass through the long pipe of a marketer before her movie could hit the market. In the quest of living up to the 'celeb' lifestyle they (female) can go to bed with every dick and harry who has little cash to spare for them. Name the spot, the location and they will gladly name the price, before you say Jack Robinson they are there. With them morality is long lost. The question for you Nollywood is are these daughters of yours qualify to be role model? In one religion they are only qualified for stones and whips. If this is what is going on with their private life little wonder we have low quality, shabbily produced and poorly written movie. The men among them see nothing wrong with drugs, Indian hemp, drinking, deceiving young girls promising them a scene just to get down with the innocent girls. If these are crop of ladies and gentlemen in Nollywood, then the help of soothsayer is not needed to tell what the Product will be. Definitely they will and can only write picking from what is going on around them. Few of them could think and reason outside the box. They have become lazy, they can not do any research work, they are neither creative nor innovative. What then can these bunch of lazy people produce?! Theatre art is not meant for lazy people, script writing is meant for visionary people, directing and producing are work of genius but when you have the otherwise people doing it, then the product is nothing to write home about.

Celebrities / Omg!!!fuji Artiste Pasuma In Murder Mess by Jekanmo: 7:31pm On Nov 11, 2013
One of Nigeria’s most prominent Fuji musicians, Wasiu Alabi Odetola, popularly known as Pasuma Wonder is currently enmeshed in a murder mess.

From all indications, the Fuji veteran who recently celebrated 20 years on stage may be on his way into police net if matters are not well handled. Eye witnesses are saying that a member of the convoy of the Fuji star over-ran a teenage fan after Pasuma’s vehicle knocked down the victim on their way from a show at Idimu-Council area of Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The victim, Bidemi, a 12-year old fan of the ‘Orobokibo’ singer is said to have been lurking around to get a glimpse of the star as he was leaving the St. Augustine Events Hall, Isheri-Idimu where the show took place only to lose his life in the process. ‘Pasuma was trying to avoid the area boys as he was leaving and so he was driving fast and it happened that he knocked the boy down and the vehicle behind him ran over the boy’, an eye witness told NET correspondent.

Pasuma is said to have been driving in his newly acquired Range Rover Sports and did not bother to slow down to find out what had happened. ‘He sped off without caring’, another eye witness said.

But the singer’s minders insist he’s innocent and absolutely unaware of what happened after he left the event venue. Those close to Pasuma told NET he wasn’t initially aware of the situation and that the decease may have been hit by a random car coming behind the musician.

NET investigations reveal that ‘Paso’, as the singer is fondly called in the streets was trying to avoid the area boys who were >>>>

Politics / Lagos Restricts Danfo Drivers To 8 Hours Of Work? by Jekanmo: 5:44pm On Nov 11, 2013
The Lagos State Government says it would begin enforcement of a section of the road traffic law which restricts commuter bus drivers from driving for more than eight hours at a stretch daily.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa disclosed this at the weekend at a news conference heralding the National Council on Transportation conference which kicked off today and would end on Friday at the Lagos City Hall, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

According to Opeifa, section 44 of the Road Traffic Law bars commuter bus drivers from driving  for eight hours at a stretch, saying that government would begin enforcement of the new law in January 2014.
He said many commuter bus drivers did not know that such a pprovision exists in the traffic law, saying that the next phase is to register all commuter bus drivers, conductors and owners of such vehicles so that through the registration, the drivers could be monitored effectively to ensure compliance with the 8 hours work rule and other aspects of the traffic law.

Opeifa warned that by January next year, government would not have mercy on any bus driver who failed to register, as his vehicle would be impounded for breaching the traffic law.

“With the development, no driver would be allowed to drive beyond 8 hours at a stretch, while owners of the commercial vehicles would be made to get insurance that >>>> http://www.gistjoint.com/2013/11/breaking-news-govt-restricts-danfo.html?m=1

Celebrities / Dagrin Would Forever Be A Legend-rapper Olamide Reveals by Jekanmo: 7:37am On Nov 02, 2013
Artiste, Olamide Adedeji keeps pushing the boundaries in the Yoruba rap genre in the
Nigerian music industry using a style of delivery made popular by late music superstar, Da Grin.

In this Sun Newspapers interview, the talented rapper who is also a final year student of the Tai Solarin University speaks on his growing up, music, relationship with popular producer, I.D Cabasa, and rumoured affiliation with the Illuminati, believed to be a secret society.

Read excerpts from the interview below:

Could you tell us about yourself?

My name is Olamide Adedeji. I’m a native of Abeokuta, Ogun State. I was born and bred in Bariga, Lagos. I’m a student of Tai Solarin University where I’m studying Mass Communication. I’m from a family of seven.

How did you start out as rapper?

I discovered music was in me while growing up. In 2003 I started writing my own lines and performing at shows and the rest today is history.

What was growing up like?

Growing up was not that rosy neither was it that bad. Growing up in the ghetto was quite challenging because you’re looked down on by kids from upscale neighbourhoods. In the ghetto I was given ghetto orientation which is never to look down on myself no matter what.

Tell us about your love life?

I have nothing to say about that.

Late Dagrin seemed to have influenced you a great deal. What does he mean to you?

He’s more like the late Martin Luther King. I call him Barrack ‘O Grin. He is such a blessing to Nigeria. He really paved the way big time for up-and coming rappers like myself back in the day. It’s not like there has not been other people before him but his impact was awesome! Dagrin is a great artiste and I respect him; he is a legend.

Lately you have become so big. How are you filling the vacuum Dagrin left behind?

I don’t know. It is depend on people’s perspective. I just live my life the way I feel and besides, I’m not the only rapper in the industry. There are others like Lord of Ajasa. However I’m only doing my thing. Now people are comparing me to Dagrin and that feels great. I see it as a blessing from God. I can’t say I’m the best rapper; that would be ridiculous. It’s like saying Jay Z is the best rapper. However,  it’s not like Jay Z is better than B.I.G but people see the love they have for B.I.G in Jay Z. B.I.G died when he started making money and people were heartbroken. And Jay Z can never open his mouth and say ‘I’m better than B.I.G.’ The same thing applies to me too. I can’t say I’m better than Dagrin.

How do you get inspiration for your music?

I discovered a long time ago that rap music is all around me so I draw a lot of inspiration from my environment. I just feel comfortable being a rapper as opposed to singing. Seeing rap icons like Dagrin and the love he had for the art just overwhelms me.

Celebrities / Must Read!!! How Popstar Rihanna Was Asked To Leave Saudi (abu Dhabi) Place Of W by Jekanmo: 1:43pm On Oct 21, 2013
Popstar Rihanna was asked to leave an Abu Dhabi mosque because she did not have permission for a photoshoot.
Staff at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque say they asked the singer to leave the compound after her actions were considered to be at odds with the 'sanctity' of the site.

Photos posted on her Instagram account at the weekend show the 25-year-old posing on white marble wearing a head-to-toe hooded black jumpsuit

'Here, the Centre refers to a recent incident, involving a singer who came for a private visit to the mosque, at a gate that is not reserved for visitors, without prior coordination with the Centre's management and without identifying herself,' it said reported The National.

It said the singer 'left without entering the mosque, after being asked to do so, due to the fact that she had taken some pictures that do not conform with the conditions and regulations put in place by the Centre's management to regulate visits in a way that takes the status and sanctity of the mosque into consideration.'

Her followers on Twitter had a mixed opinion of the photos which have since appeared on websites across the world.

'Rihanna may look gorgeous and all but she's covering her head out of fashion not out of respect for the mosque,' wrote one user.

Sports / OMG!!! Cristiano Ronaldo Shows Off His Jewel Encrusted Watch... Worth £100,000 by Jekanmo: 4:00pm On Sep 28, 2013
Image is everything for football's 'King of Bling' Cristiano Ronaldo who has been spotted about town flashing a jewel encrusted timepiece that would likely put a dent into even in his substantial wallet.

The watch is a Jacob and Company limited edition H24 with a total diamond weight of 15.25 cts and an retail price of nearly £100,000.

However, despite being able to afford the ostentatious accessory following the renewal of his Real Madrid contract earning him around £288,000 per week, the world's most image conscious player is unlikely to have paid the full price - since he is the new face of the luxury watchmakers.

The Portuguese was seen leaving a Madrid restaurant wearing a watch that costs more than most cars before stepping into his Lamborghini Aventador - a car worth more than most houses

Music/Radio / Young, Rich Rulers Of Nigeria Music Industry by Jekanmo: 3:53pm On Sep 28, 2013
A new generation of artistes are rocking the entertainment scene and smiling to the bank, JAYNE AUGOYE reports

A wind of change is currently blowing across the music industry in Nigeria. A new order championed by young, vibrant and talented artistes has emerged. Rather than curse the day that their children decided to embrace a career in music instead of education, the parents of these wave-making artistes are pleased with the success they have achieved.

Today, the young artistes are giving the older and established stars a run for their money. These new-wave superstars now rub shoulders with the same artistes whom they once looked up to or chose as role models.

Apart from competing with the ‘old guards’ in terms of income and expenditure, they are often nominated for major music awards in similar categories.

Multinationals and telecommunications outfits, as well as other major events sponsors, have realised that the younger generation of music artistes represent the future of entertainment in Nigeria. With a good number of them aged between 20 and 25 years and a few others barely clocking 30, the sky seems to be the limit.

Many of the emerging stars are not just rich; they flaunt their wealth at every given opportunity. It seems that the rewards for their modest efforts at making many Nigerians happy are without limit and they always come in the form of luxury mansions, sold-out concerts, huge fan base, state-of-the-art cars, bestselling albums, multi-million naira endorsement deals, chattered flights, big budget videos, custom-made outfits, ‘bling bling’ and generous airplay on terrestrial TV stations.

Usually dressed in sagging pairs of trousers with expensive jewellery around their necks, many of them charge as much as N1.5m to mime to their songs for only 10 minutes at wedding parties or concerts. Many of them had to drop out of school to pursue a career in music.

We present to you six young music stars that have taken the music scene by storm.

Wizkid

At 23, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, a.k.a Wizkid, leads the pack. A string of endorsement deals, including one from MTN, has placed him on the list of big earning music artistes in Nigeria. At

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has finally confirmed he will sign a pre-transfer agreement to join arch rivals Bayern Munich in the January window and move to Bavaria when his contract expires at the end of the season.

After repeated speculation over the summer months that the 25-year-old Poland forward would move to Pep Guardiola's camp, Lewandowski has let his contract run down and will be allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement mid-season to commit to Allianz Arena for 2014.

For the first time since staunch denials about the move, and refusals by Dortmund's manager Jurgen Klopp to hand their most valued player to their Bundesliga nemesis, Lewandowski has said he will take his chance to join Munich on a free transfer.

In response to a direct question about whether he'll commit to Signal Iduna Park in January, Lewandowski told http://www.letdemknw..co.uk/2013/09/im-joining-bayern-munich-for-free.html?m=1
