richard870:
A friend of mine who lives somehwere in Lagos returned home from work only to see his Landlady and one of his co-tenants smooching intensely at the back of the house while trying to power his generator.
Afterwards,he said 'she came to my apartment begging me not to tell her. husband'.My friend also told me her husband travelled to Europe lastweek for a business trip.
Now,the issue at hand is that my friend is in the middle of something he never wished for.Your advice please
Thanks in advance
I know its you and not your friend. So my advise is, don't meddle into their business you hear? If you're looking for who to tell, ask God to forgive them

Something to consider @OP

Is the supplier a company or an individual? (E.g friend or friend of friend etc). If the supplier is a company, then they may not have purchased from a reliable seller. If the supplier is an individual, then its very likely he purchased the product online from one of the usa based online sites at a very ridiculously low price meant to attract unsuspecting individuals. You should also understand that nobody is particularly immune to scams like this, people fall victim of such scammers everyday even on ebay or amazon, but the good thing is that sites like ebay or amazon have full buyer protection when such occurs. Sometimes even experienced shoppers fall for the temptation of buying very lowly priced items from people who just created a new account on ebay or amazon for the purpose of making a sale. while all of them are not scammers, it is important for the buyer to check the reputation and registration date of the intending seller.

In any case, purchases of this sort made in the US are entitled to a 14 day return policy, though some sellers allow up to 30 to 60 day allowance for returns, Its almost like a law in many states so the product can be returned, all you have to do is send it back to the supplier for return to their seller (usually at your own cost of the supplier is an individual helper who bears no responsibility for return cost)

I would suggest that you empower the supplier next time to open and inspect the item before shipping next time (if they purchase from a third party)

Tranquill:
The fact that corruption attracts lesser punishment than stealing, cases of embezzlement should also be charged as stealing and not corruption as the president had advocated if only to act as a deterrant.
Well, i believe we should follow the law and do what is needful, which is amending the punishment for corruption. We the citizens have a stake in this, remember we are the ones electing these senators and house of assembly members who have refused to amend the laws against corruption. Corruption should be seen by us as a very serious and heinous crime, like the way we see girl and child rape, anyone involved in it should be detested by us the way we detest rapists and common thieves. Only then can corrupt officials begin to hide their faces from the public.
PoliticsPublic Office CRIMES In Nigeria Are Cases Of Corruption, Not Stealing. Be Wise! by justiceman(op):
In order to buttress my point, i have to define stealing and corruption, and then explain the difference, and also call to your attention the dangers of supporting corrupt governments in the upcoming elections.

Stealing:

Stealing can be defined as taking someone else's property without right or permission from the owner. It also includes taking (stealing) someone's ideas or words and using them as if they were yours. A very common and simple case of stealing would be when your father keeps money in his drawer and you creep into his room in the cover of night to take some or all the money without his permission or knowledge.

source: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/stealing

Corruption

Corruption is the abuse of public resources to enrich or give unfair advantage to individuals, their family or their friends. This involves many activities including Bribery and Embezzlement

Going further, Embezzlement is defined as a kind of financial fraud which involves the diversion of funds or assets entrusted to you for a specific purpose, and converting such assets or funds into personal use. A very simple case of embezzlement is when your dad gives you money to pay for school fees for your younger siblings but instead of doing just that, you convert the money to your own personal use while the school fees is left unpaid, or you pay for only 1 out of the 3 siblings and use the rest of the money to yourself. Another domestic case of embezzlement is when your spouse hands you money to buy foodstuff and cook a decent meal but out of greed, you convert most of the money to personal use while the stew (sauce) tastes like tomatoes flooded with water.

Bribery on the one hand is defined as a crime which involves giving money or any item of value to influence the action of a public official or anyone taking charge of an official duty. For instance, one of the most common cases of bribery you'll likely witness in the coming elections is: party officials offering money to the Police, Security agents, INEC adhoc staff and Party agents of rival political parties, to look the other way while their accredited or non-accredited voters thumbprint multiple times in favour of their party.... OR bribing all the officials mentioned while their own fraudulent ballot box or thumbprinted voting papers (with most votes for their parties) are used to replace the authentic ones.

source: http://www.corruptionwatch.org.za/content/what-corruption
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embezzlement
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bribery

From the definitions and examples above, it is very clear that most of our public office holders are mostly involved in cases of bribery and embezzlement which are direct acts of corruption, rather than stealing. Being that many political and public office holders in Nigeria always fall into the temptation of converting most or all of the money entrusted to them for provision of public services into personal use, it is right to say they are engaged in corruption, which is considered in many countries as a crime against humanity.

Corruption should be publicly detested by all Nigerians. It is the cause of lack of social amenities such as electricity, good motorable roads, treated pipe borne water and other social services lacking in most Nigerian communities. It is very important to point out here that a public official discharging his official duties in a seemingly acceptable level to the public does not absolve him of corrupt practices. While it is nearly impossible for public officials to utilize 100% of the money entrusted for public projects, that is what the law states and that is what the citizens must demand. This is the reason that in many countries, even people who have performed measurably well are still tried for corrupt practices after they leave office.

Conclusion: I have done my job to educate you, It is your job to sit back and reflect on this. Think about how your life is contributing to the problem we have in Nigeria. Think about how your support for corrupt leaders around you is fueling the impunity called Corruption, and how your actions are contributing to the underdevelopment in Nigeria. Begin now to stand up for justice against corrupt office holders, justice against fraud in public offices, and above all, justice against electoral fraud in Nigeria. No matter who you support for presidency or governorship or house of assembly elections at all levels, encourage a free and fair electoral process that will ensure the decision of the majority people counts. Reject the temptation to support your candicate to impose his/her will on the masses through electoral fraud. It may favour you in the short term but it will not favour the coming generations, your gains will not even guarantee their security and success in the future. A time will come when you reflect back like Elders in our country today and think about how your past actions may have contributed to the destruction of the society your children live in.

These are excerpts from a publication today on the Vanguard Newspaper about Buahri, APC Presidential Candidate, when a section of over 400 pastors under the aegis of the Northern Christian Leaders Eagle Eye declared their support for him on Thursday in Abuja. The whole publication is very long so i culled this part where he made his speech to them on the occasion.

I have no personal, religious agenda —Buhari

Buhari, in his response, took time to refute the allegations that he is a religious extremist and would pursue the Islamization of Nigeria if elected president.

He said: “The ruling government and PDP have adopted this sad, divisive and false narrative as their strategy to prevent the inevitable change that our country and people desire and require. And they have succeeded in making some of us victims of the tales which they invent, propagate and sell as gospel truth to gullible listeners, while it is all nothing but a tissue of lies.
“I would like to solemnly declare that in spite of what our detractors say, I am not a religious fanatic of any sort and I have never been. In all my life, I have never supported extremism of any kind, and nowhere in my record of service to this nation can this false toga, political opponents have tried so hard to put on me, be substantiated. Indeed, it is very unfortunate and I feel extremely sad that I have to give this type of assurance.

“My background is in the army, and there is no doubt that the military is the most integrated pan-Nigerian institution. And even today, the military is one of the institutions that represents the pride of our nation’s possibilities in unity. Compatriots from every corner of this country come together, work and live together, entrust their lives to each other and integrate their families. It is a military where many of my dearest friends, from all faiths and parts of the country, lost their lives defending the unity of our nation. That was the military I served in, and in that military it was impossible to be a bigot.
“For me, the issue of religion was, and should always, be a matter of personal conviction. This personal conviction approach to religion has defined my work and interactions all my life, including my tenure in office as military Head of State. The religion of all those I worked with was never a factor in their progress or in what happened to them. All that mattered then, and should still matter today, are competence, integrity and readiness to be fair to all.
“I was recently informed that we had a balanced cabinet with key positions such as Finance, Energy and Defence occupied by Christians. In addition, 11 of the 19 governors I appointed were Christians. My most memorable recollections of subordinate service was under Christian bosses, the finest our country had then, and among the most respected today. Indeed one of the best appraisals I received in the course of my military career was from General T.Y Danjuma.
“Government has no business preferring one religion to the other. The role of government is to protect lives and properties of citizens and to respect and protect their constitutional rights.”
He continued “Let me state this categorically, that I, Muhammadu Buhari, as an individual, and as president of this great country by the grace of God, given the opportunity to serve, have no personal religious agenda. And I will not entertain, consider or promote the religious agenda of anyone. I will not condone any initiative that seeks to promote one religion over the other. Neither I, nor my party, or any member of my team has any desire or plan to Islamize or Christianize Nigeria or support anyone with such intention.

“Although I am a practising Muslim, and I have been so all my life, I have never belonged to, nor shared the views of, any extremist group. I am not even a cleric. I believe that religion is personal and private. Most of my bodyguards are Christians. If I have not Islamized these people who serve under me, how will I Islamize the likes of Chief John Odigie- Oyegun, Ogbonnaya Onu, Governors RochasOkorocha, Kayode Fayemi, Rotimi Amaechi or Professor Yemi Osinbajo who is a senior advocate of Nigeria and a pastor? Or how will I Islamize Nigeria?
“Our constitution, which in many respects, is similar to the American constitution does not permit a state religion. The Sharia identified in the constitution is almost synonymous with customary law. It is only applicable in matters of personal status such as marriage, divorce and inheritance. This has been the case since the 1979 constitution. Just as no one can make any customary or any other religious law the law of Nigeria, so Sharia cannot therefore be the law of Nigeria.
“Wicked propagandists continue to spread vicious lies about me for political gain, including claiming that I once asked Muslims not to vote for Christians. This must be the height of absurdity. How could I ever say that, when whoever voted for me would be voting for the Christian running with me on the same ticket?
“And how could I ever say that of Christians when my own holy book, the Qur’an, tells me that in the entire world those that are nearest in love to me are those who believe in Jesus Christ [AS]? I ask, who, intending to win any election, ever does that? How can I choose southern Christian running mates [Chuba Okadigbo of blessed memory, Pastor Tunde Bakare and Pastor YemiOsinbajo] and with them by my side”, he said.

Politics2015: Jonathan Moves To Stop Slide. Is It Too Late? by justiceman(op): 4:37am On Feb 21, 2015
ALARMED by seeming soaring popularity of his main opponent in the March 28 presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan may have decided to personally coordinate his campaigns for the strategic election, which has already drawn global attention.
Saturday Vanguard learned last night that Jonathan was uncomfortable with field reports that he would have been defeated by Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) of the All Progressives Congress, if the election had been held on February 14 as earlier planned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

To stem the tide of the perceived “Buhari momentum” and tilt the pendulum in his favour, Jonathan, it was gathered, has opted to drive some aspects of his campaign by himself by meeting relevant political groups and individuals considered very important for his victory.

Personal touch

A source close to the new thinking in the Presidency, said that Jonathan had come to the realization that it would be better for him to be personally involved in the new phase of campaign instead of relying on emissaries, some of who have not been able to “deliver” despite being appropriately empowered to do so.

Ignores party chieftains in Lagos

Indeed, President Jonathan’s visit to Lagos beginning from Wednesday did not include elders of the party in the state.
President Jonathan, as part of his visit itinerary, met with market women yesterday without any indication as of press time that he would hold meeting with PDP leaders and elders in the state with the state leader of the party, Chief Bode George said to be away in England.
A chieftain of the party, who believes that the President has not carried the state party structure along in his quest to woo and win the state, Mr. Lukman Abioro, wondered why people like Chief Bode George, General Tajudeen Olanrewaju and others were not part of the visit.
Another leader, who spoke under anonymity said, “Mr. President has done well enough for Nigeria but I think he can be more comfortable as second term President if he wins in Lagos. But he has been in the same Lagos for the past three days and we are not carried along.”

Poor performing aides

The President was said to have been rattled by the discovery that many of the party leaders, who had assured him that they were fully in charge of their states and would deliver them to him, were far from delivering on their promise barely a few weeks to the crucial election.
Apart from the field reports, which were being sent regularly to him from each state, the president was said to have come face to face with the reality of the state of support for him when he visited the respective states to campaign.
A top source said that what the president saw in many of the PDP states, which gave him massive support in 2011, was far from encouraging and he decided to take an urgent step to salvage the situation instead of waiting for any of the governors or so-called political leaders from the zones.

“That is why the President is in Lagos to be able to woo as many South-West leaders and supporters as possible. I can tell you that although he went to Lagos officially to commission the four new war ships acquired for the Nigerian Navy, the underlying reason is to spend more time in the South-West and meet with relevant political entities and individuals who can help him out,” a close source to the Presidency said.
It was learned that unlike before when aides of the president spearheaded meetings and discussions with those considered germane to his re-election, Jonathan will personally meet with key traditional rulers, top businessmen, community leaders and even former party leaders, who had defected to the opposition and could be swayed to work for him anywhere he visits from now.
Already, Jonathan’s personal touch approach is said to have started yielding dividends with a host of some Yoruba leaders drumming support for him.

Unhappy with attacks on Danjuma

The source said that the president was also worried about the recent verbal attacks on General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) by Nigeria Delta militants, fearing that the man, who personally rallied northern Christians and leaders for him in 2011, could be provoked by the insults to work against his re-election.

To visit Danjuma, Northern leaders

For that reason, Jonathan is said to have made up his mind to visit Danjuma and other northern leaders to personally plead with them to see reasons to still stand by him as they did in the last presidential election, which he won with ease.
A prominent northern leader told Saturday Vanguard yesterday that the assault on Danjuma by the former Niger-Delta militants did not go down well with most northerners, who have now decided to work against Jonathan, to retaliate the unwarranted attack on one of their leading lights.

Feuding media team

These developments came in the wake of alleged squabble among the President’s Campaign Media team. The media team was said to have performed poorly prompting recent appointments. Still the team has incurred the wrath of some presidential aides for allegedly paying more attention to attacking personalities in the opposition rather than zeroing in on issues that could rake more support for the president.
It was not clear as at last night if some changes were in the offing to sharpen the campaign team and elicit more support for the president as the date for the election draws nearer.

My Question is, Is this move too Late?

I have to ask this question after series of observations:

First, the call for change increased with high tempo and Gen Buhari and the APC were at the center of it. Interestingly, many Nigerians both in Nigeria and abroad seemed to be buying into the new political melody till...

Suddenly, there were these campaign videos everywhere on the TV and the internet. They were targeted at the personality of Gen Buhari as a religious bigot and a ruthless dictator who would send people back into the days of the military. The APC on its own part muscled its resources together to try to counter the damage being inflicted on their presidential hopeful. It looked like it was already too late for the APC because many people who had switched sides in favour of the APC had suddenly lost their admiration for the party. The hate campaigns were sustained by the PDP strategists, even the staunch APC loyalists could not help but cry out over the influence the videos were having on their friends and some "unsuspecting" members of the public according to them. The PDP had suddenly started regaining its confidence on a Jonathan re-election bid when all of a sudden...

The Economist threw its own bomb at President Jonathan. It described the incumbent president as an "Utter failure" on the basis of what it described as "Endemic Corruption" and little enthusiasm to tackle the Jihadist movement going on in the North East part of the country. The internationally respected Media Organization also took a swipe at the former dictator (Buhari), describing his military rule as "nasty" and "destructive". Finally, it went ahead to conclude that Gen Buhari could be the "Least Awful" candidate according to the title of its Feb 7, 2015 publication. This is seen by many as a cautious endorsement of the candidature of Gen Buhari over the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.

This was the first shock to the presidency, coming just a week to the initially scheduled feb 14 elections. The presidency was quick to fire back at the economist in a bid to suppress the collateral damage, but the shock waves it felt could be seen all across the country.

Again, came the series of shock-waves sent to the presidency from notable Nigerians and foreign interests including Prof Wole Soyinka, Prof Charles Soludo, and yet again, The New York Times.

The election was postponed till March 28 amidst controversies of possible influence by the military through the presidency. Conspiracy theorists believed the postponement was a last minute desperate move by the President and his advisers to advert a possible loss at the polls, but the question of the preparedness of INEC still persisted.

With the recent replacement of President's social media strategist, Reno Omokiri, speculated in the media as a consequence of failed media campaign strategies that did not sway much public interest on the side of President Jonathan, and also controversies bothering on the activities of Reno Omokiri, i am wondering,

Did the social media Hate Campaign strategy by the PDP against General Buhari achieve its desired Objectives, or was it really a failed political gamble?

Please respond by stating how it has affected you or your friends' perspective about the candidature of Muhammadu Buhari.
