The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied social media reports claiming high food prices in orientation camps, labeling them as unfounded and mischievous fabrications. In a statement released by Eddy Megwa, NYSC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, on Saturday, the allegations were described as “laughable, absurd, and unfortunate.” Megwa condemned the circulating narrative, which suggested that a state coordinator encouraged corps members to leave the orientation camp due to food shortages. “The story is nothing but a tissue of lies, intended to cause mischief,” stated Megwa. NYSC management insisted that such a claim is baseless, particularly considering the experience and rank of the state coordinators involved, who are seasoned officials, many with over 25 years of dedicated service. Megwa outlined the operational framework of the orientation camps, emphasizing the system of checks and balances in place to ensure a smooth and well-regulated course of activities, including the feeding of corps members. “A Resident Officer from the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters is always present to oversee the adherence to policies and rules,” he explained. The Director-General of NYSC, Brig Gen Yushau Dogara Ahmed, was also mentioned as playing a hands-on role, visiting camps each season to personally attend to the welfare of the Corps Members. Megwa also touched on the regulation of camp markets, acknowledging that while they are shielded from exploitative practices, they are not immune to the broader economic challenges faced globally. He took a stern tone against those behind the spread of the false claims, accusing them of seeking to profit at the expense of the nation’s peace of mind. “Their actions inflict incalculable damage to our dear country and the psyche of our people,” he said. The NYSC Director urged those disseminating falsehoods to cease their harmful activities and reminded that the Scheme maintains an open-door policy, always ready to provide clarifications on its operations. In case there was any doubt - let's take it all away right now in one fell swoop. AI is definitely the buzzword of this year, even though it kind of, sort of also was the buzzword of last year. But there's an important distinction - last year it was the buzzword generally in tech. This year, it's on in the mobile space. Just ask Samsung. Or Apple, as it turns out. The next iPhone generation will come with a vastly improved Neural Engine - guess why. We dare you. Guess. Indeed, it's all about AI. Specifically, generative AI features coming to iOS 18, which should become official in June and launch in September alongside the iPhone 16 family. Speaking of which, those upcoming iPhones will apparently benefit from a Neural Engine with "significantly" more cores, according to a new report from Taiwan today. While this doesn't give us the exact number of cores, the mere fact that there will be more of them is in itself significant, since the iPhone Neural Engine has had the same number of cores (16) since the iPhone 12. Now it looks like we're going to be in for a huge leap, which is befitting this AI-ified year of course. A huge leap in AI features requires a huge leap in hardware to support those. Get this - there might even be a new version of Siri. Perhaps one that's finally smart.

"Throw in the towel if you can’t govern Nigeria anymore’, PDP Governors tell APC-led FG Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have advised the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu to graciously throw in the towel if it cannot mobilise Nigerians as well as all organs and tiers of government for sustainable solutions to the various problems plaguing the nation. The governors, under the aegis of the PDP Governors’ Forum, PDP-GF, specifically noted that the hardship and suffering being faced by Nigerians have no tribal, religious or party colouration, stressing that “a hungry man is an angry man”. The PDP-GF gave the advice in a statement at the weekend by its Director-General, Hon CID Maduabum in Abuja. The PDP Governors expressly pointed out that the buck ultimately stops at the President’s table as the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation, the Chief Salesman and leader of Nigeria. The PDP-GF, nonetheless, assured that as stakeholders in governance, it would continue to work collaboratively with the President in finding lasting solutions to “a very difficult situation created or exacerbated by the APC since 2015”. The PDP Governors frowned at the Minister of Information, APC Governors’ Forum and other officials of the APC-led Federal Government who criticised the the PDP-GF for their suggestions, advice and patriotic intervention on the way forward for the country in a communique issued at the end of their recent meeting in Abuja. The PDP Governors reminded the APC-led government of the pertinent need to be guided by the fact that it (the APC) sought power to solve the problems of Nigeria not to compound them or shift blame, or grandstand or use propaganda to obfuscate or confuse issues. The PDP-GF, in its statement at the weekend, categorically declared, “It must be noted that even though Nigeria is a Federation, there is indeed only one economy. “Hardship and suffering being faced by Nigerians have no tribal, religious or party colouration. A hungry man is an angry man. “While all tiers of government have a role to play, the APC led Federal Government has a disproportionate role to play in mobilising Nigerians and all organs and tiers of government for sustainable solutions. “If it can not do so or is unable to do so, it should graciously throw in the towel. “Attempts by the Honourable Minister of Information, APC Governors’ Forum and other officials of the Federal Government who criticised the PDP Governors’ Forum for their patriotic intervention should be guided by the fact that the APC sought power to solve the problems of Nigeria not to compound them or shift blame, or grandstand or use propaganda to obfuscate or confuse issues. “PDP governed States are comparatively the best in Nigeria in terms of developmental policies, programmes, and projects that benefit their States positively, regular payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities, and minimum wage to their workforce. “State governments that are delinquent on these issues are not of PDP extraction. It is false to say so. “Even the food crises are exacerbated by insecurity and high exchange rate issues, among others, which are largely federal subjects. “The PDP Governors as stakeholders in governance would continue to work collaboratively with Mr. President to find lasting solutions to a very difficult situation created or exacerbated by the APC since 2015. We believe in co-operative Federalism. “The buck ultimately stops at Mr. Presidents table as the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation, the Chief Salesman and leader of Nigeria. “We are not in doubt that he is trying his best. We only hope and pray that his best is good enough to take Nigeria out of the woods in the shortest possible time”, the PDP Governors emphatically said. It will be recalled that the PDP Governors held a meeting on 12th February, 2024, under the leadership of Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and on behalf of Member-Governors, issued a communiqu, which among other issues: *Patriotically advised the Federal Government to embark on initiatives involving both Federal and Sub-National Governments to tackle the security and economic challenges facing the nation. *Solemnly reiterated its earlier position for creation of State Police that avoids abuse and overreach by any tier of government. *Dutifully called on the Monetary and Fiscal Authorities of the Federation as the lead agents in a Federal structure to collaboratively find appropriate solutions. *In the question and answer session, the Chairman of the Forum, warned that if urgent steps are not taken, the Venezuela situation would be child’s play in Nigeria. *The above suggestions and advice were given as contributions by patriotic group of Governors as partakers in governance. *Consistent with the above advisory, we commend Mr. President for immediately attending the special meeting convened on 15th February 2024, where some of these issues were tabled for discussion between the Federal and State Governments. Signed by Hon CID Maduabum, DG PDP Governors’ Forum
