I'm in Boston too.. leaving next week.

Birth certificate and SS should have been done at the hospital. Normally ready for collection at Boston City hall in 2weeks from date of application. SSN is sent out by mail within 3weeks.

For the US passport, you can apply once you get your consent form and birth certificate. Consent form is form DS-3053 printable from the US passport website. Hubby would take the unsigned form to the US embassy for notarization(make sure he fills your name as it is on your passport). He can book appointment on US embassy Nigeria website..you can Google 'notarization US embassy Nigeria'

He will need to send you the original copy to apply for US passport. DHL takes about 4days to arrive in Boston. My hubby paid 23k to send. You can book appointment to apply at Boston passport agency if your ticket date is within 2weeks or you need a visa within 4wks. Just tell them you fall in that category, they don't need to know about voa. Make sure you go with copy of your ticket. Check US passport website for detailed list of documents.

My LO's passport was ready in 2days.

As for medical bills..just prepare yourself. Boston is not cheap but if you look at the bill and it doesn't look right, don't be afraid to ask billing for review.

All the best!

Thank you so very much! smiley

good day all
we have been reading posts here and have now decided to join in order to pass some info and to ask a question. following advice gotten from here, and using the template found here too, i sent the embassy a letter saying we have changed plans and want to deliver in the US now after getting the visa, this is the reply we got.
before i post the reply let me ask the question, pls we plan to deliver in new york cos we have family there, could anybody furnish us with affordable advice ? hospitals within the range of MIHS and doctoresparati el paso grin cos am guessing even if its a bit more expensive in new york the convenience of staying with family versus staying alone in elpaso/maricopa. any advise and suggestions pls.
ehen so this is the reply we got from the embassy:

Thank you for your inquiry.

Please note that there is no legal requirement to inform us that your wife is seeking to give birth in the United States or that her purpose of travel has changed. The Customs and Border Protection, a branch of USCIS, determines a traveler’s eligibility of entry to the U.S, she should be prepared to demonstrate to the immigration officer at the port of entry why she is seeking medical treatment and that she has logistical and financial plans for the treatment.

We recommend that you review the regulations on non-immigrant aliens entering the United States for purposes of childbirth at https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/882/~/visit-the-u.s.-while-pregnant-and-the-risks-involved and plan accordingly. Please she should not stay in the U.S. longer than she is permitted by Customs and Border Protection at the port of entry. The Department of Homeland Security at the port of entry will determine her eligibility to enter the United States on any travel.

If she choose to give birth in the U.S., we advise her to bring evidence of payment, both when she enters the U.S. on this visit, and at her future U.S. visa interviews.

Sincerely,
