PoliticsWitness Disowns Exhibit At Ekiti Election Tribunal by johnkay1(op): 12:06pm On Oct 25, 2018
A witness to the petitioners at the Ekiti Election Tribunal, holding in Abuja, on Wednesday disowned an exhibit tendered and urged the tribunal not to use it.

The petitioners, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and its candidate in the Ekiti July 14 governorship election, Prof. Olusola Kolapo had approached the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the election.

The respondents in the suit are the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Kayode Fayemi and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The witness, Aborisade Abolarin, who served as a polling unit agent for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the July 14 election, stated this while being cross examined by the counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Chief Charles Uwensuyi-Edosomwan (SAN).

Asked if his signature was the one on the Form for Polling Unit 005, Ward 9, Moba Local Government Area of the state, the witness stated that it was not his signature.

“It is not my signature that is here (on the document). I disown this document,” said the witness listed as PW26.

Also a former councillor in Ikere LGA, Adeniyi Ibidunmoye, stated under cross examination that he was a polling agent for the petitioners during the election.

According to Ibidunmoye, who said he served as a councillor between 2008 and 2010, after counting of votes, PDP scored 219 votes as against the APC’s 115, adding that some ballot papers cast for PDP were voided.

He stated that an argument ensued following the voiding of his party’s votes, adding that he only signed the result sheet after the argument.

Asked why he has different signatures on his witness statement on oath and the one on the polling unit results sheet form, the witness informed that he had two different signatures which he uses.

Another witness, Adeyemi Idowu from Moba LGA, informed the tribunal under cross examination that, a total of 21 votes were voided at the Polling Unit 14 Ward 10 where he was a PDP agent.

Meanwhile, all the witnesses called by the petitioners complained in their written witness statements on oath of alleged deliberate voiding of valid votes meant for the petitioners during the election.

The tribunal chaired by Justice Suleiman Belgore, will continue the hearing of the petition today.

So, next election in Kogi state, because of party affiliation some paid people (foreigners who aren't here bearing the brunt with us) would want to support a certain governor to win in Kogi state(if he contests with their party's mandate)?

Well, anybody who wishes to do that would die mysteriously including all members of his/her family and would never reap the fruits of their labour in this life.

PoliticsLabour Begins Nationwide Strike Today by johnkay1(op): 1:05pm On Sep 27, 2018
Despite pressure from the federal government, the organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and United Labour Congress (ULC), yesterday insisted on commencing a nationwide strike to demand a quick implementation of a new minimum wage for workers in the country.

There is palpable fear in the land that baring any last minute change of plan, the industrial action may ground government and other business activities across the country. As at last night, motorists and other consumers of petroleum products across the country involved themselves in panic buying of the products for fear of the strike action by organised labour.

Fueling the apprehension, President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, told journalists at a press briefing yesterday that public offices, schools, banks and other places of work are expected to comply with the strike action, which is bound to shutdown the economy.

According to Wabba, it became obvious that the government did not intend to keep its promise of implementing a new minimum wage for workers. He pointed out that the industrial action became the last resort following federal government’s refusal to reconvene the meeting of the tripartite national minimum wage committee to enable it conclude its work.

He said, ” The action is in compliance with the decision of the various organs of the organised labour which endorsed the 14-day ultimatum served on the federal government by members of the Organised Labour who are members of the Tripartite Committee on the new National Minimum Wage.

“The Labour organs further mandated their leadership to take all necessary steps, including a warning strike in the first instance to compel the government to reconvene the meeting of the Committee in order to bring it to a logical conclusion.

In compliance with this mandate, all workers in the public and private sectors at all levels across the country have been directed to comply”. Noting that economic activities, both in the private and public sectors, will be grounded today, Wabba said, “Industrial unions, state councils, all worker organistions and our civil society allies have been directed to step up mobilization of their members.

“All public and private institutions, offices, banks, schools, public and private business premises including filling stations are to remain shut till further notice.

“All those who mean well for this country are to see to the success of this action. Further more, this action is to remain in force until further directives are given”.

The national minimum wage committee, which was inaugurated in November 2017, had commenced work in March 2018 with timelines to deliver on its mandate of arriving at a new national minimum wage between August and September 2018.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, had in February this year during the 40th anniversary celebration of the NLC, assured workers that they would have a new minimum wage in September.

The NLC president said the claims by state governors that they cannot pay salary is due to high level of corruption, excessive cost of governance, indulgence in obscene lifestyle, white elephant projects and not lack of funds.

He said, “Indeed, government ought to have commended workers and their unions for waiting patiently for two years before commencing negotiations for a new National Minimum Wage. We advise that our disposition should not be taken for granted.

Jobs/VacanciesFRSC Screens 300,000 Applicants For 4,000 Jobs by johnkay1(op): 7:10pm On Sep 24, 2018
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has begun recruitment and physical screening for about 324,000 applicants who applied for 4,000 jobs in the corps.

Corps Marshall Boboye Oyeyemi made the disclosure when he paid a visit to the two screening centres in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday.

The centres are the Sani Abacha Barracks, Asokoro and the National Stadium Abuja. The screening was for various cadres, including Officers, Marshal Inspectorates and Road Marshal Assistants.

Oyeyemi said “We are working with about 324, 000 applicants nationwide out of which we have about 105, 000 graduates.” He said those that would be recruited at the end of the exercise “won’t be more than 4,000. “ “Out of the 4,000 slots, 400 is for the officer cadre.

“Inspectorate has 1,000 and Road Marshal Assistants, 3,200 slots. “It will be a keenly contested exercise that is why they will go for aptitude test to be conducted by JAMB.

“Those being screened from today (Monday) to Tuesday are graduates and you can see their level of discipline. “The exercise started early today and tomorrow nationwide, it will be for the graduates, I believe with the planning put in place, everything is okay.

“After the aptitude test, they will go for interview then drug test; then the final screening with the corps marshal,” Oyeyemi said. He commended the smooth conduct of the exercise which he described as having being okay and was not hectic.

“There is orderliness. The exercise began since six o’clock in the morning. This shows the level of planning. “The officers conducting the exercise are going by directive of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

He has given directive that we must ensure the planning is much better than the previous exercises,” he said. Oyeyemi commended the Service Chiefs, Inspector-General of Police and Director-General, and Department of State Services for providing the security.

The corps marshal said there were some irregularities during the exercise, including some pregnant female applicants, over-aged applicants, those short in height and married persons. The age limit for the officers’ cadre is 30 while the height limit for females is 1.63m while that of the males is 1.68m.

One of the applicants, Mr Solomon Abubakar from Niger who said he had been looking for job since three years, expressed hope that he would to get the job after the screening.

Miss Ifeoma Benjamin, another applicant from Anambra said she had applied severally for Federal Government jobs without success but expressed joy that FRSC accorded her another opportunity to try her luck in securing government job. The exercise which started Monday is expected to end on Saturday, Sept. 29.

PoliticsClosure Of Lagos Bridge Another Traffic Menance. by johnkay1(op): 6:08pm On Aug 23, 2018
People in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, are gearing up for further traffic chaos as the state government plans the temporary closure of one of the city’s key routes.

The authorities have announced that the Third Mainland Bridge will shut for three days to carry out maintenance investigations.

The closure is due to start at midnight on Thursday and should end 72 hours later on Sunday night.

The 11.8km (7 miles) bridge is one of the main crossing points in Lagos city, which covers the mainland and a series of islands, is often blighted by traffic jams.

Major repairs are due to start at the end of the year or at the beginning of 2019, but it is not clear how long they will go on for.

The Third Mainland Bridge is the continent’s second longest bridge.

The local authorities have produced a map of alternative ways of getting round the city.http://www.ewatomi.com/2018/08/23/closure-of-lagos-bridge-another-traffic-menance/

SportsThe New Version Of N'golo Kante Has Been Unveiled By Sarri by johnkay1(op): 11:46pm On Aug 21, 2018
Chelsea midfielder has changed position under the new coach - Maurizio Sarri.

New role has been assigned to Kante under Maurizio Sarri.
Kante is now playing a new role for Chelsea under the magician coach Maurizio Sarri. This shift of position will definitely have both positive and negative impact on the team being widely acknowledged as the club engine room.
by John Komolafe

The last match statistics shown that he is much more attacking than before.
Sarri find it better seeing him aggressively pressing forward with the ball. Sarri said “He is playing like a centre right-midfielder and I am very happy for the performance of Kante”. It will help in improving Chelsea ball possession.
"It's a new manager, a new system. I play a little bit more forward. I try to find the striker, to be more offensive, to cause problems for the opponents. I need to adapt in this role and I will give my best in this position for the team and I hope we can keep doing good things for the future." Kante said.
But more shots and more chances created but fewer tackles and interceptions. That is the trade-off Sarri is accepting when shifting Kante's position. It should make Chelsea a better passing team and a more dynamic one. But it is a tweak that could also leave them exposed defensively.

Contrary to popular belief, Kante cannot be everywhere at once.

Ole ni e, that is one of the lacunas in Nigeria constitution. If you leave a political party you suppose step down in any position you've attained through the party. Why will party A vote you and you decamp to party B, then still hold the position you attained through party A.

Ekiti State is well known at home and abroad as the home of scholar. But despite this, she always suffer good leadership.

At the onset of fourth republic, Ekiti State was used to compensate a young man then by the name Adeniyi Adebayo for a job well done by his father during his Military Administration (can you imagine using my own state to compensate).

The following regime was also a compensation to Adedubu thug (Adedubu was know as political bugaboo in Oyo State) who happen to be from Ekiti State. Adedubu no doubt was PDP machinery in Oyo state (a figure like Tinubu in Lagos state politics today), He handed his boy to Obasanjo the then Nigeria president, and Obasanjo has no option than to enthrone him either by crook or hook means - though the thug later betrayed him but for the sake of secret between them Obasanjo cannot directly use iron hand on him.

To cut the long story short, the thug came back after some years to seize power again using the gullibility of one educated but political illiterate from South South.

Now he's about to leave office but he can't imagine ever letting Ekiti State out of his hook, he then device a plan to choose loyal, and controllable successor who he can manipulate at will. His idea was successful at the primary election because he backed it with action.

The challenger from other political party, which we would have all see as savior happen to be the deep blue sea who ruled for four years as the state governor with nothing to show for it. He narrowly escaped impeachment as minister because of his ineptitudes and pompousness.

Now, knowing that the state indirectly practise two parties system of government, She is left between the devil (the thug successor) and the deep blue sea (the callous minister)
