For you to buy a GIC for your sister, she needs to have a bank account in Canada. You can transfer the funds to her account, and she can then buy the GIC from her own account.

But my question is — why is everyone suddenly crazy about getting a GIC when they’re not even in Canada?
What’s up with this new trend of everyone trying to get a GIC?

so I will go with option 2
Thank you. Opening an account and she buying was what we were thinking but from the responses here, that route may be more stressful.

Given option 2 is widely acceptable, we are leaning towards that now.

If your goal is Express Entry PoF, go with Option 2 (Gift Deed).
It’s straightforward, transparent, and widely accepted by IRCC — even between siblings in different countries. Just ensure the transfer happens early enough so the funds can sit in her account for a reasonable time (a few months ideally), showing stability.
This is very helpful and thanks for responding. Leaning more towards option 2 now. A follow up question, if we do a gift deed and buy Tbills with it, would that still work? That is, she would attach her statement of account and the tbill certificate.

what is a GIV?
My apologies, I meant GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificates)

Hello Forum. I hope we are well. I have a quick question please.

My sister recently entered into the pool and we are trying to plan ahead for proof of funds.

I am currently in Canada and she is in Nigeria and we are looking at two options for the PoF:

1. I buy a GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificates) in her name and she would attach the certificate to her application.
2. I do a gift deed to her and she would include a letter of explanation (LOE) as part of her question.

Our preferred option is option 1, however I am not sure if anyone has done this before and what was their experience. Are there any other things to consider with this option?

For option 2, would it create a problem if I were to gift her considering we are in different countries or that does not matter?

Please help. Appreciate all and any response. Thank you!

Hello Everyone. Many thanks for this thread and the help being offered to the community.

I need some advise please.

I recently received a passport request from IRCC. See my timeline below
Application Submitted - July 24, 2023
Biometrics - August 8, 2023
Passport Request - September 18, 2023.

I have sent my passport for stamping.

My dilemma is that classes started on September 5, 2023 and there was a deadline to enroll for classes by August 28, 2023. I was unable to enroll as I require a study permit to enroll. I emailed my school (Conestoga College) to defer my admission to January but I got word back today from the school saying that there is no intake for my selected program in January and the next intake is September 2024. September 2024 is too far so I am not entirely sure what to do next.

My thoughts are to proceed with travelling but I am worried that the resumption date will be flagged at the Border on issuing of the study permit.

Has anyone being in this situation before and what was the solution. Alternatively, any advise/insights are welcome.

Thank you!
Hello everyone. Please I need your help!

I got an email this morning informing me that my admission offer has been revoked due to late registration of classes.

I have already sent my passport to the embassy for visa stamping and there is no January intake for my preferred course.
Please can anyone help on what to do next. The options presented to me were to apply for another course with a January intake in the same school or to wait and apply for the next intake in September 2024. Is it advisable to change the program to another program and let IRCC know on the portal?

Please suggestions and advise are welcome.

Thank you in advance.

The longer you delay the worst it gets, I resumed on Monday, email the school and if they are ok even small, enter flight and be coming, this was my exact case and monday was my first day in school

Thank you for the quick response @otunbadan. Those were my initial thoughts. Please what did you tell the school when you emailed them. Also, did the Border agency ask you questions about your resumption date before issuing your work permit. Are you also at Conestoga College?

Thank you
