An Indian musician played the guitar on the operating table to help doctors treat involuntary muscle spasms in his fingers. Abhishek Prasad was asked to play every time doctors “burnt” a circuit in his brain to treat what is commonly known as “musician’s dystonia”. The condition causes painful

spasms, twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures.

Mr Prasad told the BBC that he was able to play with ease after the surgery. “By the sixth burn, my fingers opened up. I was normal on the operating table itself,” Mr Prasad said after doctors removed the stitches on his head on Thursday, a week after his operation in the southern Indian city of Bangalore.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has ordered the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, to produce Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, dead or alive within 40 days.


According to a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, on Friday night, the army chief directed Attahiru to use everything in his arsenal to seize the terror leader.

Yesterday, about 20 students of the Department of Political science, Ekiti State University, were involved in a ghastly auto crash while on their journey from Abuja where they went for the 2016/17 ACADEMIC TRIP.


The trip was led by a senior lecturer of the department and the president of the department.


The accident occurred along the lokoja-Abuja expressway, after one of the tyres of their bus burst.


Everyone survived, but few were injured.

37-year-old herbalist, Sikiru Ifashola, today appeared in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly kidnapping a child and demanding a ransom for her release.

Ifashola, of No. 16, Sholuyi St., Ifako Gbagada, is standing trial on a charge of kidnapping, which he pleaded not guilty to.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 12 at about 9.30a.m., at Ogudu GRA.

He said the accused abducted one Bose, the daughter of the complainant, Mopelola Adewunmi, and demanded N50,000 for her release.


“Ifashola had pretended to consult his oracle for the search of the missing girl and had demanded that the complainant pay him N50,000 before her daughter could be found,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the offence contravened Section 271(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Police in Kano have arrested a 67 year-old-man for allegedly raping the granddaughter of his childhood friend and neighbour.

Magaji Majiya, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, made the statement while briefing journalists in Kano yesterday.

He said the suspect was arrested at Gaida Fadama quarters for sexually assaulting the eight-year-old girl after giving her N400.

“The elderly man was arrested for sexually assaulting the eight-year-old granddaughter of his childhood friend and neighbour after giving her N400.


“He confessed to the crime and investigation is still in progress,” Mr. Majiya added.

Mr. Majiya said that the command had also arrested two notorious miscreants popularly known as “Yan’daba,” for armed robbery, extortion, breaking-in and murder.

He said that one of the suspects, Nura Abdulmumini, who was arrested at Lokon Magina at Kankarofi quarters, was involved in the murder of an innocent passer-by in front of School for Arabic Studies sometime last year.

“He also led a notorious gang of Yan’daba to extort valuables from innocent people before he fled Kano. He returned during the last Eid-el-Fitr,” he said.
