This is not the first time a party will have 70% of the governorship positions, PDP did it in2003 and 2007. So there is no need to be afraid of a one-party state. |

The FUGAZ banks maybe but all the rest will have to fight for their breakfast in the emerging economy in a few years time. Unfortunately, where we are is part of the problem. If other sectors were performing, no one will really reckon with banks. Nigeria as it is constituted right now is a rent-taking entity not yet a producing economy. However with the stride PBAT is making, things are going to change very soon. EDUECO: I repeat, banks like Zenith, Access,UBA,Stanbic, GTBANK,Fidelity,WEMA,Jaiz and First Bank will continue to declare profit every year from 2025 till 2075.
Banks make money every seconds from their physical office and online(this takes place 24 hours of the day).
Banking business is more lucrative than production of goods. |

Banking in Nigeria and all over the world is about to be disrupted megally. Look at what fintechs have done in the last 10 years. Don't be deceived o EDUECO: Any Nigerian bank that declare loss is a scam!
Banking is very lucrative in Nigeria and in 100 years time it will remain so.
Hoping is not part of my investment strategy. I only invest in stocks of succesful companies. |

There is the time value of money. How long did it take you to make 20m from 2.8? That will give you an idea of how long it will take you to gain back the money you have spent and the opportunity cost in terms of how much you would have otherwise made if you keep your portfolio. I hope this helps. Hamachi: Great investors, I need your candid opinion on this issue. Presently my net portfolio in stock is #20m from initial investment of #2.8m. I sold my charisma car on Nov '24.presently l footwagen around.l intended to sell part of my holding in stock to buy Toyota matrix worth of #5m. The issue now is should I hold on till Sept,25 because of the bull season or l should go ahead to buy the car. |

I agree. I don't think the national Assembly can really stop the sales of even if they want to because if they interfere too much, they risk having to contend with China and I don't think Nigeria will want to or can do that. SonofElElyonRet: Don't have shares in lafarge but unless there's a bill passed into law that prevents the acquisition from going ahead, mere resolutions by the national assembly can't stop it. Only a new law, or breach of old law or regulations or regulatory authority or higher executive authority can stop it. My thoughts |

Thank you @mega for sharing this but what is your take on the future prospects of the cement sector when the Chinese takeover. Will Dangote still be able to dominate that space? Will they not erode the value for investors over time and will Bua cement able to continue to grow it's revenue at the current rate? megawealth01: Let me drop a good comparison between the three (3) cement giants...
Company Overview
Dangote Cement is the largest cement producer in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. It is a subsidiary of the Dangote Group, founded by Aliko Dangote. With a focus on dominating the African market, it operates massive plants in Obajana, Ibese, and Gboko.
BUA Cement is a rapidly growing Nigerian cement company under the BUA Group, led by Abdul Samad Rabiu. Though younger than Dangote Cement, BUA has quickly grown through strategic plant expansion in Sokoto and Okpella.
Lafarge Africa, formerly Lafarge WAPCO, is backed by the Swiss-based Holcim Group. It has a long history in Nigeria and focuses heavily on sustainability and innovative cement solutions, with plants in Ewekoro, Sagamu, Ashaka, and Mfamosing.
Production and Market Reach
Dangote Cement has the highest installed production capacity in Nigeria, estimated at over 35 million metric tons annually. It also exports to more than 10 African countries and enjoys economies of scale.
BUA Cement has approximately 11 million metric tons of annual capacity, focusing mainly on the Nigerian market, though it is beginning to export.
Lafarge Africa has about 10.5 million metric tons of installed capacity. Its export capacity is relatively limited, and its focus is more on deepening local market penetration with eco-friendly cement products.
Financial Performance (2024)
Dangote Cement is by far the most profitable. In 2024, it generated over ₦2.2 trillion in revenue and over ₦390 billion in profit after tax. Its earnings per share (EPS) stood at around ₦22.27, and it paid a dividend of ₦30 per share.
BUA Cement earned around ₦460 billion in revenue and ₦88 billion in net profit. Its EPS was about ₦2.61, with a dividend payout of ₦2.00 per share. Despite its rapid growth, its dividend yield remains relatively modest due to its higher valuation.
Lafarge Africa earned approximately ₦405 billion in revenue and ₦51 billion in profit. EPS was around ₦3.17, and the company also declared a ₦2.00 dividend. It trades at a lower P/E ratio than BUA and Dangote, making it a potential value stock.
Stock Market Standing (as of July 2025)
Dangote Cement remains the most valuable publicly listed company in the cement sector with a market capitalization of over ₦6 trillion. Its share price hovers around ₦490.
BUA Cement’s market cap is about ₦2.3 trillion, with a share price around ₦132. It is seen as a growth stock with strong future potential.
Lafarge Africa is the smallest among the three in market value, standing at roughly ₦400 billion, with a share price in the ₦125 range.
Strategic Focus
Dangote Cement emphasizes dominance through scale, logistics efficiency, and regional exports. Its large integrated plants and wide distribution network give it significant leverage.
BUA Cement focuses on internal growth and efficiency. It has been aggressively expanding, commissioning new lines and power infrastructure to cut costs.
Lafarge Africa, under the global Holcim umbrella, emphasizes sustainability, waste recycling, and green cement technologies. Its Geocycle initiative is one of the most advanced waste-to-energy solutions in the industry.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Dangote Cement’s main strength is scale and profitability, but its large exposure to Nigeria and currency risks are concerns. BUA Cement’s strength lies in fast growth and strategic execution, though its high valuation may limit upside for investors in the short term. Lafarge Africa’s core strength is its alignment with global ESG trends and Holcim’s technical support, but its smaller scale and weaker recent margins are limitations.
My Thoughts
Dangote Cement is best suited for investors seeking stability, large dividends, and African regional exposure.
BUA Cement is ideal for those betting on long-term growth in Nigeria’s infrastructure and industrial sectors.
Lafarge Africa appeals to ESG-conscious investors and value seekers who want a more balanced, sustainable cement player. |

Makes plenty of sense, thank you. mikeapollo: Regular payment of dividend is very important in assessing stocks. Yes, it is true. But it is NOT the ONLY basis for assessing stocks. Other factors may cause stocks price to rise based on assessment of potential future prospects as determined by the market. Honey Well wasn't paying dividends in the last 3 years or so because they were having some challenges and undergoing restructuring. Their majority shareholder (Oba Otudeko) was having several issues in the industry. They also had a protracted court case with one of their creditor banks (I think it was Ecobank). During this period, the share price was undervalued as low as N3 for a very long time. But after it was acquired recently by FMN, investors saw huge potential for growth and profitability, partly explaining the huge jump from N3 to N27 in about three years. From N3 to N27 is 800% gain. For those who think about dividends ALONE, Honey Well would not have produced this kind of returns even it were paying dividends consistently in the last 3 years.
Bottom line: choose the strategy that fits your investment goals and identify the right stocks that can give you the required returns: regular dividends or capital gain in the shortest possible time. . |

Hello my Ogas,
Please help lend your perspective to this mystery. I noticed that Honeywell Flour mills have not paid dividend since (2021, please correct me if I am wrong) but the share price has appreciated almost by 100% YTD. What is driving the value? Considering that the ability to pay dividend is a sign of a healthy stock in this market.
Thank you. |

EDUECO: The reason you cannot sell is that the stock price is being manipulated, there are no real buyers for Geregu shares.
Geregu's stock price is not supposed to be more than N200. In fact Geregu is N60 stock when calculated from the shareholder's fund(that is the equity). Thank you. This explains a lot. I will need to figure out how to offload my holdings |

Christianity Etc › Let Him Who Chooses To Be Foolish Remain Foolish Still - Response To COVID-19 by jeshurun08(op): 10:53am On Nov 09, 2020 |
I have read all sorts of comments from people asking why God is silent on COVID-19, on behalf of God I offer the following common-sense response: God gave man the power over all that He created but instead of using that power responsibly, some irresponsible people decided to use that power to produce viruses that are harmful to others and since God knew where the stupidity will take them, He made available herbs to cure and prevent whatever disease that might come along, for example, ordinary Dogo Yaro can serve as a prophylactic against COVID-19 but instead of thanking God for His forethought and mercy, some are foolish enough to ask where is God? If the herbal solution is not your style, God has also put the following options on the table: Option 1: Prayer by yourself: A simple prayer of faith from a genuinely trusting heart will still get you healed. Option 2: If you lack faith (or you need help with your lifestyle ), you can approach any of God's true servants and through their prayers, you will receive healing. If you don't know of any, go to Winner's chapel! Option 3: If you are not comfortable with any of these three options (including the herbal option), then the same men that created the disease will soon come up with a vaccine. At least if you have to pay through your nose, you might appreciate My goodness someday. If you are still dissatisfied with any of the above options, and you are still waiting for God to show in the cloud over your house to prove that He is real and address COVID-19, please tell him when you meet Him on your judgment day. Peace out! PS: If anyone of you think I have no right to speak on God's behalf, read 2Corinthians 5: 14. |
