Wow..nice seeing a Quantity Surveyor here. How far have You gone? Just got my IELTS result: 8,9,7,8 ..making 8 overall band score so i couldn't meet my target of 20 points for English. This your AIQS experience just confirmed my fears. Please email me, let us get to connect. Based in Abuja.schooled at ABU.. eronmoselejustus@gmail.com Cheers. qstomiwa: Around May last year, I had plans of migrating to Australia/ Canada, At a point I got stuck in choosing between the two countries, I know moving to Australia as a QS is a very good choice and agreed the choice will be based on my IELTS result that if I can have 8 in LRSW modules in IELTS, I will choose Australia and anything less will be Canada. I did my first English test IELTS on 13th of May 2017 and I had L8 R8 W7 S6.5. I was weak as 7 in speaking would make me kick-start the Canadian journey and I read about PTE and I registered for PTE on 7th June 2017 (I lost my dad on the same day). I pushed for my skills assessment with Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and writing PTE at the same time so as to crash the waiting time after getting an outcome from AIQS. I paid 715 AUD for skills assessment and it came out negative though am aware AIQS is very strict in their assessment. My BTech (hons) degree in Quantity Surveying from FUTA was not recognised by the Assessor, though my UK MSc was recognised. The Comments made by the Assessor are as follows: - The degree is not equivalent to Quantity Surveying/Construction Management and Economics degree. - The transcripts list only a small proportion of subjects that may directly relate to Quantity Surveying.
My skilled employment was also not recognised. Comments made by the Assessor are as follows: - Not recognised experience based on submission from a member of an Institute which is not recognised by the AIQS The Overall comments made by the Assessor are as follows: • The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors is not recognized by the AIQS and the current referee is not listed as a member of the country of residence Institute. • Recommend post graduate study and experience under a supervisor defined by the policy.
I submitted an appeal, paid 440 AUD and submit new references and a letter from my HOD showing my BTech is equivalent to Australian Quantity Surveying/Construction Management and Economics degree and a matrix showing some courses in my transcripts and its equivalence in Australian varsities offering Quantity Surveying/Construction Management and Economics degree. The appeal came out negative though the BTech was later recognised but one of the skilled employment was not recognised and the general comment of the assessor was “The applicant needs an additional 8 months of skilled employment under the supervision of a person who has a Quantity Surveying qualification that is recognised under the SMA policy”
Waiting for 8 months will be like hell so I get a new ref letter and I fired back instantly paying another 715 AUD, and almost two months I called AIQS twice and I was told my Assessor has not replied their mail so I had to write them officially and called after sending the mail around 5.40 am Nigerian time and the lady told me am just typing your report now and you will get it shortly. I almost fainted and could not do anything and about 3O minutes later I got their message and I opened it and got a SUITABLE outcome, I felt I just got my 189 grant. @Tee79 has been very nice to me she has given a lot of valuable advice in this assessment journey, and @Spyroxy1 has given a lot of ideas in tackling PTE, he is very approachable and helpful, his ideas, advice and mock test kits are very useful.
This PR process is not in any way cheap oh, On Assessment alone, I have spent roughly 1900 Australian Dollars, I have written 1 IELTS and PTE 5 times and I have faith am going to ace it if folks here can ace it at several attempts, am going for the 6th PTE soon. I also spent money on ECA (for Canada) and courier services. The race for 20 points in PTE begins in earnest, might write IELTS too. I am sure I will ace it one day. Considering Subclass 190 visa in New South Wales with 55 points + their 5 points, I hope to get nominated early. My PTE timeline is as follows: L R S W 1st PTE - 7 Jun 2017 71 72 51 72 2nd PTE – 18 Oct 2017 76 73 61 90 3rd PTE- 23 Oct 2017 74 73 72 71 4th PTE – 31 Oct 2017 75 67 60 78 5th PTE – 1 May 2018 72 66 68 75
There is no substitute for PATIENCE, CONFIDENCE, SMARTNESS and FAITH in this journey, if I can get it, you can get it, don’t be tired and discouraged. |
