Politics / A Lasting Solution To The Fulani Herdmen Vs Farmers Crisis Affecting The North by johntyrel: 5:24am On Mar 05, 2016
Over the past two years, at least 400 people have been killed in clashes between crop breeders and Fulani herdsmen in the Nigerian states of Benue, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Plateau state. –premiumtimesng. com

In fact, less than a week to the exit of the last government, over 100 persons, mostly women, children and the elderly, were slaughtered in villages and refugee camps located at Ukura, Gafa, Per and Tse-Gusa at Ukemgbiraghia Twarev Ward, in Logo local government area of Benue state, in one of the bloodiest attacks on Benue communities by the suspected herdsmen. -vanguardngr.com

The history of the Fulani encroachment on private land in Northern Nigeria tells a story of bitter conflict down the years, especially between the unwelcome guests and the Tivs on the Plateau. There is the story of how the Fulanis would leave many of their animals to graze all over the rich valleys and hillsides of the plateau, at the beginning of each season, while they wandered away with the rest to seek pasture in other parts for more greenery, to the consternation of the landowners. On their return, the nomadic herdsmen would simply gather their cattle, which would meanwhile have grown fat, and be on their way. -Nationalmirroronline .net

The problem boils down to the lack of green pasture in the north of Nigeria available for the Fulani herdsmen to feed their cattle with. To sustain their livelihood the herdsmen have to move about looking for pasture to feed their animals with. All hope is not lost as the solution to this crisis is not far fetched, does not require policy making from the Federal Government but rather it requires Common Sense.

The north is Nigeria's largest producer of wholesome and edible grains like millet, sorghum, corn and the rest. Do you know that these grains can be use to produce fresh fodders richer in essential nutrients than grasses. The cost of producing 50kg of fodder is very low compared to the cost of an human life.
The fodders are grown Hydroponically, which is a method of growing plants without soil but with water and nutrients. The fodders contains all essential nutrients required by the animals and have higher feed conversion rates than grasses and milled animal feeds.

The only solution to this crisis is Hydroponics. Yes! if grazing plants are hydroponically planted they will be produced in excess and cannot be affected by the adverse conditions being experienced by farmers in the Northern region of Nigeria.

Fashion / What It Takes To Be A Fashion Blogger by johntyrel: 8:01am On Dec 19, 2015
Starting up as a fashion blogger might seem a little bit daunting due to its numerous challenges. In Nigeria for example a lot of your people are aspiring to be fashion, style or beauty bloggers but have little or no platforms to display their creativity.

Most startup bloggers may not have what it takes to run a website. The technical skills required to run a website might discourage a few from venturing into this interesting field.

However starting up your own blog is as easy as saying jack. If you do not have the technical skills required you can create a non-self hosted blog on or on .com and start blogging today. Blogs on the platforms are very easy to setup and are absolutely free!

The only disadvantage of these platforms is that they are restricted and they come with a domain extension like . and ..com. When you have gathered experience you can now proceed to the blog yourself.

When creating posts ensure the information in this posts are relevant and are in the trend especially with style and beauty blogs
Use only clear images as way of illustrating your Ideas.
Apply to attend fashion shows as a member of the press to get latest releases from fashion houses.
Be creative as possible in your posts as it will you stand out among the crowd

Joining an established Blog
You can also consider joining an already established blog and send in your contents so they can publish on their platforms to save yourself the stress of setting up your own blog. Established blogs will give all credits to the blogger and might request you join as a full time blogger if you impress.
As of now the only Nigeria fashion website that allows user generated content is fashion online. The website believes in open source content as a way of encouraging upcoming bloggers out there.
You can submit your own content to them by visiting http://www.fashiononline.com.ng/submit-a-post/

Agriculture / The Magic Of Farming Without Soil And The Millions Of Naira It Will Bring You by johntyrel: 12:56pm On Dec 16, 2015
Just before I ever knew about hydroponics I had always wondered how plants could be grown all through the season without climatic considerations as an obstacle. I love the pumpkin leaf in soup (Ugu) but it never grows year round only during the rainy season and becomes scarce thereafter. When I discovered that with Hydroponics one could grow plants in a perfect condition and allow them to mature adequately with no risk to the health of the consumer, I was amazed.

Cattle and Pig farmers nation wide are not happy with the expenses incurred in feeding their animals or the selling price of the animals. Yes! in today's market the fat quality of meat is a strong determinant to how much you get for it. Hydroponics fodders contain little fat and more proteins and animals fed on fodders have a higher feed conversion ratio than the others.

Imagine how we can put an end to the recent chaos happening in Northern Nigeria between the Tivs and the Fulani herdsmen over grazing land. If a cattle farmer there knew about hydroponics he did be a millionaire by now because all other farmers will be dependent on his fodders for their animals to feed and survive.

I would rather not say everything there is to this million Naira industry instead I will advise you to register for a monthly training held by BIC Farms concepts in Abeokuta.

Agriculture / How To Feed Your Animals With Fodders Grown Hydroponically by johntyrel: 4:32pm On Jun 11, 2015
BIC concepts Nigeria brings you a comprehensive tutorial on Hydroponics by Adebowale Onafowora

Hydroponics is a subset of hydroculture and is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. Terrestrial plants may be grown with their roots in the mineral nutrient solution only.
watch this video for a tutorial :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pezN7y9R3os

The benefits of Hydroponics are as follows;
• The rapid, year-round production of fresh green feed is the main advantage of this hydroponic system.

• The green feed is highly palatable and both ruminants and monogastrics have greatly benefited from the introduction of the freshly grown, nutritious green feed in their daily diet.

• In terms of protein and energy, the contribution of green feed to the animal’s ration is tremendous. It is rich in vitamins, minerals and growth factors. Growth factors are protein molecules that are normally present in minute amounts in the animal’s bones, muscles, fat and most other tissues.

• There are several types of growth factors and their generic function is to induce mitosis (cell growth) in tissues.

• In many natural grass species, the protein content is relatively low and growth factors are not present in veld grass. Rich sources of growth factors include green feed, lucerne meal, fish soluble and milk; however, the best sources are those that are fresh and unprocessed.

• The occurrence of respiratory conditions is greatly reduced, because the green, hydroponic green feed is dust-free.
• Because it is grown naturally, there are no antibiotics, hormones, pesticides or herbicides in the hydroponic green feed.

• The cause of most digestive and metabolic problems in ruminants is a grain-based diet. These problems can be solved by completely removing grain from the diet and feeding barley/oats green feed instead

• In areas with poor or no grazing where farmers are heavily dependent on the rainfall, hydroponic green feed production is an attractive, profitable and financially viable alternative.

• Our recommendation is to produce sorghum, wheat, and corn green feed hydroponically, because it is less expensive and highly nutritious.
