The Delta State Police Command have arrested a member of an armed robbery gang at new Eku Road, Amukpe, Sapele Local Government Area, after he was wrestled by a female victim.

Sources said luck ran out of the armed robbery gang who have been terrorizing the area when it trailed the victim, a trader who had closed for the day and was on her way to her house.

“Two members of the gang stationed themselves outside the house while three others took positions in the compound”, a source who sought anonymity said.

First Class graduate who wrote JAMB 6 times, dies few days after completing his NYSC

A 29-year-old gentleman, Simon Godwin Idoko, a First Class Graduate of Pure and Applied Chemistry from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto State, has been confirmed dead few days after passing out of the National Youth and Service Corps (NYSC) program.

Simon who reportedly took JAMB six times before gaining admission for his first degree, served as a graduate assistant at Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu State before his death.

A friend of the deceased, Ameh Godwin confirmed the sad incident in a tribute he shared on Facebook.

A 46-year-old male banker attached to one of the United Bank For Africa (UBA) branches in Lagos state, Nigeria, has committed suicide for a reason yet to be known.

Mr. Ibeakanma, a father of one, was found lying lifeless in his room in Victoria Island, Lagos State.

According to reports gathered by Sources, the deceased identified as Onyechere Ibeakanma from Umuakam Afugiri in Umuahia north LGA, Abia state died after drinking a substance believed to be sniper.

Until his death on Friday 9th of August 2019, Mr. Ibeakanma was a Human relationship Manager at the UBA.

According to what a family source told Sources, Ibeakanma left a suicide note for his wife who went shopping when he came back from work, intimating her of his intentions to end his life.

14-yr-old girl commits suicide in Delta over boyfriend

A teenage girl who was a student of Kess College in Ekredjebor area of Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, has reportedly committed suicide over a failed relationship with her boyfriend.

According to Vanguard, the 14-year-old simply identified as Favour who was in SS1, was found dangling from a ceiling fan in her home with a suicide note stating reasons for her action,Her corpse was said to have been discovered by a friend who had visited Favor to make her hair.

Chief Mike Ahamba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and Muhammadu Buhari’s lawyer before he (Buhari) emerged president in 2015, has declared that the President has failed.

Ahamba, who was Buhari’s lawyer during his numerous attempts at the presidency before he eventually won in 2015, said nobody can count himself safe in this country anymore.

According to the elder statesman, it was quite unfortunate that after accusing former President Goodluck Jonathan of being weak in 2015, Buhari himself has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

“I want to say this with all sincerity that the country has been overtaken by the state of insecurity,” he told Sun.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday insisted that the Nigerian military in collaboration with armed forces of neighboring countries have made tremendous progress in the war against insurgency since the inception of his administration.

He said this while recounting how Boko Haram insurgents held Nigeria hostage before he assumed power.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Course 27 at the National Defence College in Abuja, Buhari said his administration has made effort to rid the nation of terrorism, insurgency and associated national security and humanitarian challenges.

A statement signed by his media aide, Garba Shehu and forwarded to DAILY POST, quoted Buhari as saying: “This occasion affords me another opportunity to briefly reflect on the state of the Nigerian nation, particularly regarding national security. At the inception of our first tenure in 2015, Nigeria was at a critical crossroad.

“The Boko Haram group was at the height of its infamy and virtually held Nigeria hostage. It constituted a clear and present danger to our corporate existence as a nation.

“After four years of grueling work, I can report the progress that we have made in tackling the security challenges, with the combined efforts of our regional coalition partners, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies, diverse government agencies, national and international development partners as well as local traditional leaders.

“We have spared no effort to rid the nation of terrorism and insurgency and associated national security and humanitarian challenges. I particularly thank the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their patriotic efforts. I also thank all our development partners and foreign governments for their invaluable contributions.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) accused the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, of behaving as though he is the duly elected president of Nigeria.

Atiku had lost to Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the APC, in the February 23, 2019, poll.

Atiku, a former vice president, is challenging the outcome of the poll at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

While the tribunal is yet to decide on the matter, the APC says Atiku is trying to usurp the powers of the president by issuing statements on topical issues both within and outside Nigeria.

In a statement by its spokesman, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC said Atiku might be committing a felonious offense.

The ruling party noted that it would take decisive action against Atiku if he continues to act in a manner that portrays him as the president of Nigeria.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has said beginning from this year’s “Batch C”, only academic certificates and transcripts of foreign students authenticated by Nigerian consulates in foreign countries of study will be accepted for national service.

According to a report by TheNation, the NYSC chief alleged that some African institutions sell degree and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates and transcripts to some Nigerian students for between N300,000 to N500,000.

Ibrahim stated this on Thursday at a meeting with representatives of 159 African institutions presenting corps members to Nigeria in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The theme of the event was: Strategies for a Successful Mobilisation of Nigerian Foreign Graduates: The Role of Stakeholders.

The NYSC chief threatened to blacklist institutions found culpable in the sale of degrees and HND certificates to Nigerians.

He said: “In recent times, there has been an upsurge in the number of graduates who cannot defend their degree certificates. Some tertiary institutions simply sell their degrees/Higher National Diploma certificates to persons who never passed through academic rigor.

We have evidence of persons who possess originals of such certificates and transcripts from some universities that are represented here.

“To check this ugly trend of certificate racketeering, we strongly recommend that the Federal Ministry of Education liaise with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that all degrees and HND certificates obtained outside the shores of Nigeria are authenticated at the Nigerian consulate in the country of study.”
