Hi everyone, I need some advice from people who have lived in upstairs/downstairs apartments. I moved into an apartment about a year ago. There are only four flats in the compound, and I occupy one of the downstairs units. When I first moved in, the upstairs flat directly above me was empty because it was reserved for the landlord. It was later rented out, and ever since then, I've been hearing impact noises from upstairs. I can hear sweeping, chairs and furniture being dragged, and even small objects falling on the floor. The family upstairs isn't particularly noisy. They're just carrying out normal daily activities, but the sounds come through so clearly that they sometimes wake my baby up. Initially, I thought the POP ceiling was the problem, but I'm now wondering whether it's actually the decking or poor sound insulation between the floors. Has anyone experienced this before? Is it common, or is it just a sign that this particular building wasn't constructed with good decking? I'm considering moving when my rent expires, but I'd like to know if this is something I should expect in most downstairs apartments or if I was just unlucky with this building. Thank you. |
