Gaming › How Do You Test A Controller For Stick Drift Before Buying One? by joypadtester(op): 1:18pm On Oct 28
I learned this the hard way. I once bought a used controller that looked perfect, felt fine in my hands, and started drifting within a week. The seller was gone, the money was gone, and I was stuck with a pad that walked left on its own.

Since then I never pay before testing. It takes about two minutes. I plug the controller into a laptop, open joypadtester.com in the browser, and set the controller on a table with my hands completely off. If the sticks sit at zero for ten seconds, that is a good sign. Then I rotate each stick in slow circles and let it snap back on its own. A healthy stick comes back to zero every time. After that I press every button once and squeeze both triggers slowly, just to catch anything sticky or half dead.

That small check has saved me from two bad buys since. What about you guys, how do you test a controller before buying? Do you return a drifting pad, try to repair it, or just live with a bigger deadzone?
