Romance / Re: At This Age And Still A Virgin? by JonI1(f): 10:25am On Feb 12, 2012
I'm joining the discussion a little late so will be asking a redundant question.

How old are you exactly? It'll help us assess how well you've done, That's the point of posting this right?
Fashion / Re: Wedding Dress Of The Month! by JonI1(f): 10:12am On Jan 22, 2012
Designed and tailored by the guy who makes curtains in Wuse market. He was trying to show his creative side " I can make you look like the ends of a curtain pole"
Politics / Re: Governor Lamido Releases His Prisoner After Chains Of Insults And Curses. by JonI1(f): 10:59pm On Feb 06, 2011
What exactly did Moukthar Aminu say about Lamido ? None of the news reports I've read say.
Romance / Re: What Are The Advantage And Disadvantages Of Arranged Marriage? by JonI1(f): 8:23pm On Feb 04, 2011
@Wumine's quite right. I read somewhere in some parts of the north Katsina and Kano, women average 6 marriages in their life time. My Great Grand Aunt had 8 husbands before she died, I should mention though that by the time she was 80 years old the two last husbands died on her. Consistent with reports

She was very happy each time she got married (complete with girlie giggles), So I don't think endurance was really a problem; commitment was more the issue.

More info if curious on the subject:

I was thinking about this and at first thought " there can't possibly be advantages to an arranged marriage". Then I realized I was probably thinking about it in the context of forced marriages especially of cousins; underage girls and the lengths to which they go to get out:

I also thought about unattractive suitors, with buck teeth and mouth odour (I think that's left over from tales by moonlight)

In Nigeria,  at a certain age very effective systems (those snide comments, pitiful looks, weekly phone calls to check 'how far' and the endless prayers) ensure you feel like worthless crap until you're married. Once they've torn you down, no self esteem and no feelings of self-worth; you're ripe for the plucking. Once you get introduced to a 'good boy/girl' from a 'good family' you are saved! You're so grateful for their 'assistance'. There's no way it feels arranged.

The advantages would probably be more obvious for the families involved probably to a lesser extent for the actual individuals involved (don't quote me oh). Marriages unite families and strengthen community ties (mostly). A safety net if you live nearby (and faraway too) and the families would probably be very supportive especially when the children come along. All for the good of the progeny right?

Misbehave or try to break it up and then AHA! Endless interventions! Everyone in your bizness!Trapped!Forever, And dare not have a child,
