MY PACT WITH UMU IDEMILI By Ifeanyichukwu Ibezi Since my involvement in active politcs, over sixteen years ago, I have taken time to study a politician’s claim to public good. How well he remembers his campaign promises, if ever, after election? My findings show that quite a few remember. A lot more don’t. They renege once elected into office. The interest of the people is immediately relegated to the background. Quite often personal interests were made to look like public interest and pursued with mindless zeal. Fair enough, no one forgets. My decision to contest in the February 16, 2019, general election to represent the good people of Idemili North and South Federal Constituency is not without a reason. Long before the decision, I had observed that past representatives of my people in the National Assembly could not live up to the expectations of those who sent them. Basic needs of the constituency were and are still lacking. Things like women empowerment, skill acquisition program, scholarship scheme, erosion control and the like which the people waited for with bated breath are no where in sight. Not even the nagging erosion threat which has remained most severe in the constituency could receive any attention. It is more disturbing when it is realized that the current representative of the people is a prominent member of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Environment. I took my decision to contest not for personal interest and or glory, but to help address some of these nagging problems. And I have, even without being a member of the House, attracted a very huge constituency project to my people. I am only seeking the office formally to avail me of greater authority and opportunity to do more for the people. If I could attract a N1.2 billion street light project from the same National Assembly which is sited in virtually all the seventeen communities of the constituency, I don’t intend to do otherwise when elected. Recall that the street light came long before that of the state government’s which also in some cases came to the Constituency at my instance. Road projects were also attracted. The current road constructions going on in the constituency, especially the spur that takes traffic off the busy Eke-Agu market in Abatete were on this account. Being a witness to the harrowing experience of motorists during festive periods, I pleaded with the governor of my state Chief Willie Obiano to construct a spur that reduces traffic on the market and he graciously obliged me. This is without discounting efforts in other areas like empowering youths of the constituency through appointments in government, employment in the federal civil service, a scholarship grant to some indigent students among others I was brought up to appreciate that the people wield enormous powers. I was also made to realize that the interest of the people rather than that of a leader should suffice at all times. To that extent, I know not to shoot craps with the interest of the people whose mandate I hold in trust. I am more inclined to respect this interest. But more than that, I am convinced I have the ability to effectively use the instrumentality of the office, when elected, to advance the course of development in Idemili North and South which is currently at a low ebb. Though I have sought the office twice without success, but it is well to remember that I did not lose in both contests. In fact, in the 2015 election my victory at the polls was brazenly compromised by the reckless PDP-controlled federal government at the time. Votes were unabashedly manufactured for the current member representing the constituency in the National Assembly. Efforts to validate the stolen mandate in the tribunal were vitiated by the same subversive force. The electoral heist was so brazen that that act has since been referred to as “electoral genocide”. Sadly, the beneficiary of this “genocide” is yet to make his mark in effective representation of the people. He is perhaps one of those Adlai Ewing Stevenson, US lawyer and politician referred to when he averred that “patriotism is a not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime”. You cannot in one moment of frenzy, could avow patriotism and love for public good. The idea of promising the electorate what they want to hear without as much as making effort to fulfil them, apears the stock-in-trade of many a politician. But for this horde, politicians would be better regarded. It is not often debated, but most politicians’ words are not bankable. Anybody who trusts them does so at their own peril. Notwithstanding, there are still honest ones among them. It is for this reason that I suggest two things. One, a politician, aspiring to public office through popular votes, should be made to make a firm promise. By that I mean a written and not verbal committment. A written pact with the people whose mandate a politician holds in trust is very important in negotiating the gains thereof. The pact wil also serve as armour against breach. Ordinarily, it may seem to have no power, but it can help bring to justice a defaulting politician whose re-election may hang on the balance. In all my contests, I had pacts (written manifestos) with the people. In them, I carefully outlined what I intend to do in the first four years of my representation. The aim of the written document is twofold. One is to bring the people up to speed on what I hope to achieve for them. At any rate, the contents of the document were provided by them as their charter of demand. All what I did was to collate and put them in a document. Two, it also gives them the power to confront me once there is a breach. The implication of this power is that it can imperil a re-election effort if no satisfactory answer is given. I do not delude myself about the power of a written document and the force it can muster. It may be argued that performance rarely guarantees re-election, especially where official impunity is rife. But it is eqaully safe to say that such impunity can happen only where the people choose to be docile. Without sounding too arrogant, I can say that what happened in the last election which gave rise to the verbiage “electoral gnocide” is in the past. It has no chance of a repeat on the of February 16, 2016.

Am here to serve like no other, Ukachukwu tells constituents

From Chuks Collins, Awka Nov 23,2018 "The essence of leadership and representation is to provide solutions to challenges of the led and to chat a realistic service vision for their betterment. "Time has come therefore when the people must rise above sentiments to elect leaders with competence and genuine knack for touching lives positively." This was the view of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, an, industrialist, Estate Developer, philanthropist, Evangelist and the Anambra South Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in the coming 2019 general elections. Ukachukwu, a foremost philanthropist who rose to national political prominence via personal struggle, in a remark when he received constituents from various wards within the senatorial zone in his countryhome, assured that their welfare remain his main concern and reason for coming to contest. He pointed out that as a citizen of the area, he knows their challenges, pains and expectations hence would make the needed remarkable difference when elected. The senatorial candidate urged them to take the message of hope and bright future which he represents to every household, so that they all vote massively for him on Feb 16,2019. In what sounded like a sneak preview of his policy document-"My Covenant with Ndi Anambra South Senatorial zone", Ukachukwu, popularly called Wind of Glory(Ikukuoma) stated its no longer time to list out what candidates would do, but time to lay open whatever they have achieved or done to better the lot of constituents. He listed roads, hospitals, houses, scholarships, youth/women empowerment, employment and many other philanthropist projects and programs he did and has been doing for Nigerians in different parts of the country, especially within the Anambra South Senatorial zone. The document read in part, "....and so with the conviction that God Almighty has done His part by blessing me abundantly, I began my part by locating the needy in society and providing them succour as much as I could. "I have pulled down mud houses anywhere I see them around me and built houses for the poor, constructed roads, paid fees for those I had neither met nor known before. "It became a big burden for me to ensure that I touched as many lives as possible, so I founded the Prince CN Ukachukwu Outreach Ministry through which I have continued to spread the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, saving souls and touching more lives. "Being in the Senate will surely provide stronger, wider and greater platform and opportunity for me to serve the citizens. I therefore urge every voter in this senatorial zone to vote for me, to make a remarkable difference from the lethargic experience we have had all these years."

Reaction has continued to trill over the recent purported plans to impeach the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly. It would be recalled that recently, 20 members of the State House of Assembly engaged in a legislative move to impeach the Speaker, Rt Hon. Barr Rita Mmaduagwu. The impeachment plenary which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Barr Harford Oseke, was allegedly signed by 20 members out of the 22 members present during the plenary. Mr Ikem Uzoezie representing Aguata Constituency was unanimously elected as the new Speaker of the 30-member State Assembly. Reacting to the incident, a Public Affairs Analyst, Mr Akwaeke Francis Okoye stressed that the impeachment was in line with justice and democracy. Okoye, who is also an aspirant for Njikoka 1 Constituency, under Young Progressive Party, (YPP), noted that the impeachment was long overdue, as the embattled speaker, Mmaduagwu, has been accused of misappropriation and incompetence in handling the affairs of the legislature. According to him, "there has been discordant tones concerning the lackadaisical attitude of the former Speaker. The impeachment process was properly moved, seconded and unanimously endorsed. "But it is unfortunate that she is still parading herself as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly with nine members supporting her, which is against rule of law. "As a matter of fact, Hon Ikem Uzuezie still remains the substantive speaker which followed due process. I advise the former Speaker, Mmaduaguw to support the new Speaker for the seek of democracy." Okoye. He however condemned in strong terms, the interference from outside legislative house, which he (Okoye) described as democratic murder.

*Anambra South on the threshold of making history with Prince Ukachukwu.*

After the long dark night, comes a dawn full of joy and hope. *The foregoing simply foretells the fate that awaits Ndi Anambra South as they have decided to welcome a bright future with Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu aka (Ikukuoma).* *What we have witnessed in the past years in the name of representation at the National level is pitiable and leaves so much to be desired of representation but fortunately, our people are ready to heal and move from where we have fallen.* How do we explain to the poor farmer in Owerre-Ezukala and Ogboji or the Oil Palm producers at Nkpologwu or the inhabitants of the near-creeks of Enugwu-Umuonyia and Umuomaku, that they have had representatives all these years, who live and thrive on our common entitlements without recourse to their plight? *What happened to all the promises made to them during the campaign period and the lofty expectations they had when they stepped out in hope to cast their votes for these deceivers, only to be forsaken afterwards?* *Weep no more, my dear Ndi Anambra South, for God has heard our prayers and given us Prince Ukachukwu to right the wrongs of the past.!* *Ikukuoma is a tested and trusted hand and is known everywhere as a man with unusual affection and concern for the plight of the people!* *If he did it as an individual, he will do more with a Senatorial clout.!* *Let's rise and take over our zone by supporting Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, MFR for Senate 2019 for he will deliver.!* *Ndigbo kanyi oke nkeanyi!*

TRADITIONAL RULERS CALLED BUHARI TO WADE INTO INNOSON, GTB RIFT

By John Ndu Traditional Rulers under the aegis of Anambra South Senatorial Traditional Rulers Forum, have called on President Muhammad Buhari to intervene in the present rift between the Guarantee Trust Bank Plc and the Chairman of Innoson Group, Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma; which they said, has lingered through the courts over the period. In an address presented by the traditional rulers and signed by the Grand Patron of the forum, Igwe (Dr.) Kenneth Orizu III of Nnewi with thirty other traditional rulers, the monarchs reasoned that the intervention of Mr. President becomes very expedient so as not to allow "the little crisis degenerate into a bigger crisis that will be difficult and costly to resolve." The forum specifically condemned the involvement and roles of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the persecution of the renowned industrialist. "The Royal fathers of Anambra South Traditional Rulers Forum is calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to look critically into the roles and activities of the EFCC on the ongoing business dispute between the Guarantee Trust Bank PLC and Innoson Nigeria Ltd." It has become obvious that the EFCC is not following laid down procedures and judicial precedence in the prosecution of the alleged trumped up charge against our son, Chief Innocent Chukwuma and his company, Innoson Nigeria Ltd. "As leaders and elders of the land, knowing fully well the consequences and crisis the roles and activities of the EFCC may cause, we have decided to use this, as not to allow this little crisis degenerate into a bigger crisis that will be difficult and costly to resolve." While recalling several ordeals suffered by the Innoson boss in the hands of the anti graft agency; especially how he was bundled out of his house like a common criminal by EFCC that invaded his Enugu residence in the middle of the night of 19th December, 2017, the monarchs wandered why EFCC would persecute such a distinguished Nigerian, who did not only parade four national honours to his credit but also provides direct employment to over 7,000; and indirect jobs to about 15,000 Nigerians. "This, to us, is an insult," the forum posited. While calling on Buhari to direct the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, to call his officers to order; and to stop displaying elements of bias in the said dispute, the monarchs also called on the IGP and the Lagos State Police Commissioner, to "dutifully and responsibly" investigate the recent attack on Prof. McCarthy Mbadugha, Innoson's lawyer, by assassins believed to have been sponsored by Innoson's opponents; with a view to arresting the perpetrators and unravelling the reason behind such attack.

*Road to Senate clearer now for Prince Ukachukwu as PDP, APC, SDP, ADC, YPP loyalists, others, collapse structures in his support.*

The countryhome of the Standard Bearer of APGA in the upcoming Anambra South Senatorial Election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu yesterday played host to over 1000 major political players in Anambra South who came to express their solidarity with his candidacy. The individuals were members of the largest known Political Group in Anambra, the Ikukuoma Solidarity Movement, ISM, which has been in existence since 2002 and is famous for many election victories in Anambra State. Drawn 4 from each of the 119 wards in Anambra South Senatorial Zone, the ISM members who visited Ikukuoma led by Hon Dozie Akunne, are only the representatives of active members of various political parties including PDP, APC, SDP, ADC, YPP among others who have decided to put aside their interests and work for the success of the Ikukuoma journey. Also present at the meeting were some other stakeholders in the Zone. Among key speakers representing the 7 Local Government Areas in the zone at the meeting were Hon Chinedu Nsoedo- Nnewi North, Hon Norbert Ubanatu- Ekwusigo, Hon J.C Ekwos- Ihiala, Chief Linus Okeke- Orumba South, Hon Isaac Adibe and Jeremiah Nwafor- Orumba North, Sabastine Ekwe and Bede Onwuaha- Aguata and Dr Godson Awugosi- Nnewi South. Speaker after speaker, explained that they have decided to collapse their structures for Prince Ukachukwu because of an agelong beneficial relationship they had enjoyed with him and his character of nurturing such friendships. Also part of their considerations for the support of Prince Ukachukwu was his commitment towards touching the lives of Ndi Anambra South across many areas. According to them, APGA as a political party, has made the right choice by choosing him as its candidate in the upcoming election, adding that it is only Ikukuoma that has the capacity to win elections for the party in Anambra South. Responding, the APGA Candidate, Prince Ukachukwu expressed appreciation to his guests who he described as his old-time friends and allies for the outpour of solidarity and support, insisting that for him, friendship has no end. He recalled how the movement had started over 15 years ago and the political victories it has been instrumental to, commending the members for keeping faith with the vision to continue to push for the growth and development of not only the zone, but also the entire state. Ikukuoma maintained that he is mindful of the pact he had with the movement, to engender a paradigm shift from the old political order that improverishes the people more and enriches only the few elites and promised that if elected, he will surely deliver on all his promises to the people. In their separate remarks, the APGA Candidate for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Chief Iju Nwabunike who was also present at the gathering, harped on the need for members of the movement to remain united in love to ensure the success of the Ikukuoma senatorial ambition while the Nnewi South Constituency one Candidate of APGA, Chief Sonny Frederick Ozobialu acknowledged the disposition of the movement as a demonstration of genuine love and faithfulness in political relationship, which is rare in contemporary politics. As is customary with Ikukuoma, his guests were treated to a warm reception during which he moved round to interact on one-on-one basis with them, a character typical of a core grassroots person.

*IKUKUOMA MOVEMENT, ORDAINED BY GOD FOR THE EMANCIPATION OF NDI ANAMBRA SOUTH.*

I have many times, heard people acknowledge the abundance Anambra South Senatorial Zone enjoys in terms of God's blessings in human and material resources. However, what nobody seems to have felt is the translation of all these blessings into tangible efforts to the ultimate good of the people. As is the case with many concerned Ndi Anambra South, my findings have identified bad leadership and poor representation as a major factor driving this anomaly. To address this, our people, the electorate need to start learning to choose collective gains over personal interests by electing persons who they know have the capacity to deliver on promises made. *And this is where Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu MFR comes in...* *A man who has devoted his wealth and affluence towards impacting lives and driving the cause of humanity, Prince Ukachukwu presents the most reliable choice at this time, as Anambra South people seek redemption.* *As an individual, his wealth has been deployed to building infrastructure, sponsoring educational scholarships, empowering women and youths, preaching the gospel of Christ among many other humanitarian works and the hope is that, with a Senatorial clout, there will be no limits to what Ikukuoma can achieve for our people.* *It is however, not by accident that Prince Ukachukwu emerged the candidate of APGA for the Anambra South Senatorial Election scheduled for next year, after years of denial and suppression of the people's collective will.* *Therefore, now that we are here, let's make this moment count! Let us take this battle to the finish line by ensuring that we support Ikukuoma all the way to the Senate come 2019* Remember, no force can stop the movement of a determined people. *This is who we are, Ndi Anambra South and we will take back our zone from the hands of mediocrities.* *I support Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu for Senate, Anambra South.* *Ndigbo kanyi zobanu nkeanyi.*

RE:"POLICE OFFICERS THREATEN TO DOWN TOOLS OVER UNPAID ALLOWANCES"

The attention of the Anambra State Police Command has been drawn to online publications and in some National dailies that "some Police officers in the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police in Anambra State on Sunday threatened to down tools over non payment of their promotion allowances" The publications are not only false but also misleading and definitely a figment of the imagination of mischief makers who are bent on portraying the Command and it's leadership in bad light probably to achieve their selfish interest. For the avoidance of doubt, officers and men of the Command are not only loyal, disciplined and hardworking but also highly professionals who are guided by the ethics of the Force and therefore cannot indulge in this unwholesome act. The Command therefore implores the media practitioners to always refrain from misleading the public with falsehood, please. *THE IKUKUOMA MOVEMENT: A MOVEMENT FOR ALL LOVERS OF GOODWILL.

* *In this journey to salvage the ugly situation in which people of Anambra South Senatorial Zone have found themselves, there is no room for sitting on the fence.* This is because it a matter of to be or not to be, a matter of survival! *No sane society toys with its future and that's why Ndi Anambra South should brace and rally round the APGA Candidate for Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Ikukuoma Ndigbo, to bring about the desired turnaround in the representation of our people.* Make no mistake about this, posterity places the onus on us to take the right steps politically, legislatively, economically, socially and otherwise, that will guarantee sustainable advancement in our dear zone. *If we have failed in that light in the past, Now is the time to get things right.* *Now is the time to send Ikukuoma, a man who has been on a mission to transform the face of Anambra South and indeed the Igbo nation but whom the forces that have held us backward have delayed his emergence until now.* Therefore, let us rise to the occasion and unshackle our zone from their unpleasant grip. *Let us give vent to this laudable vision of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu for Anambra South Zone and Ndigbo, by voting him enmass to represent us at the Senate.* *There can be no better time than now.* *Ndigbo kanyi zobanu nkeanyi.*

By John Ndu An astute lawyer, Barr Ify Morah has officially declared her intention to join other aspirants in the race of National Assembly, come 2019 general elections. Mrs Morah who is vying for Oyi /Ayamelum Federal Constituency under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said has consolidated its structure to sweep every elective position. Morah stated this while briefing some PDP stakeholders at Awkuzu Civic Center, Oyi Local government Area, Anambra state. The top leading aspirant in PDP observed that her constituency had suffered infrastructural set up, due to poor representation. She regretted that indigent people, especially pregnant women lacked ultra modern hospital and maternity for delivery, saying some lost their children due to unavailability of proper medical attention. Mrs Morah who hailed from Ogbunike, Oyi local government Area, pointed that PDP would invest heavily to transform the state and her constituency, for better living conditions. According to her, "my people are suffering. We need to emancipate them from this slavery. No good road, no better social amenities and we have some people seated on the wheel of our progress." While expressing confidence to emerge victorious in the party primaries, she urged the party to ensure free and credible primaries, to give room for transparency. She however pledged her loyalty to PDP and enjoined delegates to vote according to their conscience, and shun any form of material inducement.
