Recall that the incident came about after xenophobic attacks in South Africa took a different dimension with the killing of foreign African nationals.

In response, Nigerians and people of other African countries staged protests against South Africa brands which was later hijacked by hoodlums using the opportunity to loot properties.

Area Commander of Shangotedo, Gbolahan Olugbemi, said a total of 125 suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack on Shoprite with 90% of the stolen goods recovered.

According to the police, 112 of those arrested were found in possession of stolen items and have been charged to court

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu called for an end of South African businesses in Nigeria as he queried the South African government over its cold feet in protecting Nigerians and their businesses during the recent xenophobic attacks in the country.

In a statement released by his media aide, Kunle Oyekunle, the Chief Whip of the ninth Senate and former Governor of Abia State asserted that South Africans have lived and carried out their businesses peacefully in Nigeria. He stressed that the arrest of South Africans behind the attack is not enough.

Facebook and Instagram are Distroying Children’s Mental Health –New Stud warns
-SOCIAL media raises children’s risk of mental health problems by up to half, a major study suggests.

Researchers have warned that social media raises children’s risk of mental health problems by up to half.

The researchers who carried out a major study warned that social media exposes teenagers to cyber-bullying and harms sleep.

Logging in as little as four times a day can raise the danger by half again, the study of more than 10,000 children shows.

Checking various social media platforms weekly means the risk of suffering “psychological distress” is up to 20 per cent.

Boys on social media irregularly have a ten per cent risk of suffering mental health issues.
But it rose to 15 per cent in those who logged on several times a day — a jump of a half.

The study showed that teenage girls who check Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat weekly have a 20 per cent risk of psychological distress. But for those logging on frequently — four times a day or more — the risk increases to 28 per cent, a rise of 40 per cent.
With half of all mental illness starting before the age of 14, Dr Louise Theodosiou, from the Royal College of Psychiatrists, said social media giants must do more to protect kids.

According to The Sun UK, she said: “We’ve seen a worrying rise in low mood and depression among girls and young women in recent years. This paper helps our understanding of the link between social media use and mental health problems.”
The findings are in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health.
'PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS'
The findings come from the first major study look at how heavy social media use may damage mental health. It involved more than 10,000 English youngsters aged 13 to 16.

They say parents should not be endlessly telling children to get off their phones and tablets.
Instead, they should ensure children get eight to ten Hours Sleep and insist they exercise.
