Politics › What Do You Think About Nigeria’s $700 Billion Mineral Wealth? by join247(op): 11:19am On Sep 25
Nigeria and the United States have signed a new framework aimed at attracting investment into Nigeria’s mining sector, with the country’s estimated $700 billion mineral wealth at the centre of the discussion.

To be clear, the $700 billion is not money being given to Nigeria. It refers to the estimated value of Nigeria’s mineral resources, while the agreement is intended to encourage investment in developing those resources.

But the big question is: what could this actually mean for ordinary Nigerians?

Could it create jobs, boost local industries, improve infrastructure and help Nigeria reduce its dependence on oil? Or are there concerns about how the resources will be managed and who will benefit most?

What do you think? Do you believe Nigeria can turn this mineral wealth into real economic opportunities for Nigerians?

👉🏽 Let’s hear your thoughts.

In music, Mike Ire has released songs and continues to develop his presence as an independent artist. His approach to music is influenced by his personal experiences, creativity and interest in connecting with listeners through his work.

Away from music, Oyeleye Michael Isaac is also associated with the Nigerian hair and beauty business through Micohype Beauty Hair.

Micohype Beauty Hair operates in the human hair market, with a focus on human hair braiding extensions and other hair products. The business has previously received attention from Nigerian media, giving another public dimension to Isaac's activities outside the music industry.

The combination of music and entrepreneurship is not unusual among independent Nigerian creatives. Many artists increasingly take an interest in business, branding, digital marketing and other activities that can support their creative careers.

For Mike Ire, these interests have developed alongside his music rather than replacing it. His experience in business also gives him exposure to areas such as digital marketing, online promotion, branding and customer engagement.

This has made digital platforms an important part of both sides of his work. Music provides a creative outlet, while entrepreneurship provides a different avenue for developing ideas and building a business.

Crime › FCT Police Detain Four Officers For Allegedly Extorting ₦53,000 From ICPC Chairm by join247(op): 2:06pm On Jul 20
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained four police officers accused of extorting ₦53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu (SAN), during an illegal stop-and-search operation in Abuja.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed the development while briefing journalists on Monday, describing the officers' actions as a serious embarrassment to the Nigeria Police Force. He stated that the suspects had no justification for setting up the unauthorized checkpoint or engaging in extortion.

According to the police commissioner, the officers allegedly abandoned their assigned duty posts and mounted an illegal checkpoint around the Banex area in Wuse, where they stopped the ICPC chairman's vehicle without knowing his identity.

Sanusi said the officers reportedly forced Dr. Aliyu to withdraw ₦53,000 through a Point of Sale (POS) operator, with the victim also paying the transaction charges before the money was allegedly shared among the officers.

The police command has since taken the officers into custody and assured the public that disciplinary and legal action will follow if the allegations are established.

What do you think should be the appropriate punishment for police officers found guilty of extortion? Should dismissal alone be enough, or should they also face criminal prosecution? Share your opinion in the comments.

Authorities confirmed that one person has been recovered dead, while efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining passengers. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be officially determined, although investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Boat accidents remain a recurring challenge in several riverine communities across Nigeria, often linked to overloading, poor safety measures, and adverse weather conditions. Residents have continued to call for stricter enforcement of water transport regulations and improved safety practices to reduce the frequency of such incidents.

What additional measures do you think the government should implement to improve safety on Nigeria's inland waterways and prevent tragedies like this? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Sports › Argentina Vs Spain Halftime: Tactical Battle Ends Goalless In World Cup 2026 Fin by join247(op): 9:10pm On Jul 19
The Argentina vs Spain halftime score remains 0-0 as the FIFA World Cup 2026 final delivers an intense tactical contest at MetLife Stadium. With football's biggest prize on the line, both nations produced a disciplined first-half performance, but neither side managed to find the breakthrough before the referee blew for halftime.

Millions of fans around the world have been treated to a fascinating battle between two of international football's strongest teams, with Argentina relying on experience and resilience while Spain showcased their trademark possession-based style.

A Cagey but High-Quality First Half

The opening 45 minutes were filled with intensity rather than goals. Both teams approached the final with caution, knowing that one mistake could prove decisive.

Argentina pressed aggressively whenever Spain attempted to build attacks from the back, forcing several turnovers in midfield. Spain, however, remained calm under pressure and continued to dominate possession, patiently searching for gaps in Argentina's defensive structure.

Despite several promising attacking moves from both sides, neither goalkeeper was seriously troubled, highlighting the defensive quality on display.

Messi Leads Argentina's Charge

Playing in what could be the final World Cup match of his remarkable career, Lionel Messi once again became the focal point of Argentina's attacking play.

The captain frequently dropped into midfield to collect possession, attempting to link play and create opportunities for his teammates. Every time Messi touched the ball, Spain's defenders quickly closed him down, refusing to give the legendary forward enough space to dictate the game.

Although he produced a few dangerous moments, Spain's organised defensive setup ensured Argentina created only limited clear-cut chances before halftime.

Spain Stick to Their Winning Formula

Spain remained faithful to the possession-based football that has carried them to the World Cup final.

Their midfield controlled large portions of the game, recycling possession with patience while waiting for openings to appear. Quick passing combinations and intelligent movement allowed Spain to spend long periods inside Argentina's half, but the defending champions remained compact and difficult to break down.

Argentina's defenders stayed disciplined throughout the first half, preventing Spain from turning possession into goals.

Defensive Discipline Defines the Match

If the first half belonged to any department, it was defence.

Both backlines delivered composed performances, making crucial interceptions, blocking dangerous passes and limiting space inside the penalty area.

Every attack was quickly met by organised defending, resulting in very few clear scoring opportunities despite the high quality of both teams.

The match has become a fascinating tactical contest where patience and concentration are proving just as important as attacking flair

Politics › INEC Chair Not To Blame For Rigging — Deji Adeleke by join247(op): 7:28pm On Jul 19
The President of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, and billionaire businessman, Deji Adeleke, has challenged stakeholders to work together to entrench credibility in Nigeria’s electoral system.

Adeleke, the elder brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, spoke at the university’s 12th undergraduate and eighth postgraduate convocation ceremonies held on the institution’s campus in Ede on Sunday.

He said no chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, no matter how competent, could single-handedly prevent election rigging.

He, however, alleged that some corps members deployed for election duties and police officers providing security during elections often collude to manipulate results at polling units.

“People die, there is violence during elections. They have killed young people like you graduating today who might become adult staff of INEC, changing figures.

“You cannot blame that on the INEC chairman when youth corps members are collecting N50,000 and changing figures at the polling unit.

“Even if the INEC chairman is a spirit, is he going to be at all the polling units in Nigeria?

“Very soon we are going to have an election in Osun State. Osun State has 3,763 polling units. Is it humanly possible for the INEC chairman to be at all those polling units at the same time?

“But they have entrusted it to young people like you, and yet they will collect money and change the figures. We also have policemen with children who need a good country to have a future, aiding and abetting the rigging process, and people are killed just because of elections,” Adeleke said.

He said the implications of a manipulated electoral process were grave for the country, noting that the international community would continue to “look at us as primitive and backward,” despite Nigerians being highly talented.

“So, it’s very painful when you see these things happen because of ignorance of the implications of what people do on election day or the ignorance of judges perverting justice. The implication is that Nigeria will continue to regret it if it doesn’t change immediately. But it’s not too late for us to change. It’s never too late to start all over.”

In his convocation address, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Solomon Adebola, said the institution had recorded steady growth since its establishment in 2011.

He said the university admitted 1,554 students into various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes during the 2025/2026 academic session.

Adebola also disclosed that the university had secured approval from the National Universities Commission to run Medicine (MBBS) and Pharmacy (Pharm.D) programmes and would commence admission into both programmes in the 2026/2027 academic session.

Giving a breakdown of the graduating students, the Vice-Chancellor said, “We are graduating a total of One Thousand, Three Hundred and Seventy-Five (1,375) graduands from the College of Postgraduate Studies and six faculties for undergraduate studies.

“For the undergraduate students, the best graduating students are Ejiofor Onyinyechukwu Sonia from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science with a CGPA of 5.00 and Kinosi Victor Oluwagbemiga from the Department of Economics with a CGPA of 5.00.

“The best overall Master’s graduate is Olunlade Joshua Oluwafisayo, Master in Mechanical Engineering, with a Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) of 80.02, while the best overall Ph.D graduate is Ukenyi Chibunna Godspower, Ph.D in Religious Studies (New Testament), with a Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) of 77.32.”

He urged the graduating students to see the completion of their studies as the beginning of another phase of life and to approach the future without fear.
