Health / Federal Govt Needs Over N2.44tn To Vaccinate 165 Million Nigerians by John4peace(m): 11:12am On Jan 07, 2021
–Nigeria require about N2.44tn to vaccinate people who will not have free vaccines
–Only Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Oxford and Novavax vaccines available globally
–Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine costs $19.5 per dose ($39 per two doses)

Nigeria require about N2.44tn for the vaccination of 164.8 million people, who will not have access to free vaccines the country is expecting from the international community.

Presently, coronavirus vaccines obtainable worldwide include those discovered by Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Oxford and Novavax.

The Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, at a press conference of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja on Tuesday, said 100,000 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine would be received by the country at the end of this month.

He also said Nigeria would secure free delivery of 42 million doses of vaccines, which would be a combination of all the available and approved vaccines currently in the market.

According to him, the 42 million doses of the vaccines will only cover 20 per cent of the country’s population, which the National Population Commission, recently put at 206 million.

Shuaib added that the NPHCDA, the PTF and the Federal Ministry of Health were working on financial requirements for procuring more vaccines.

He, however, said the country needed to cover only 70 per cent of its population with vaccination to battle the virus.

But based on his statement that the 42 million doses of vaccines, which Nigeria would get free of charge, would cover 20 per cent of Nigeria’s population, it means 41.2 million Nigerians would vaccinated against COVID-19, leaving 164.8 million others unprotected.

Although there are various vaccines, Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine costs $19.5 per dose ( $39 per two doses).

The United States’ Food and Drug Administration Agency had last month said Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is administered as a two-dose series, three weeks apart.

Based on the two-dose requirement for each of the 164.8 million Nigerians, it means the country will need $6.43bn or N2.44tn (using CBN official exchange rate of N379/$1) to procure the vaccine for them.

A professor of virologist, Oyewale Tomori, in an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday, gave the costs of other vaccines

He reveals that, Moderna vaccine is between $10 and $50, Johnson & Johnson, $10 and Oxford, $3 to $4 per dose.

He, however, advised the Federal Government to not procure vaccines that the country lacked the facility to store.

Tomori said procuring a vaccine that would be difficult to store in Nigeria would be like adding to the problem of the pandemic in the country.

Politics / #EndSARS: If Anybody Collects Money Drag The Person Out, says Aisha Yusufu by John4peace(m): 1:06pm On Oct 14, 2020
Sociopolitical activist Aisha Yesufu called on #EndSARS protesters throughout the country not to surrender or be unfocussed in their call for a restructuring of the Nigeria Police.

Recall that Nigerians have taken to the streets to protest extrajudicial killings and brutality by the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Following pressure from protesters the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, disbanded SARS and announced the formation of a new unit called Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.

He also ordered former operatives of the disbanded SARS to submit themselves for psychological and medical examination at the Force HQ.

Unsatisfied with the IGP’s actions so far Nigerians on social media began another advocacy using #EndSWAT as a replacement for #EndSARS which was the number one trend globally for more than 48 hours.

Nigerian youths vowed to continue with protests in Lagos and Abuja.

Causing further storm on social media were reports of some leaders of the #EndSARS campaign meeting with four state governors and billionaires to find a solution to the continued strike.

Those at the meeting were Dipo (OgbeniDipo), Aisha Yesufu, Pamilerin, Folarin Falana (Falz), Ayo Balogun (Wizkid), Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Governor Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu amongst others.

The convener of the #EndSARS movements, Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, faulted ‘known elements’ of hijacking protests nationwide.

“They never fought for you. They waited for the advocacy to mature and seek to sow discord just to take over the narrative for their hidden agenda. You know them. They care less if you live or die. Keep your eyes peeled. Focus on the Goal.

“Hustlers being controlled by the lust after money are playing games and throwing narratives around. Your rights to protest must never be commercialised for any agenda. Check the patterns and note the players while keeping your focus,” he wrote.

But reacting in a video uploaded on her Twitter handle, @AishaYesufu, on Wednesday morning, Aisha advised the protesters not to be distracted by the leadership tussle.

She said, “Dear Nigerian youths, you have the government when you want the government. You are doing amazing; you are doing something that we haven’t done.

“Please don’t get distracted over this issue of who is this, who is not what; eye on the ball —forget the distraction. There is nothing yet for you to go into fighting mode over. Focus on your message and the results that you want. That’s what is most important.

“Yes, we have seen the headlines from the government but have you seen the execution plan?

“Can the government bring an execution plan where we know A, B, C, D, this is what it will do from this time to this time, what will happen with time frame? That is what is most important.”

“A lot of people who are not being part of this protest as you will expect are trying to discredit it by talking about the protest being monetised. If anybody collects money for the protest, drag the person out, let those who didn’t collect money do their thing.

“If yours is monetised, another person isn’t monetised. I wonder why we want to drag things down. This is part of the things that had hurt the older generation and that is why we’ve remained divided and we have not had the country that works for all of us.

“Please don’t get distracted, focus on the issue. You are doing so great. You have woken up, you’ve found your voices and you have even given us also voices. #EndSARS now, #SARSMustEnd and we must have a great nation. Nothing else matters.”

Education / School Resumption: FG Issues Fresh Warning To State Governors, Proprietors by John4peace(m): 8:47am On Sep 15, 2020
FG issues fresh warning to state governors, proprietors over proposed full resumption of schools

In advance of the arrangements for the resumption of primary and secondary schools across the country, the federal government sent a fresh warning message to the state governments and the proprietors of private schools.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the federal government directed state governments to certify that adequate measures are put in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic before the full reopening of schools.

FG said it would not delay to shut any school reopened without adherence to guidelines and protocols provided by the national response.

This was revealed on Monday, September 14, in Abuja by the minister of state for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, during the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing.

He said that the state governments making move to reopen schools were in tune with the directive by the PTF that states and other stakeholders should prepare for the full reopening of schools.

Nwajiuba, however, said the universities need to get clearance from the National Universities Commission (NUC) before reopening.

The minister, who was reacting to a question about some state governments that have already announced the full reopening of primary and secondary schools effective from September 21, did not give a specific date for full nationwide resumption.

He noted that primary and secondary education was within the purview of the state governments and that the right thing must be done to safeguard the lives of the school children before reopening.

He said: “All primary schools up to post-primary schools have the participation of sub-national and at that level, they need to check and meet all the requirements before they open.

“But at the tertiary level, that guidance will also be done in collaboration with the National Universities Commission so that it will give clearance that we are satisfied with your performance with regard to the guideline.

“What we are doing is that we are reducing this whole gamut of the document into some measurable steps towards reopening. What that means is that the governing council of each institution will then review the guideline and benchmark it.

“You may have heard several states taking steps around reopening, they are all in order. This is what is expected from what the PTF said last week and following the guideline, everybody will now begin the processes of reopening.

“However, they must be guided because in every state we have quality assurance officers that are reporting to the federal ministry of education and we will not hesitate to shut down any place that is not in compliance with guidelines.”

Politics / AEDC Commences Implementation Of New Tariff Plan by John4peace(m): 12:41pm On Sep 01, 2020
AEDC says it has started implementing new SRT Plan across its franchise area from Sept. 1

Customers who enjoy less than 12 hours of supply will not be affected by the new tariff plan

More update would be made available to customers on the new tariff plan via multiple platforms

Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) begins implementation of new Service Reflective Tariff Plan (SRT).

The management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says it has started implementing new Service Reflective Tariff Plan (SRT) across its franchise area from Sept. 1.

Mr Oyebode Fadipe, AEDC’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, declared this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

Conferring to Fadipe, the SRT plan is a Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) mandated tariff structure, whereby an upward increment in tariffs will result in substantially longer hours of power supply.

He said that the tariff structure would also result in good quality voltage profile, swifter response to faults clearing and provision of prepaid meters.

The general manager stated that the service reflective tariff plan a groundbreaking structure intended to deliver on the need for an upward review of tariff with an attendant caveat of improved service in the power sector.

“The service reflective tariff plan signals a new approach to tariff design that is required to ensure equity and fairness in delivering quality service to customers.”

It also ensures that customers get good value for their money.

“The new tariff design proposes an upwardly adjusted tariff for customers who are not averse to paying more to enjoy longer hours of supply, standard voltage profile and faster fault clearance timelines.

“While we keep working at ensuring all classes of customers enjoy improved supply, customers who enjoy less than 12 hours of supply will not be affected by the new tariff plan.

“Hours of supply to this class of customers will also not be adversely affected by the implementation of the plan,’’ Fadipe said.

The GM encouraged customers to welcome this new tariff as the goal was to guarantee that customers enjoyed better-quality service and also to position the power sector for optimal performance going forward.

TV/Movies / Multichoice Hikes DSTV, GOTV Subscription Rates by John4peace(m): 10:29pm On Aug 31, 2020
Subscribers are to pay extra to view channels on DStv and GOtv networks, following a notice on Sunday by MultiChoice to regulate subscriptions with effect from tomorrow, September 1.

MultiChoice revealed the price change arrived at after careful deliberation of the market and a look over of its business operations.

In a report, its Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, said: “We have made efforts to contain any price adjustments on subscription prices. However, to ensure the sustainability of the business, we have to consider financial impacts, including inflation as well as increased content and operational costs.

“As such, we have reviewed the prices of some of our bouquets so that we can continue to survive as a business and bring quality entertainment to our customers.

“To arrive at the decision to adjust prices, we took into account many factors, including the impact on the customer, current inflation, content costs and efficiencies within the company.”

Ugbe declared the packages will continue to be accessible at fluctuating pricing points. Permitting subscribers flexibility in price and choice without compromising quality or variety.

“To this end, only the prices of some of the bouquets have been reviewed upwards while the lower bouquets have been left untouched,” he said.

Politics / Protest Rocks Minna Over Poor Power Supply by John4peace(m): 5:08pm On Aug 31, 2020
Youths of Kpakungu area of Minna, on Monday, August 31, blockaded one of the major roads in Minna, the Niger state capital to voice disapproval of incessant power supply to the state capital.

The annoyed youths sent away the Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ahmed Matane. Who urged them to open up the roads and stop the protest.

They challenged Governor Abubakar Sani Bello should show up to speak to them.

The youths professed tired of the epileptic power supply, saying the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) taking residents for granted.

The Kpakungu road is the only road that leads to the Southern parts of the country. One of the most used in the state. Moreover, Motorists particularly those traveling to the south, still trapped at the area.

Efforts of the State Government to bring the protest to an end failed. As the SSG quickly left amidst boos and chants.

One of the Councillors representing Minna South Ward, Aminu Ladan, told reporters zero response from the authorities, saying the protest was peaceful and responsible.

“As you can see, the SSG was driven away in anger and the message he brought could not be passed. My people are demanding for the presence of the Governor.

“As a political office holder, I understand that the SSG is a representative of the Governor but the people do not understand that. They are not convinced and they want the governor to come himself,” he said.

The youths promised to close the road for 24 hours until the Governor shows up.

Music/Radio / Music: Abraham Jiya – “your Will (wuwa We)” @ab_dot_j by John4peace(m): 6:37pm On Aug 05, 2016

#YourWill
What if i hadn’t been walking in God’s will all my life?
may be my life may never have changed for good?
or God could have used someone else to reachout gloriously?
But despite our unfaithfulness, God still remains faithful, our refuge and
our strength forever.
Our ultimate goal in life is to remain in the splendor of #YourWill oh Lord.
Father let your perfect will be done in our lives, families, career,
destinies, relationships, so we will not miss your call…
In Jesus Mighty name… Amen.
