Dear all,

I would like to ask for an update on the appointment date. Could you please let me know the current status at the embassy? I also have a few specific questions:

1. I am on an 18d residence permit. Does my wife need to present an A1 language certificate? (She plans to take the exam in February 2026, while my appointment date is May 22, 2024.).

2. Will document verification be required in my case? I heard that certain categories such as DAAD, 18d, and Blue Card holders may be exempted.

3. For a family of four (including myself), what size of apartment is required?

4. For the same family size, what is the required net or gross salary? I ask this because my employer is currently paying me 75% of my salary.

I would greatly appreciate your guidance on these questions. Thank you very much in advance.

hollameday:
I have taken time to monitor this trend and I have noticed that it take between 19 to 23 months to get an appointment from the day you book an appointment. (omo no be beans oh).

so what I have tried to do that might help us all is to list out the months and the possible month that you will get an appointment.

Whoever you are, I think you are very good in predicting. Currently they are in Nov. 2023 and your predictions seem to be correct. Any delay maybe due to over booking in certain month. I will like to connect with you. I am currently in Germany and I booked for my family May 22, 2023. johndamisa66@gmail.com.

Presently the embassy are on the people that book their appointment in July and august 2023 ( Noticed that from this trend)

August/September 2023 = June/July 2025

September/October 2023 = July/August 2025

October/November 2023 = August/ September 2025

November/ December 2023 = September/October 2025

December 2023/January 2024 = October 2025/ November 2025

January /February 2024 = November/ December 2025

with what I have also notices there might be few days delay but I think it will be close to this days. lets keep supporting each other and standing by each other.

This process is not easy and its not for the weak.

Hello everyone,

I received an Interview Letter (IL) in Germany, but my family is still in Nigeria. I had earlier applied for a family reunion visa and have been waiting for an appointment for 15 months. Hoping my employer could help, I transferred my case from Lagos to Germany. Now I have IL for myself but no visa appointment for my family.

I have tried every possible option:
• Requested embassy-to-embassy transfers to visa-free countries in Africa. Some ignored my request, others declined.
• Contacted the U.S. Embassy in Germany where I got IL. They said:
• They cannot advise me.
• If I want a transfer, I must first get approval from another embassy, and only then will Germany release the case.

I do not want to return my case to Lagos due to the unpredictable backlog. At this point, I see only two options:
1. Transfer back to Lagos (which I strongly want to avoid), or
2. Reschedule — but to when? Since I have no idea when the German Embassy in Nigeria will grant my family an appointment.

Getting a Schengen visa has also failed. Right now, I am running out of options and really need advice or assistance.

You can reach me privately at: johndamisa66@gmail.com

Thank you.

I had no idea that German family reunion visa is difficult for immediate family members. Do you have an ETA for your IL? You have the option of attending the interview alone, receive your immigrant visa and file I-824. Your dependents can complete their process in Lagos.
Did you confirm the maximum stay for the Schengen visa? You may want to confirm that to make sure you have the accurate information.
Hi. I got the IL this week. My family is still in Lagos. Can I contact you so you discuss more about my options? I am a bit confused now. My email: johndamisa66@gmail.com

If you file i824 (after you receive your green card);for your family they would be 'follow to join' which is NOT F2B. So their processsing would not follow f2b timelines. With i824 your family would ingerit your priority date.
Can I contact you privately for further discussion on this ? My email is johndamisa66@gmail.com thanks.

The appointment takes two years from what I have deduced so far which means I will expect them end of next year all things being equal. It’s just 3 weeks since NVC told me my case has been transferred so I am still waiting for IL.

I do not think it is a straightforward thing to file for I-824. I will have to get the green card first and then file for them to come as F2b(the waiting time there is also crazy) I think or I wait to become citizen after 5/6 years and file for immediate family.

Anyways thanks for your response.

Good morning everyone,

I recently transferred my case from Lagos to Frankfurt and I’m currently waiting for my Interview Letter (IL). However, for the past 14 months, I’ve been unable to secure a family reunion visa for my wife and children.

I also tried to explore getting a Schengen visa for them through another country, but I was told they would only get a maximum of 10 days. That’s not enough time to complete medicals and the rest of the process.

Should I get IL from Frankfurt, I will be faced with the me in Frankfurt and my family in Nigeria- how do I navigate this?

Please, I’m asking for advice. If anyone here is in a similar situation; living outside Nigeria (excluding the USA); and you successfully navigated this with your dependents back in Nigeria, I would really appreciate it if you could share your experience. Feel free to DM me or share it here, whichever is more convenient.

Like they say, “who ask questions no dey miss road.”

Thank you !.

Thanks for asking.

I have added the new drivative beneficiary (by requesting that via the Public Inquiry Form); I have paid the fee, filled the form, and sent civil documents for the new beneficiary.

I have today (7:08 am) received the type of letter that I received when I initially sent my civil documents in November 2023—stating that "The National Visa Center (NVC) received all of the fees, forms, and documents that are required prior to scheduling your immigrant visa interview at a U.S. Embassy overseas. NVC will work with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria to schedule an interview appointment for you. Once we have confirmed an interview date, we will send a notice to you, your petitioner, and attorney (if applicable).".

The letter contains the same details as the one received in November 2023, except for the date on which it was issued. So, I want to assume that the DQ date has changed. Though I am not so sure since only the priority date is specifically stated. The DQ date is not stated. I just assumed the DQ date is the date the letter was issued.

Please, guys, I still need information on how long derivative beneficiaries can be on "follow-to-join" and if I will be the one to inform NVC when they are ready for an interview, or if NVC will schedule them without asking me. I will be glad to know these. I have my beneficiaries moved to follow-to-join, for some personal reasons.

Please, those in different groups and platforms, don't forget to update us here as status changes.

Thanks.
Can you reach me on johndamisa66@gmail.com? Let’s discuss I too want the same thing but my lawyer said my dependent will have new DQ date after I have been given the visa. I can share more with you so we can discuss on a personal level.

You can transfer to Togo or Benin Republic. It's easier to get their resident permit .
Please can you shed more light on this? especially to have their residence permit and also won’t the visa office ask you what you are currently doing in the country to have their permit during interview?. Thanks

Pivoted to another space, fingers crossed to see how that turn out.

It's clear the lack of transparency and no effort of communication (even when contacted by lawyers and member of congress) on the part of the us consulate in Nigeria shows they are up to no good with regards to Eb interview scheduling.

There's so much excuse you can make before people see through the BS you are up to! wishing everyone goodluck with the wait though.
Is this specific for Lagos? Maybe one can transfer case file to other countries like Europe.

Diamonds911:
Hello house, I appreciate the great advice and opinions shared in this group. I hope people who are more experienced here could lend some helping hand here. I am a DIY principal applicant for an EB2 NIW and recently submitted my DS-260 online through the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) website after my I-140 has been approved. I have also paid the Immigrant Visa Application Processing Fees for myself and my accompanying family members.

As I understand, I am required to mail my civil documents to the National Visa Center (NVC). Since I cannot upload these documents online, I have a few questions:

Passport Photographs: Are passport photographs required to be included with the mailed documents?
Photograph Attachment: If yes, how should the passport photographs be attached to the application packet?
Document Stapling: Should I staple my photocopied documents (such as passport, birth certificate, etc.) separately for each family member, even though they will be placed in the same envelope?
I would greatly appreciate your guidance on these matters.
Thank you all.
If you take a closer look at your welcome letter, I bet you will see ALL the documents that you are required to send to NVC for you and your family members. Finally do not staple any documents. You can use the special stapler called “office pin” at least that is what I used. And follow the document chronologically as stated in the welcome letter you received. Cheers.

Your priority date is not current but it may be by April/July. If you a can afford I advise look through migrating to other countries with less backlog for a postdoc or research post still within your proposed endeavor & then change consulate. Right now you are looking at 2-3 years from Nigeria; whereas if you’re in London, for example, you could move this year.
I am looking at doing another Phd in Europe Germany or France. I have tried post-doc no show and my phd is already above 5 years. Thanks for response

Just asking and venting: Is this route still a viable option for anyone at this point? My date is 27 June 2023. With this snail-paced progress, when will it ever get to one’s turn? And even when it finally does, we still have the millipede-speed delays of the Lagos consulate to deal with. So I ask again, is this route truly viable anymore? So much money has been spent, and yet one is stuck. Age isn’t exactly on my side anymore. It’s frustrating and sad.

Hello,

Please can anyone send me link for the telegram group? my email: johndamisa66@gmail.com. Thanks.

Izanghi:
Please, I am in the US already, but my dependents are still in Nigeria. I want to ask the average months or years it takes for my dependents to do interview if my priority date is current. I already know I'll do I-485 and the timeline for approval is averagely 4 to 6 months but I don't know for my wife and children who will be doing it in Nigeria.
The only thing I can say here is that there are people in Nigeria still waiting for interview letter for up to 2 years now. Maybe you should consider taking your family to the USA. It is faster Lagos is very very slow.

Finally here, after seeing all pages.

Nice thread Mary! Hope yours turned out well.

Although 90% of contributions and applicants are based in Nigeria which was not originally intended, it has kept the discourse moving.

More accounts of F1 to EB2-NIW applications would be well appreciated as the procedure is quite different.

MS completed, PhD starts next year.
Research Assistant,
2conference appearances/presentations
2 conference papers
1 conference research poster,
2 professional body' memberships,
Volunteered for a top Agency in the US.

Do I apply before starting PhD or after I begin as a DIY applicant?
Can I send send you PM?
What was not originally intended please??

Thank you for your response. Did you do WES evaluation of your credentials for Equivalency? If yes, is it CxC or DxD?

I read on their website (Chen) that they'll write the letters of recommendation for you; did they actually keep to that promise? How many letters did you submit?
I use WES for my evaluation; I do not know what you mean by CxC or DxD. Chen will write the recommendation letter; recommendation letter number is dependent on how solid your case is; I suggest you contact them, let them confirm they will take your case and you can proceed to ask them ANY questions that you want. Cheers!

This 101days, does it include time taken to gather your documents or 101days after your case file was submitted?
I started the process March, submitted in June and got approval in October. My main challenge was getting recommenders which took 2 months.

For the amount; I paid 5000 USD and 700 USD for filling. This amount is what I paid. It maybe different or the same.

You can use Chen. They usually work best for people with articles and reasonable citations. I used Chen and got approval in 101 days without RFE. Remember, approval is case dependent.

Greetings,

I'd appreciate your insights on the following matter:

If someone has already received approval for their National Interest Waiver (NIW), would it be deemed inappropriate or classified as visa fraud if that individual pursues a Ph.D. in the USA and applies for a student visa? It's worth noting that, during the NIW petition, the person initially submitted a Ph.D. as part of his exhibit; but now wishes to pursue a Ph.D. in a related yet distinct field.

Him and his family will still undergo consular processing but he his afraid that going ahead with this plan may cause some complication. Please your sincere opinion/advise is needed.

Thanks

[quote author=chemashie post=126681367]1. In my opinion, it's essential to save enough to support yourself and your family for at least three months.
2. You'll need to obtain police clearance certificates for both France and Nigeria. However, getting police report for Germany will depend on whether you're visiting briefly or for a fellowship for more than 6 months. I spent two months at the University of Cambridge in the UK and didn't need to obtain a UK police certificate, even though I mentioned my visit in my DS260 application.
3. Yes, someone made the payment for me using his US account because a Routing number was required during the payment process.
4. My I-140 petition was approved on April 14, 2023, and I received my welcome letter on May 3, 2023. So, you can expect it to take approximately a month or less.
5. I'll reply to your email with my WhatsApp contact information.

Thanks. I will expect your email.
