abubakarolatu: if i get the bank statement on the 8th for cas , which mean the bank statement transaction for cas will end by 8 of december and now i am applying for visa maybe on the 20th of december maybe that when my cas came out , if i use the bank statement for cas which stopped at 8th of december for my visa application on the 20th of december will this affect my visa application The best thing is any that makes you start your pof, just leave it until your visa comes out . Don't ever stop it e get why. Even if its 10 months |

lexybaba1234: You have a valid point boss.
There is no realistic ROI on a car on a short term, except bills. The only thing you can enjoy is the luxury and comfort especially if you have a family. So I won't say having a car or having a driving licence is a bad idea. But there is more to it.
Cars are relatively cheap in the UK especially if you can drive a manual car like me. The problem is insurance, Tax, MOT, Fine, parking space, Drivers license and peelers etc.
I was told but I didn't listen. I got my manual car in January this year. Paid insurance, Tax it and fix the MOT. I can't drive it with provisional license because. I can't use international drivers license because Its my 3rd year already in the UK. I didn't come as a student though. So no pressure.
Theory test passed, but the practical test is a challenge and expensive. Despite the fact that I have more than 10 years clean driving experience in Naija, I was humbled. I started paying 40£ per hour. I know some people will tell you I have relative that can teach, get the car first. They will tell you they have Thier own shift and work to do.
At the same time I have to work, it is from there I have to take care of myself and pay my bills and I will be paying another person. You can't drive alone with provisional license. I did strong head and I was blue lighted by the peelers. I was lucky and I didn't receive NIP. I stopped going out with the car. After 10 months, and I spend 2000 pounds for lesson and test booking, I finally passed my practical test and am good to drive. Then I ended up using the car and park it at work.
As for the Uber, you can't use ordinary licence to drive Uber, you need additional permit for private commercial vehicles. For delivery they are paying far below minimum wage. That's my own personal experience. Good luck and God bless everyone
The same, if you are not making money with that car and you are on a limited income then you got no business buying a car.
Driving the car to work and park it then drive home after work...is not what i meant by car making money for you. Thanks for this, but now how will one get a job that can make one stay aside health sector? And no acquired skill |

justwise: I will not encourage any foreign student on a limited resource to buy a car, get SIA licence yes but buying a car will cost you more. Road tax, insurance, petrol, parking cost will likely drain your limited income. Then about a dependent? |

OdogwuEkeke: Hello Nairalanders,
I hope everyone is doing well.
I've been surprised to see many people still considering the UK study route. While it's ultimately your decision, I want to share a few things that agents and universities might not tell you.
First, many UK universities are facing financial difficulties as international students reconsider the UK. For instance, the University of Derby is running a £40 million deficit and laying off over 200 staff. This instability can affect your experience.
Second, the stress here is different from what we're used to in Nigeria. You will work hard for every penny, and without serious discipline, saving will be a major challenge. The pressure is real—I've sadly lost two friends to stress-related issues here. If you do come, please make your health a priority.
Furthermore, immigration rules are constantly changing. There are talks of reducing the post-study work visa to 18 months. Ask yourself: Do you have enough transferable skills to secure a sponsored job in that tight window? Moving abroad is a marathon, not a sprint. The journey doesn't end with getting a visa or boarding the plane. How will you manage repayments when you're limited to 20 hours of work per week? The truth is, 20 hours is rarely enough, and it will be tough.
If you were my younger sibling, I would not advise you to come to the UK. I would instead suggest Europe, where you're almost certain to get a passport within five years. The only catch is learning a language—which is a valuable skill for your resume.
Enough of my rant. Here’s what I suggest:
Option A: Focus on Other Countries Consider countries like Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, or New Zealand. After five years of work, you can typically get a passport. You'll also have access to the entire Schengen area. It’s often cheaper than the UK, and the path to citizenship is more certain.
Option B: You Really Want to Be in the UK
While sourcing school fees, also save for a car. Get an international driver's license before you arrive, and obtain a full UK license as soon as you can. It is more valuable than your masters, e get why
Get an SIA license- it will help you find flexible, cash-in-hand security jobs.
Focus on in-demand sectors that offer sponsorship, such as HGV (truck) driving or healthcare. Don’t waste time on a degree that won’t help you survive.
Option C: You Just Want a UK Degree
Apply for scholarships that cover everything, including your flight. You can use your time in the UK to activate plans for Canada or any other place, then return to Nigeria after your Master's and prepare for the move.
Consider a Unicaf scholarship to earn a UK Master's from Nigeria. Travel only for graduation, and use that degree to apply for a PhD in a country that offers a clearer path to residency.
Think carefully and plan wisely. All the best. Good day, I really appreciate this your candid advice, pls * how long does it take to get the uk license? * when you say having/driving a car, do you mean like doing Uber or just car for driving in the UK? * what advice will you give for those with dependent on how to remain too? Thanks |

Thank you. 🙏🏽 But you people can shaa come with some funny stuff pls which one is transferring tuition balance again ?? God abeg!!! I think we should stop spreading this app thing so that it doesn't affect people later. If they ask and you want to say it on the platform, say it, dont make it look like its another mandatory thing for everyone coming before they will start enforcing by force . |

Fred2020: It’s already been well-discussed, but it’s worth repeating: plan carefully for what comes after your studies before choosing the UK as your destination.
The UK of today is not the UK of five years ago. Opportunities for new migrants have shifted dramatically.
Major headlines on key news outlets today are highlighting the sharp rise in international students seeking asylum as a way to overstay their visas, which has now become a major focus for the government.
Not worth it spending 15-20M to become an asylum seeker in the UK in my opinion. Are you in the UK? Or here in Nigeria? |

They are not interested in that printout, what they want to see is the actual money in your account. People can remove the money after printing out the statement. So will you open your app or something...? For them to see the actual amount like you are saying. People have traveled, presented their pof and show them you are saying they not intrested in the print out. |

My question:
Do they further request for your salary account bank statements to validate payslip transaction? You should provide Reference letters and employment letters, certificstes e.t.c ,do not add bank account if it's not the one you are using for your POF so it doesn't contradict with the one you used for pof |

Fred2020: There’s a lot of good in the UK — if you can find your feet in the labour market. Forget the stories people post about the UK being all about bills and struggle. Yes, the cost of living is real, but with a good job and some discipline, you can achieve a lot here.
People actually buy houses (yes, on mortgage) within just two years — there’s even a mortgage thread on Nairaland that proves this. If I decided to focus purely on saving, I could probably buy a decent house in Lagos with just a year or two’s savings from here.
What’s worth noting, though, is that the UK job market isn’t as buoyant as it was just a short while ago. Even more concerning is the government's clear agenda: a sharp reduction in net migration.
They’re not necessarily targeting student visas themselves — they understand and value the revenue international students bring into the economy. But the real strategy lies in what comes after the degree.
Instead of reducing student numbers, they’re making it significantly harder for students to stay and transition into work or residency. New policies are being designed to place serious hurdles in the path of those hoping to remain after their studies.
In essence: “Come, study, spend — but don’t expect to stay.”
Another thing to keep in mind is that it now costs at least twice as much — if not more — to move to the UK compared to just 3 or 4 years ago. But despite the higher cost associated with the move now, the chances of settling in successfully have dropped due to stricter immigration policies and the current economic and political climate.
In short: higher investment, lower certainty. That’s the reality for many trying to move now.
For example, this week. The government announces its intention to raise the minimum skilled worker pay from 38K to £41K. That additional 3K would be the reason some job opportunities would go off the table for migrants seeking job sponsorship. To put this in perspective, median pay in the UK is just about £31K. Such moves have real implications for migrants seeking sponsored jobs.
& more hurdles are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The bottom line is that there are still positives in the UK, but access to assessing them is now restricted. Nice one bro!! Please how will these laws affect dependent ( for those going from Mres and dependent)? |
