Health / Best And Worst Sleeping Position by jenny2015(f): 10:29am On Sep 04, 2015
There are three main sleeping positions with variables of each: side, back, and stomach. Sleep specialists recommend sleeping on your side in order to rest more comfortably and decrease the likelihood of interrupted sleep. While there are many variations of sleeping on your side, all of which are beneficial in helping to alleviate insomnia and chronic sleep deprivation, the most comfortable position involves bending the knees slightly upwards towards the chest area. For those with a bad back, consider placing a pillow between your legs to alleviate pressure on your hips and lower back. Sleeping on your side is actually encouraged for those suffering from back or hip pain or pregnant women, since this position doesn’t increase pain in these areas.

Back position - Sleepers who lie on their backs with arms up near their head or the pillow account for 5% of participants. These people are good listeners, helpful, and are uncomfortable being the center of attention. People who sleep in starfish position are more likely to snore and to suffer from a poor night's sleep more often.

stomach position - Those people who lie on their bellies with arms under or wrapped around a pillow with head turned to the side, make up 7% of the population studied. Freefallers are brash, outgoing, and are very uncomfortable with criticism.

Soldier position- These sleepers lie on their backs with arms down and kept close to the body. This 8% study is said to be reserved, quiet, without fuss, and hold themselves and others to a high standard. Soldier sleepers have a higher likelihood for snoring due to the flat-back position, which may not cause them to wake up often but may result in a less restful night's sleep.

Log position - If you sleep on your side with both arms down, you are a social, easy-going person who is trusting, sometimes to the point of being gullible. The study showed 15% of people sleep like a log.

Fetus position - A whopping 41% of participants sleep in this curled-up manner. Women are twice as likely to rest like this and it is listed as the most common position. These sleepers are said to have a tough exterior but are still sensitive and may appear to be shy but warm up quickly.

Politics / Father Throws Himself, His Wife And Baby Onto Rail Tracks To Avoid refugee camp by jenny2015(f): 9:45am On Sep 04, 2015
A migrant couple threw themselves and their baby onto train tracks in Hungary, a protest after cops halted a refugee train on its way west
A desperate refugee family have been photographed being dragged off an Austria-bound train by Hungarian authorities who wanted to take them away to a migrant holding camp.

Having finally been allowed to leave Budapest on board trains bound for western Europe after a tense two day stand off with police, hundreds of refugees now face further frustration and delays after their train was halted in the nearby town of Bicske and all those on board ordered off.

Hungarian police officers wearing protective helmets and carrying truncheons demanded the refugees make their way to a migrant holding centre in the town - leading to clashes with those desperate to start a new life in western Europe.

This desperate migrant family were forced off a train by police in Hungary, as authorities tried to take them to a holding camp

In one particularly harrowing sequence of images a father overcome with emotion tries desperately to protect his wife and child from being taken away - lying down on the tracks in protest before officers dragged them away for their own safety.

Politics / Bodies Of 10 Ugandan Soldiers Killed In Terror Attack Arrives Uganda In A Plane by jenny2015(f): 2:57pm On Sep 03, 2015
Ministry of Defense has described as heroes Ugandan peacekeepers who were killed during a terrorist attack in Somalia on Christmas Day.

The bodies of the slain officers of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) were due to arrive home at 4pm on Saturday evening.

“Our gallant fighters that now regrettably lie before us in silence were part of a very strong team that heroically denied the al-Shabaab access to their intended final target, of gaining access to critical infrastructure at the base,” Maj Gen David Muhoozi, the UPDF Land Forces Commander, remarked.

The army said five militants were eliminated “on the spot as three were captured alive”. “Unfortunately three of our comrades, including a Lieutenant Colonel, lost their lives in the process,” Maj Gen Muhoozi added.

A statement by the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) said three peacekeepers were killed when al-Shabaab militants infiltrated the Halane Africa Union base camp in Mogadishu at lunch time on Christmas Day.

Some of the terrorists were disguised in Somali National Army uniforms, the statement explained.

A distraught daughter of the Lieutenant Colonel killed in the attack posted on social media site facebook, stated how the family was inconsolable.

“Dear friends, it is unbelievably sad to communicate to you the death of my sweet dad Lt Col Dr Christopher Kaija. He died during the al-Shabaab attack on Somalia,” Ms Ruth Abesiga, who works with National Water and Sewerage Cooperation, posted.

Ms Abesiga later told Sunday Monitor: “I don’t know how other people perceive soldiers to be, well my dad was exceptional. He loved his job and treated his patients with lots of love and respect. For me I would say Dr Kaija was a hero in the sense that he did his best to serve his country diligently.”

Maj Gen Muhoozi, who was expected to represent the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala, in receiving the remains of the dead at Entebbe Airport, said: “There is no greater sacrifice than that of one’s own life for a just cause, like the fallen Amisom comrades made.”

The statement said “Amisom has regained control of the Halane base camp and restored normalcy. All African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN) personnel in the base camp are safe and secure.”

The Special Representative of the AU Commission Chairperson for Somalia and head of Amisom, Mr Maman S. Sidikou applauded “the quick response and bravery of the troops in quelling this reprehensible attack.”

Ambassador Sidikou emphasised that, “the goal to rid Somalia of terrorists will continue to be pursued relentlessly.”

Meanwhile, the United Nations has condemned the attack on Amisom and sent condolences to the families of the bereaved.
