First things first, how much did you buy the Toyota WS you used?

There are a lot of fake or China of that WS.

The original one sells for around 90k per 4 liters can. So you'd need 190k to buy two cans.

So if the one you bought cost lower than 90k per can, it's likely fake or China. And could babe contributed to your problems too.

The way you guage the transmission oil level in that car is different. You'll need to get the car to operating temperature, then remove the drain plug.
Wow. Mostly likely the fake one. The guy told me he uses two types, the one of 70k and 45k that both works perfectly and I opted for the one of 45k. Total 90k for two cans

That is AI response. Feed your car worries to chatgpt and it will vomit all these for you.
There is a difference in getting AI answers and actually solving the issue.
Lmao.

Good evening sir.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. From everything you’ve described about your 2013 Toyota Camry, this is not a small issue — and it is not something that should be ignored, especially if you plan to resell the vehicle.

Let’s break this down professionally.

🔎 Professional Diagnostic Insight

1️⃣ Initial “Kick” When Moving From Brake to Acceleration

That symptom already suggested:
• Transmission fluid degradation
• Internal wear beginning
• Or mounting problem

Burnt-smelling oil confirms the transmission has experienced heat stress.

2️⃣ Wrong Fluid (Ibeto Oil) Issue

Your Camry 2013 uses Toyota WS (World Standard) fluid.

That transmission is fluid-sensitive.

Using thicker or non-spec oil can:
• Affect hydraulic pressure
• Disturb shift timing
• Cause delayed engagement
• Stress internal clutches

Even though it was drained quickly, damage can still occur depending on how long it was driven.

3️⃣ “Wire Tapping Reset” Around Battery

That method is a crude manual reset.

Proper recalibration should be done with a diagnostic scanner, not just wire tapping.

It may temporarily clear adaptive memory, but it does NOT fix mechanical or hydraulic faults.

4️⃣ Engine Lifting / Shaking When Engaging D or R

This is very important.

If the engine visibly lifts when you engage gear, the most common causes are:
• Weak or broken engine mounts
• Weak transmission mount
• Excess drivetrain vibration from transmission shock

The mount issue is very likely here.

However…

Delayed reverse + heavy vibration together could also mean:
• Internal clutch pack wear
• Valve body pressure issue
• Torque converter stress

⚠️ The Delayed Reverse Is the Red Flag

Delayed engagement into reverse usually indicates:
• Low pressure build-up
• Internal seal wear
• Or early transmission failure

This is not something a reset can permanently solve.

📌 What Should Be Done Now

Before panic:
1. Proper undercar inspection of:
• Engine mounts
• Transmission mount
2. Scan with professional diagnostic tool to check:
• Shift adaptation values
• Solenoid response
• Transmission temperature history
3. Confirm no leak remains and fluid level is perfectly set at operating temperature.

🎯 Honest Professional Take

From experience with 2012–2014 Camry transmissions in Nigeria:

If it was badly maintained and fluid was already burnt before you bought it, the transmission may have been stressed long before the Ibeto oil incident.

The wrong oil only exposed what was already weak.

This does NOT automatically mean full gearbox replacement.

It could still be:
• Mount issue + minor internal wear

But the delayed reverse should be taken seriously.

🏢 Ryan Automotive Limited Recommendation

Do not sell the vehicle without properly diagnosing it.

If the next buyer discovers delayed reverse or vibration, it affects your credibility especially since you’re entering car sales.

Let a professional transmission technician:
• Inspect mounts
• Perform live diagnostic scan
• Confirm pressure behavior

That is the correct approach — not trial and error oil changes.

If you are within Lagos or can bring the vehicle down, Ryan Automotive Limited handles proper diagnostic scanning and structured transmission assessment.

Even if you’re coming from outside Lagos, we attend to vehicles from different areas — proper diagnosis saves you from guessing and unnecessary expense.

Let’s fix it correctly before making any decision.

Thank you for your time and detailed explanation but unfortunately, I’m in port harcourt. I don’t know if you guys have a branch here.

Meanwhile, I did a scan today and these are the codes shown
p0741– torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off

P2757– torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid control circuit performance or stuck off.

Both showing pending

Then it is time to find a technician with high quality scan tool to pull codes from the transmission. That will give a diagnosis of what to work with
Finally did a scan, the codes are;

p0741— torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off

P2757– torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid control circuit performance or stuck off.

Both are showing pending

Who adviced you to put in 8L of ATF grin the standard for ATF change is to measure what you removed and refill with same quantity. Since you are doing drain and refill, your replacement litres shouldn't have exceeded 4L nah. How you came about pouring 8L for drain and refill beats my imagination.
Everything was drained even from the converter too. The technician said it takes 8-10 litters

8 Liters is too much for the car, kindly confirm if the transmission fluid is much in the system
The whole oil was drained completely and also from the converter and from the research I made I read it can take up to 8-10 liters, if everything was drained.. the guy that fixed it seem like someone that is good. Several people where calling him for gear issues while I was there
Car TalkCould This Be Gear Issue In My Camry 2013? by Jerrfrac(op):
Good evening gurus and experience drivers nd mechanics in the house, I think my Camry 2013 is having a gear issue.. bought the car from a lady about 3 weeks ago, a scan was done on it which was fine apart from missing catalyst and engine was very sound and untouched . everything seems fine apart from the fact that it was badly maintained.. Did some body works( full oven baked) changed headlamp etc . A week later, I noticed a slight kick while driving.. like when I hold break and try to accelerate again, I notice a slight kick so I took it to the mechanic and he said seems the gear oil needed to be topped.

Went to another mechanic the next day for the oil topping and he drained the old oil claiming the oil was bad and smells burnt so changed it, but made a grave mistake due to ignorance by putting in ibeto oil. The following day the issue got worse and this time my engine was lifting up when I engage reverse or drive. Made research that night and realised the wrong oil was used instead of Toyota WS. Went back to the mechanic very mad at him and he claimed Toyota doesn’t select oil lol… had to call another mechanic that confirmed ibeto oil was the wrong oil since it’s too thick.

The next day I was directed to a gear technician that said the car needs a reset or calibration . He did it successfully by tapping two wires around the battery area and also drained the complete ibeto oil and put in 8 litters Ws oil.. the car worked perfectly after that but I noticed oil was leaking from the bottom plate two days later and I went back and they fixed it and car was working well again.

Now after driving the car for 3 days, the engine lifting up or shaking vigorously when I engage reverse or drive has started again. U can physically see the engine shaking heavily like the engine seating is not holding it up well when I open the bonnet. Also, when I went out today, it did some delayed reversing. Outside this, car drives smooth, doesn’t jerk but I hope this is not a serious issues.. I need advice like this.. I’m spending so much on it already.

The car is even for sale as I’m starting out in car sales.

Finally did a second scan since I didn’t snap the first one i did and the codes are;

p0741– torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off and,

P2757– torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid control circuit performance or stuck off.

Both are showing pending
