This years' award is on poetry. So submission of published poetry works is on-going. It is hoped
that this prize would motivate the culture of writing as well as reading in Nigeria.

Submission Procedure:
Only one entry per contestant is permitted for entry. Six (6) copies of the entry may be submitted either by the author or the publisher. The reason for the six copies is for each judge in the panel of 5 judges to have one copy to him/herself.
The work to be submitted must bear either the current or previous three year's date. For example, published books competing for prizes in 2004 cannot bear copyright earlier than 2001. Therefore for 2004 competition the copyrights should be 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. So this years copyrights for this award should be 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.


How the works are Graded:
After submission the works are circulated among the 5 judges that make up the panel. Each judge would go through each work and and vote for or against it. The work with the highest number of vote would be the winner of the award. The works are simply graded based on excellence.

Prize for the award:
This prize for this award has being increasing consistently. The award prize was at $20,000 in 2006, in 2010 the prize was $50,000. Last year the prize was stepped up to $100,000 which is equivalent of 16 Million Naira.

Recent News:
According to Premium Times a total of 205 Nigerian authors in the country and Diaspora have submitted entries for the 2013 Nigeria Prize for Literature sponsored by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG.

Mr. Banjo, a former Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, said in his remarks that the award will be given to the best author to reward excellence and celebrate outstanding literary works.
He described the number of entries this year as impressive, although 214 authors submitted entries in 2012.
“Literature scholars should be exposed and that is what this award is all about; it is all about excellence. We are putting our writers in the limelight, they are worth celebrating,” he said.
Romanus Egudu, head of the judges, said that the parameters for selecting the winner will be excellent creativity.

Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Benin Zone, yesterday, expressed the resolve of members to stay at home for up to 10 years than call off the current strike action embarked upon by the union five weeks ago, if the Federal Government continues to shy away from the agreement it reached with the union in 2009.
President Goodluck Jonathan had Tuesday, approved the implementation of the recommendation of the government committee on repositioning of federal and state universities.
But the Benin Zone of ASUU described as a shame, government’s refusal to meet its end of the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, entered with ASUU in 2009, wherein government promised to release N100 billion immediately out of the N500billion it agreed to pay.
The Zonal Coordinator, Benin zone of ASUU, Dr. Ighalo Sunny, said yesterday, that part of the MOU signed in 2012 between the Federal Government and the union was that government will increase the yearly budgetary allocation to the educational sector to 26 per cent among others.

The catalan play maker which was assumed to be on sale to was announced today that there wont be a move to the english side as he remains in F.C Barcelona.
Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has declared that Manchester United target Cesc Fabregas is not for sale at any price.
The Red Devils have already had two bids for the Spain midfielder rejected by the Catalan club but are willing to up their offer to €41 million in order to bring him to Old Trafford.
Bartomeu insists, however, that the Liga champions are not interested in cashing in on Fabregas and will ignore any approaches made by the Premier League club.
"United's interest for Cesc Fabregas is obvious, he's a great player but it does not bother us," Bartomeu told reporters. "It does not matter what they offer us, we are not selling him."
He added: "If there was a higher offer, would we accept it? No. We're proud that a club like that wants one of our players."
New Barca coach Gerardo Martino, meanwhile, expressed his own desire to make the former Arsenal playmaker part of his plans for the coming season.

Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund would welcome back Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa should the Manchester United star wish to return to the Bundesliga.
“The door is always open for Shinji,” Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told German daily Bild.
“But at the moment, it’s not a subject up for discussion for us.”
Kagawa recently stirred the waters by telling Japanese television Foot Brain that, after an unsatisfactory first season at Old Trafford by his standards: “One day I will return to Dortmund, if they agree to it.
“There was too much going through my head, I haven’t been happy with my performances,” added the 24-year-old, who joined Dortmund in 2010 from J-League side Cerezo Osaka.
“I didn’t score as much as I wanted to and I was injured.
“Even though we were Premier League champions, I can’t feel that I achieved everything I wanted to. Personally, it wasn’t a good season for me.”

Before in Nigeria it used to be the 19(as in the case of Wizkid and Davido) year olds and those of older ages going into the music industry and performing wonders. But that cannot apply to this 6 year old who has done music with some notable musicians in Nigeria including Flavour and the likes. The pirate of the Caribbean's mad-man man Jack Sparrow confessed in a recent interview that he cant see with his left eye and with his right can only see few inches away from his face.
He also said that he relies basically on his prescriptions and eyeglasses to see and that has been a burden for him as he sees things in blurs.

Do you guys remember Dekunle Fuji of "lelelelele, mo like Jesu gan, mo nife Jesu gan..." that beautiful gospel fuji song. Well, in the search for greener pastures, the popular Nigerian gospel fuji musician, Dekunle Fuji is now a certified nurse in the US.
The former Storm Records artiste who several years ago was a toast in the gospel scene is now based in the US State of New Jersey where he went through a nursing course to become a qualified nurse, NET reports.
The former artiste had left Nigeria for a show in the US in 2011. Getting to the US, Dekunle began considering the thought of settling down in the States. In no time he quickly applied for a nursing course and finished with the course a few months ago.

The Ogun State Police Command, Sunday, said it has arrested one Dr. Babawale Joshua who owned Ajike Medical Centre at 11, Adeyemi Street, Saka, Sango Ota, for suspected ritual activities and disrespect to the corpse of a 13-month-old baby who died in his hospital, Saturday.
According the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, for the state, Mr Muyiwa Ogunjobi, the police discovered that the boy’s corpse was mutilated. He told Vanguard that the eyes, tongue, two lips, two ears, private part, nails and the left hand and veins were cut off at the hospital.

In his account of what happened, the child’s father, identified as Obinna Oleh, a 35-year-old auto spare part dealer at Ladipo market, from Umunze village in AnambraState, said: “On Friday the 7th of June, my child took ill, my wife joined me to rush him to the hospital.
