The alleged billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, on Friday described before a Lagos State High Court how the police allegedly killed five detainees in his presence at a place he called “Inspector General Guest House” in Lagos. He added that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad boasted before him that they had killed over 30 suspects. He claimed that policemen made him witness the executions to make him to admit to criminal allegations against him. Evans and his accomplices, Uche Amadi, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, Victor Aduba and one female, Ogechi Uchechukwu, are standing trial on amendment charges bordering on conspiracy and kidnapping, pressed against them by the state. Evans, while being led in evidence on Friday by his counsel, Olarenwaju Ajanaku, said the police tortured him during investigation. He said, “At the backyard of the guesthouse, I saw some people that I was paraded with. They put chains on their legs. Some of them had bullet wounds on their legs and Mr. Phillip (a police officer) ordered Idowu Haruna to bring a big brown sellotape, handkerchief and polythene bags. “Idowu Haruna forced a handkerchief into the mouth of one of them. He used the sellotape to tightly tape his mouth and face and put a polythene bag over his head and sellotaped it. He used another polythene bag and sellotaped it for the second time and they left the man on the ground. “The man was shaking on the ground, he urinated on his body; he defecated on his body and after a while, he went quiet. “Idowu Haruna went to the man, stepped on his body, but he did not respond and Haruna told me ‘can you see I have travelled him?’” Evans added that four more persons were executed in the same manner by the police officers in his presence. “I was brought before them and I started begging, asking them what they wanted me to do and they told me to cooperate with them. I promised to do anything they wanted me to do. “Phillip asked them to take me back to the house and he asked if I knew the method of the killing and I said no, he said that it was called ‘Saddam Hussein’. “He said that there was no way an autopsy can predict the cause of death of the five people they had just killed,” he added. The kidnap kingpin claimed that Idowu Haruna was a member of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, adding that the policeman forced him to sign 25 pages of confessional statements. He added that he was threatened and tortured by the police when he refused to sign the statements. He said he was eventually forced to sign the confessional statements. During cross-examination by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ms Titilayo Shitta-Bey, Evans confirmed he was the one in the video played in the court which showed when he (Haruna) was writing the statements for him (Evans). “The story I told the court was never an afterthought, SARS killed more than 30 people in my presence, and the killings took place at the IG’s guesthouse in Ikoyi,” he said. The Ogun State Government on Tuesday evening debunked the rumoured demise of the former Head of Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan. It said the rumour was untrue. The rumoured death of Shonekan filtered into Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, around 6 PM on Tuesday. However, the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, has dispelled the rumour through a telephone call to journalists. He said, “It is a lie from hell. Baba is alive.” Shonekan is a British-trained Nigerian lawyer, industrialist, and traditional chief. He was appointed as interim president of Nigeria by General Ibrahim Babangida on 26th August, 1993. Source https://punchng.com |

#October19th1986. Exactly today October 19th 1986 the infamous letter bomb was delivered at Dele's home at No. 25, Talabi crescent, Off Talabi street, Adeniyi Jones Avenue Ikeja Lagos . Colonel Halilu Akilu of the directorate of military intelligence has spoken to Dele Giwa earlier, asking for directions to his house so as to pay him a visit on his way to Ikeja airport having been slated to travel to Kano and also giving him a tip as regards a parcel from the commander-in-chief most likely an invitation to some official events. Remember he had also told Dele not to worry about the allegations against him which led to the interrogation by the DMI and SSS on the 16th and 17th October respectively. Dele's Son Billy was the immediate recipient of the parcel which bore the seal of the Presidency, and was marked TO BE OPENED BY THE ADDRESSEE ONLY. "This must be from the Presidency" Giwa said with a smile as he collected the package from his son and the rest became history. Killers of Dele Giwa are seemingly so powerful that they frustrated all efforts to investigate his death. Let me prick your conscience with one frustrated effort. One Herbert Tunde Dare a senior police officer with the special branch was assigned to the investigation. Soon after he began work with his accustomed energy and commitment, he was transferred to Kaduna from Lagos. He visited Lagos to file a preliminary report on his investigations and in attempt to return to Kaduna by Air, he was given another assignment on the eleventh hour that warranted his returning by road. Announcing his death, the police said he had lost control of his car while trying to overtake another vehicle. He had died instantly. The wreck of the car he was allegedly driving was never seen till date. 31 years later, the perpetrators of this dastardly act against Dele, his family, relatives, friends and all who are touched by his story appears to have gone scorch free. But in as much as Dele lies in the grave lifeless, they will remain restless till they become useless in the dust! Permit me to end this submission with one of my favorite quotes of all time as put forward by the late Dele Giwa 2 yrs before his death, precisely on 30th August 1984 "NO EVIL DEED WILL GO UNPUNISHED, ANY EVIL DONE BY MAN TO MAN WILL BE REDRESSED, IF NOT NOW, THEN CERTAINLY LATER, IF NOT BY MAN, THEN CERTAINLY BY GOD, FOR THE VICTORY OF EVIL OVER GOOD CAN ONLY BE TEMPORARY
