Lamido Fires Back at Malami, Defends PDP Loyalty Amid Corruption Allegations

Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has reignited his long-standing feud with former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, while also addressing criticism of his continued stay in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and ongoing corruption charges.

Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa yesterday, Lamido recalled that Malami, during his tenure as Minister of Justice, initiated legal proceedings against him.

“When Abubakar Malami was Minister of Justice, he took me to court and accused me of being a thief. But today, it is clear that what he owns, I do not own. Do I have a hotel in Birnin Kudu or houses in Abuja?” Lamido asked.

The former governor also dismissed calls from critics urging him to leave the PDP, questioning what he described as selective scrutiny of political associations.

“Why is there concern because I have not left the PDP? Many PDP members maintain relationships with politicians in other parties, especially the APC, and nobody questions them,” he said.

Citing examples, Lamido referenced the political movements of former Kano State governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, and meetings involving President Bola Tinubu.

“If Shekarau visits Tinubu, it is not considered news. Party leaders and governors are doing the same. Yet, when it comes to me, it becomes an issue,” he added.

Despite reaffirming his membership of the PDP, Lamido hinted at the possibility of strategic alliances.

“I am still in the PDP, but if I see another party whose ideology aligns with mine, we can form an alliance and work together,” he stated.

Addressing the long-running corruption allegations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lamido expressed frustration with the case’s duration. “It has been 10 years, and I am still in court. This started during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan,” he said. Lamido further alleged that the case was politically motivated, claiming it was initiated to block his presidential ambition at the time. “Jonathan started this allegation because he heard I wanted to contest. It was to stop me,” he alleged. On internal divisions within the PDP, particularly regarding the influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Lamido maintained that his position is guided by principle rather than personal interest. “There is self-interest, and there is truth. I stand for the truth. The question is: where does the PDP stand legally and in the eyes of the electoral body? That is where I stand, as a PDP member,” he said.

PoliticsPresident Tinubu Appoints New PTDF Executive Secretary And Renews Tenure Of TCN by joelbooks(op): 11:13am On Apr 02
PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS NEW PTDF EXECUTIVE SECRETARY AND RENEWS TENURE OF TCN MD/CEO

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). He replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently resigned to participate in the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.

President Tinubu has also renewed Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz's appointment as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term.

Both appointments take immediate effect.

Professor Aliyu, the new PTDF helmsman, is a distinguished academic and seasoned administrator with extensive experience in research, education, and institutional leadership. His appointment underscores the President’s commitment to strengthening key institutions in the petroleum sector and advancing capacity development for Nigeria’s energy industry.

The President expects him to leverage his wealth of experience to reposition the PTDF for greater impact in human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for the oil and gas sector in line with national priorities.

President Tinubu renewed Engineer Abdulaziz's appointment following a comprehensive assessment of his performance and leadership of the nation’s transmission network.

Under his stewardship, TCN has recorded notable improvements in grid stability, transmission capacity expansion, and system modernisation, reinforcing its critical role in Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

Engr. Abdulaziz brings over three decades of experience in the power sector and has also strengthened regional electricity integration through his leadership in the West African Power Pool (WAPP).

President Tinubu urges both appointees to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and a strong sense of national service, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu Adjusts Schedule, Postpones Ogun Visit to First Travel to Plateau State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trip to Iperu, Ogun State, which was set for April 2 to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport.

The President will instead travel first to Jos, the capital of Plateau State, to commiserate with the government and people of the state over recent gun attacks that resulted in the loss of lives.

Following the visit to Plateau, the President is expected to proceed to Lagos to observe Good Friday.

On Saturday, April 4, President Tinubu will travel to Ogun State, where he is scheduled to commission the Gateway International Cargo Airport and inaugurate two commercial aircraft intended for the export and import of goods.

He will also inaugurate the new building of the Federal Operations Unit of the Nigerian Customs Service and its operational vehicles.

The President will then return to Lagos to continue the Easter break. During this period, he is expected to commission several infrastructure projects executed by the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. These include the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System Building, a Multi-Agency Complex named after the President, and a school complex.

Before returning to Abuja, President Tinubu is scheduled to visit Bayelsa State on April 10 to commission some completed projects by Governor Douye Diri.

The revised itinerary was announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy.

As a personal commitment, all my salaries since assuming office will be paid into this account as seed funding, irrespective of existing insurance and welfare schemes for members of our armed forces. I call on our Governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, my friends and all well-wishers to support this initiative. Details of the account will be made available in due course.

We must never forget those who stand in harm’s way for our peace, nor the sacrifices borne by their families.

This is not charity. It is duty.

CrimeMass Shooting At Austin Bar Leaves 2 Dead, 14 Injured by joelbooks(op): 11:15pm On Mar 01
Mass shooting at Austin bar leaves 2 dead, 14 injured

A shooting at a bar in Austin, Texas, on Sunday has left two people dead and 14 others injured.

The shooter, who has been identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, is also dead.

Investigators are looking into whether Diagne, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Senegal, was ideologically motivated and possibly triggered by the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said the shooter was in a vehicle that drove multiple times around the block on Austin’s popular Sixth Street before turning flashers on, rolling down a window and shooting at patrons on the patio of Buford’s Bar.

Of those hospitalized, three remain in critical condition, according to the chief of Travis County Emergency Medical Services.

The FBI responded to the incident alongside the Austin Police Department and both are conducting a joint investigation.

“Obviously, it’s still way too early in the process to determine an exact motivation, but there were indicators that on the subject and in his vehicle that indicate potential nexus to terrorism,” Alex Doran, an FBI special agent with the bureau’s San Antonio field office, said at a Sunday press conference. “Again, it’s still too early to make a determination on that.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump has also been briefed on the shooting.

In a statement following the shooting, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said, “Texas mourns with the families and loved ones of those who were horrifically killed in last night’s attack in Austin.”
