Education / Share Your JAMB Admission Posting Details For 2016 by johnisrael: 6:00pm On Jul 20, 2016 |
we can tell that many
candidates have been able to ascertain
their posting status while many are still
yet to see theirs.
There could be reasons for this which we can't tell yet.
The essence of this thread is for candidates who have seen
their postings to share their details; e.g the school you've
been posted, your UTME score, your course of choice and
the course you have been provisionally admitted to study.
This will help determine if there's a specific pattern or
criterion being used by JAMB in posting candidates to
schools and equally help solve the puzzle why some have
been posted and while others are yet to be posted. So Let the sharing begin. |
Education / JAMB Releases Guidelines For Varsity Admission by johnisrael: 4:52pm On Jul 05, 2016 |
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday announced its guidelines for admission process. Its announcement through its website followed a week long meeting with universities and other tertiary institutions in the country. According to the board, the modalities would be based on point system. The board, which explained how the admission process would work for JAMB candidates and direct-entry applicants, also stated that varsities would collect screening fees from candidates at the end of admission process. According to the board, the new method uses a point system, which is divided into other processes, that is easy to understand. “Before a candidate can be considered for screening, he/ she must have been given provisional admission by JAMB. The JAMB admission checker portal is going to be opened soon for this process, so praying is all you can do now,” the statement on JAMB’s website said. The second process, the board said, was the point system where admission would depend on the point tally of the candidate. It said: “JAMB’s provisional admission no longer makes much sense this year, your points tally will decide your faith. “The points are evenly spread out between your O’level and JAMB results to provide a level playing field for all. “In the first case, any candidate who submits only one result which contains his/ her relevant subjects already has 10 points, the exam could be NECO, WAEC, GCE etc, but any candidate who has two sittings only gets two points. So, this means that aspirants with only one result are at an advantage but only just.” The board explained that the next point grades fell into the O’level grades where each grade has it’s equivalent point; A6 marks, B4 marks, C3 marks. So, the better the candidate’s grades, the better his/her chances of securing admission this year. The next point is the UTME scores where each score range has its equivalent point which can be summarised thus: 180 – 200 (or 20 – 23 marks); 200 – 250 (or 24 – 33 points); 251 – 300 (or 34 – 43); 300 – 400 (or 44 – 60 points). Giving a breakdown, JAMB explained that each categories contains five JAMB results per point added. For instance, a candidate with 180 – 185 gets 20 points, a candidate with 186 – 190 gets 21 points, adding that the point system for direct entry will be released soon. The board stated that fees would still be charged for screening which has replaced the Post UTME. “It then comes down to the fact that fees will still be charged for screening, it depends on the school as well,” the statement said. It also disclosed that catchment and ELDS will still be used! “Merit contains 45 per cent of the total candidates for a particular course, catchment contains 35 per cent and ELDS and staff lists contains the rest. “Cut off marks will be released by schools this year in the form of points and not marks. If a school declares it’s cut-off mark for Medicine as 90 points and JAMB grants a candidate with 250 a provisional admission but his/her total points falls short of the 90 points, then he/she will lose the admission. So, the provisional admission is just a means to an end, not the end in itself,” the statement added. Src= naijaconnect.ga/forum2_theme_112864181.xhtml?tema=3 For more jamb news update.

Politics / Buhari Hailed For Empowerment Of Returning Idps by johnisrael: 2:14pm On Jul 03, 2016 |
President Muhammadu
Buhari has been hailed for
his commitment towards the
empowerment of returning
Internally Displaced Persons
(IDPs) in the northeast part of
the country. The Peace Reconciliation and Rehabililation Initiative (PRRI), a non-government which has been at the forefront of championing the rehabilitation of returning IDPs through farming in the northeast, said the commendation for President Buhari came on the heels of the recent distribution of seedlings to returning IDPs by the federal government. It will be recalled that the PRRI has recently empowered over 2,000 farmers in Borno, Yobe and Gombe States with seedlings, food and cash as part of its commitment to ensure that the returning IDPs can become self sufficient. According to Hon Sam Ode, Executive Secretary of PRRI, the decision of President Buhari to embrace what the Initiative has been championing is commendable, adding that persons that would be saddled with the responsibility of distributing the seedling must conduct themselves properly with transparency and fear of God. He said it is very obvious that President Muhammadu Buhari is desirous of rebuilding both the human capital and infrastructures in the north east of Nigeria and deserves the support of all stakeholders. He further hinted that his organization after visiting Yobe State, would be embarking on the second phase of its campaign to empower the youths and has made arrangements to train 150 youths from Borno State in certified and specialized skills acquisition programme ranging from modern welding, solar panel, painting, automobile and carpentry at the Don Bosco Technic (DBT), in far away Lebanon. According to him, the training is another way of disconnecting the youths from insurgents and extreme views in the society. He said the trainees will be in turn empowered to start some useful ventures that will add value to the society and never be available for criminal elements to exploit. Ode said: "At PRRI, we strongly believe that the fastest means of rehabilitating those who were once displaced by Boko Haram is empowering them to return to farming which was hitherto their major source of livelihood. "With the military clearing the insurgents from these areas and with normalcy beginning to be restored, therefore the smallest support given to the people in terms of seed money and farm equipments is expected to yield meaningful returns in the coming years while the Federal Government, State and other NGOs plan their strategies to assist the people in regaining what they have lost." src ="vanguard" 1 Like |
Politics / Herdsmen Attack: Enugu Catholic Bishop Blasts Security Agencies by johnisrael: 7:16am On Jul 03, 2016 |
The Catholic Bishop of Enugu
Diocese, Most Rev. Calistus
Onaga, on Saturday at the Holy
Ghost Cathedral, slammed
security agencies in the state,
for not doing enough to curb
the incessant menace of
herdsmen which has created
an ominous cloud of fear and
foreboding hanging thick over
the people in their own home
state. This was at a time the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who was at the Cathedral with other security chiefs to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order, yesterday, also renewed his earlier statement that the Nimbo massacre would not be allowed to repeat itself in any part of the state; while stressing that his administration had done much to contain the ugly incident. The assurance came as Catholic faithful in Enugu, Awgu and Nsukka Dioceses, held peaceful prayer processions over the activities of herdsmen in communities in the state, with a call on the government to put in place adequate security measures to check the trend. The governor, who joined in the prayer rally held at the Ghost Cathedral, Enugu, called on the faithful to remain law abiding, assuring that government was doing all it can to ensure peace and co- existence of people in the state. He said: “We have continued to take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the state. We are currently engaged in the process of reactivating the neighbourhood watch associations in every community in the state and in aid of which we have approved an initial seed sum of N100 million. “We also constituted a Judicial Panel of Inquiry to unravel the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident and also determine the best ways to prevent its recurrence. “At a meeting with the Fulani and Shuwa Arab communities in Enugu State, we collectively condemned such criminal acts as armed robbery, kidnapping, rape and destruction of farms that are associated with herdsmen and agreed to ban night grazing in Enugu State. We have also empowered Chairmen of Local Government Councils to hold security meetings in their respective areas. We also held a meeting with Traditional Rulers and Presidents General of town unions in the state, where we took far reaching decisions on how to prevent future clashes between herdsmen and their host communities. More importantly, we have enjoyed the support of Enugu people who have continued to believe in our leadership and in our ability to handle this matter satisfactorily” BISHOP ONAGA ANGRY Furious with obvious security lapses surrounding the Nimbo massacre, the Catholic Bishop, Callistus Onaga, said that the Church had been praying about the mounting challenges posed by the activities of the herdsmen, especially in rural communities in the state, stressing that the church was interested in peace. He stated that the most recent and widely reported incident at Nimbo, Uzo Uwani council in which several farmers and citizens were butchered to death in their homes was a culmination of a growing culture of impunity, arrogance and dare-devilry among the herdsmen, saying that some of them had become “increasingly lawless. “The result is that an ominous cloud of fear, foreboding and insecurity now hangs thick over our people in their own home state. So far, the response of the various security agencies to these attacks and needless provocations have not been enough to give the people a sense of being protected by them”, he said He called on the federal government to drop, without further delay, the grazing bill, stressing that it was capable of tearing apart the fragile unity of the country. “Nigerians are already suffering much on account of the economic hardships in the country at the moment. To add to this by abdicating its responsibility in the provision of security for the people would amount to insensitivity on the part of the government”, he said. Calling on the people to remain law abiding and continue to work for the harmonious co- existence of all Nigerians, Bishop Onaga urged local community leaders to refrain from entering into agreements with herdsmen or with any group of persons that would create room for tension and crisis.
