GOVERNORS Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo, Aliyu Babangida of Niger, Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Theodore

Orji of Abia and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State had an early lead in the gubernatorial election conducted on Tuesday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mr Abdulfatah Ahmed, gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State and Senator Ibikunle Amosun of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ogun State also recorded early lead in the election in their respective states.

KATSINA, Nigeria April 20 -- The police in northern Nigeria's Katsina state has arrested 107 suspects involved in the post-election violence that engulfed six local governments in the state, state commissioner of police Ibrahim Mohammed said on Wednesday.

He said a total of 15 churches were burnt down by the protesters and that properties mostly belonging to supporters of the ruling party as well as non indigenes were affected.
