Let me say this. The curfew was not necessary. It made the killing appear as a religious crisis.
This was a deliberate attempt to trigger religious unrest in the vicinity because there has been religious tension among the two religious groups. Maybe the terrorist forgot to shout Allahu Akbar to make it a religious act but that is unheard of about religious killings from Islamic terrorists.

In a two-way match-up between Obi and Tinubu, Tinubu would beat him silly. There is no way core Northerners would vote for Obi over Tinubu. However, if no major Northerner is on the ticket of any major party in 2027, and it's Obi vs Tinubu, they would vote massively for Tinubu.

He went on throwing tantrums, wasting energy and resources in litigation, and missed the opportunity to consolidate and build the structure of the Labour Party – a convenient vehicle he had appropriated overnight, barely three days before the presidential primaries of his previous Peoples Democratic Party in May 2022.

Justice Ayo Isa Salami, a retired president of the Appeal Court and an eminent jurist, has criticised Obi’s midnight migration to LP as an illegality that would have excluded him from the presidential contest. Salami said Obi’s participation was the result of poor judicial diligence and perhaps a lack of experience on the bench.

Okwute’s jump also stirred speculations and gave credence to the claim that he was deliberately avoiding primaries in the PDP.

Missed opportunity
Yet his near-spontaneous entry into the LP created a political wave that came at high tide. Not only was it dynamic, but it was the stuff of legend. Sustaining it beyond the elections would have made a great difference because LP very much needed nurturing, growth and strategy. But Obi was not paying attention, focusing instead on the next election rather than rebuilding the party.

The game in town
Yet, even in this temporary shelter, the only game is who takes the presidential ticket. While the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is preparing as if elections were tomorrow, collecting defectors, aggressively registering new members, and even testing its election situation room (all this despite its poor record in office), the opposition is missing in action. The opposition’s strategy appears to be to sufficiently discredit the process before elections to hide its own catastrophic incompetence.

Whether Okwute sees it or not, he has expended his store of political goodwill without reinvesting or making good capital of it. The man who won Lagos, the impregnable home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Federal Capital, catchment area for the government in power, has by word and deed, proved that it was a fluke – an emotional response from the young and aggrieved and a bloc of Christian voters thirsty for change.

That Kano visit
On Sunday, Okwute visited Kano on a Sallah homage to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP. In 2023, an expected alliance between Okwute and Kwankwaso failed because Kwankwaso, with a wider political footprint but no less ambitious, would not be Obi’s vice presidential candidate.

Kwankwaso had said offering Obi the vice presidential slot under him was a “golden opportunity,” implying that Obi would be lucky to join his ticket rather than the other way around. For good measure, Kwankwaso said age, experience, and performance disqualified Obi from the presidency, hinting that the NNPP would collapse if he accepted a subordinate role to Obi.

With Obi now in ADC and Kwankwaso still nursing the remnants of his NNPP, it is a good time to ask who is gravitating toward whom. The ambitions of both men are well known, and the ADC’s presidential ticket is nearly foreclosed.

Obidients won’t accept anything less than an Okwute presidential ticket. Kwankwaso’s impressive crowd, more on the streets with their red caps than behind touchscreens, is no less vociferous. They won’t hesitate to tell Obidients that RMK is bigger politically, older, and a PhD holder with far superior performance as governor.

And the Kano crowd – especially at Sallah – was, as usual, huge and dramatic. They received the guest as they would a mascot. In Kano, every player thinks they have the crowd until they see a bigger one.

The name Atiku Abubakar has been at the top level of Nigerian politics since I was a kid running around in shorts in the neighbourhood, kicking balls. There was always the rumour of his presidential ambition. Today, I have a kid kicking balls around, and Atiku is still chasing his presidential dream at age 79. It is funny how time flies. If Atiku’s interest in the presidency were being fuelled by a personal motivational speaker, I am sure that person would have run out of words over the years. Atiku’s presidential ambition has become an indirect impediment to Nigeria’s progress. Over the years, he has criss-crossed political parties within his reach in pursuit of that dream.

According to his Wikipedia page, Atiku ran unsuccessfully for President of Nigeria six times: in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023. He ran in the Social Democratic Party presidential primaries in 1993 but lost to Moshood Abiola and Baba Gana Kingibe. He was the presidential candidate of the Action Congress in the 2007 election, finishing third behind Umaru Yar'Adua of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the ANPP. He contested the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential primaries in 2011, losing to incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan. In 2014, he joined the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2015 election and contested the primaries, losing to the late Muhammadu Buhari. In 2017, he returned to the People's Democratic Party and became its presidential candidate in 2019, again losing to Buhari. In May 2022, he was chosen as the PDP’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general election after defeating Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, in the primaries. He came second in the general election, losing to Bola Tinubu, although he joined other opposition candidates in demanding a revote. In 2025, Abubakar left the PDP to join the African Democratic Congress, alongside his former rival, Peter Obi.

Atiku’s popularity peaked in 2019 when he contested against the late Muhammadu Buhari, with Peter Obi as his running mate. Atiku lost the election, but his performance was impressive. Many believed he could have won if the “federal might” factor had been absent. After 2019, Atiku became, in my view, a disruptive force in Nigerian politics. He is a variant that mainly affects opposition parties. He has become a stumbling block that undermines the potency of the ballot box and complicates the chances of peaceful regime change. In the 2023 general election, Atiku arguably helped Bola Ahmed Tinubu win. It was almost as if he were an All Progressives Congress undercover agent. He contributed to the implosion of the then-leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). A master of party politics, Atiku executed a plan to take control of the PDP leadership structure and secure the presidential ticket. His plan worked, but it infuriated party leaders such as the current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Peter Obi, who also sought the party’s ticket. Wike remained in the party and allegedly undermined it by supporting Tinubu, while Obi defected to the Labour Party, where he gained momentum and national popularity.

Tinubu won the election with 8,794,726 votes; Atiku had 6,984,520, and Obi secured 6,101,533. If both opposition camps had united, Tinubu might not have become president. After the election, I expected Atiku to step aside or abandon his presidential ambition. However, he remains active and is reportedly positioning himself to run again in 2027 against Tinubu, arguably at the expense of Peter Obi.

Atiku and Obi are now both members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). As expected, Atiku is seeking to be the party’s flagbearer. Obi is also interested, although he has admitted he might not secure the ticket, likely due to strong competition from Atiku and others. In my view, Atiku stands little chance against Tinubu, who reportedly has the backing of about 32 state governors. Obi, however, could stand a better chance, especially if his rumoured alliance with former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso materialises. The crowd they recently drew at a public appearance was significant and appeared to have caught Tinubu’s attention.

Ultimately, Obi’s fate is tied to Atiku’s decisions. The irony is that both men can hardly thrive politically within the same space. For Obi to truly rise, Atiku may need to step aside. Whether he will make that sacrifice for the future of Nigeria remains uncertain, but it would be surprising if he did.

Job Title: Warehouse Supervisor
Location: Ibadan

Job Summary
The Warehouse Supervisor will oversee daily warehouse operations, ensuring efficient stock handling, accurate inventory management, and timely order fulfillment within the FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) environment. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience supervising warehouse teams and managing high volume, fast moving inventory.

Key Responsibilities
1. Warehouse Operations Supervision
• Supervise daily warehouse activities including receiving, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch.
• Assign tasks and monitor the performance of warehouse assistants, loaders, and forklift operators.
• Ensure proper stock arrangement and adherence to warehouse layout/space utilization plans.
• Implement FIFO/FEFO principles for all FMCG products.
2. Inventory Control & Documentation
• Conduct daily and weekly cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
• Support in monthly stock reconciliation and variance investigation.
• Ensure timely posting of stock movements into ERP/WMS systems.
• Maintain accurate records of goods received, transferred, and dispatched.
3. Dispatch & Order Fulfillment
• Coordinate and verify picking lists, packing lists, and loading activities.
• Ensure orders are processed correctly and dispatched within agreed timelines.
• Prepare delivery notes, waybills, and other supporting documents.
4. Safety, Quality & Compliance
• Enforce compliance with safety protocols, hygiene standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of FMCG products to prevent contamination or damage.
• Conduct routine inspections of equipment (pallet jacks, forklifts, weighing scales).
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free warehouse environment.
5. Team Leadership
• Train and mentor warehouse staff on operational standards and safety practices.
• Monitor attendance, discipline, and efficiency of warehouse personnel.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
6. Reporting
• Generate daily stock movement reports and operational summaries.
• Report stock variances, damages, shortages, and operational challenges to the Warehouse Manager.
• Provide suggestions to improve operational efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience
• OND/HND/Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or related field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years practical experience in FMCG warehouse operations, with at least 3years in a supervisory role.
• Strong understanding of warehouse processes and FMCG stock management.
• Experience with ERP/WMS systems (e.g., SAP, Odoo, Oracle, Sage).
• Strong Excel and documentation skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
• Interested candidate must reside within Ibadan for effective operational support and availability.
