Religion / Enough Of The Gruesome And Unwarranted Killings Of Christians In Nigeria by JMStemple: 7:14pm On May 24, 2022
In a country which promotes constitutional democracy, where the fundamental human rights of each citizen is expected to be protected; where there is freedom of religion of individual choice; where every other existing or instituted laws are subordinate to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; where no religion or region is more important than the other. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on the 22nd day of May, 2022 spoke with one voice across the federation to condemn the recurrent killing of Christians in the northern part of Nigeria by some misled and misguided Islamic fanatics, who have continued to paint the Islamic religion in the country in a bad light.

We accept the position of some renowned Islamic scholars that Islam is a religion of peace, but we cannot reconcile this position with the continual killing of Christians in the north on account of their religious belief system. We cannot reconcile this position with the action and inaction of the government and the security apparatus in the country that appears to be helpless when Christians are gruesomely murdered on account of their religious belief and the perpetuators of such heinous and dastard acts are allowed to go scot-free. We cannot reconcile the position of the Sokoto State government to have charged only two out of the hundreds of the misguided Islamic fanatics who conspired and killed Miss Deborah Yakubu in cold blood for mere charge of attempted breakdown of the peace of the state, when they should actually be charged for conspiracy and murder.

Nigeria is a secular state hence no one religion is superior or more important than the others. The Christians in Nigeria are not second class citizens and will never accept such position. Christians and Moslems must be treated equally at all times, under any situation or circumstance. The unprovoked killing of Christians in Nigeria must be put to stop forthwith, or Christians will be forced to defend themselves whenever such unwarranted and unprovoked attacks repeat itself against their members.

The entirety of those who conspired and murdered Miss Debora Yakubu must be arrested and charged to court for conspiracy and murder, as the Christians in Nigeria will never rest until the soul of Miss Deborah Yakubu is appeased with justice. Christians in Nigeria will not go to sleep until the government ensures that justice is done against those who are behind the conspiracy and murder of Christians in the country. Christians in Nigeria have resolved to stand their ground against the blood sucking vampires that have continued to torment her members in the country. The Nigerian church is asking the government to live up to her duties and obligations of protecting the lives and properties of her citizens in the country, irrespective of the citizen’s religious inclination or belief system. This simple demand is not too much to ask from the government of the day.

The Christians in Nigeria are lovers of peace and are ready to peacefully co-exist with other citizens who profess other religions in the country, but we can no longer fold our hands and allow our members to be slaughtered like cows led to the abattoir. We can no longer pretend that all is well while our members are being killed on daily basis. We can no longer tolerate the recurrent oppression, suppression and intimidation meted on our members in this country because of their religious belief. In as much as we want peace, we cannot continue to guarantee such peace when our members are gruesomely murdered and killed while the government looks the other way and do nothing. Our peaceful nature must be reciprocated less when we are made to protect ourselves against these rampaging blood sucking vampires that have tormented and killed our members, we should not be blamed or held accountable for any action we decide to take to ensure the protection of the lives and properties of our members.

Shalom!
