Oil painting is the process of painting with pigmentation that are limited with a method of dehydrating oil. Widely used dehydrating sebum include linseed oil, poppyseed oil, maple oil, and safflower oil. The oil may be boiled with a material, such as maple material or frankincense to make a varnish; often valued for its body and shine.

Although the record of tempera and relevant press in European countries indicates that oil painting was found there individually, there is proof that oil painting was used previously in Afghanistan.
