The singer was widely celebrated across northern Nigeria for contributing to traditional music and cultural preservation. Renowned traditional musician John Zuya, popularly known as John Mai Molo, is dead. The musician died in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, after allegedly eating food suspected to be poisoned. PM News reported that the singer, who had recently returned from Lagos on 16 October, after performing at several cultural events, reportedly fell ill shortly after consuming a meal suspected to have been poisoned. He collapsed moments later and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where he was confirmed dead. Confirming the incident, a fellow musician and close associate, Emma Wakili, announced the singer’s death in a Facebook post on Saturday around 7:00 a.m. “It is confirmed that John Zuya passed on this morning at 7:00 a.m. His body has been placed in the mortuary as we move forward with the investigation,” Mr Wakili wrote. In a follow-up post, Mr Wakili expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing John as more than a friend. “One of the most terrifying and painful moments of my life has been losing John Zuya. More than a friend, he was a brother. We shared dreams, made plans, and believed in a future full of promise. Now, he’s gone. “His passing has left behind a cloud of unanswered questions, a situation shrouded in uncertainty. But God is not a man. The truth must come to light, and justice must be served. The investigation continues,” he lamented. Mr Wakili also confirmed that the singer’sbody has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for an autopsy, as investigations continue to determine the exact cause of death. The singer was widely celebrated across northern Nigeria for contributing to traditional music and cultural preservation. He was popular for his songs ‘Abar Matasa’ and ‘Chaskale’, which feature Emma Wakili. His sudden demise has left fans, colleagues, and the Northern Nigerian entertainment community in shock. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/entertainment/music/829509-popular-bauchi-musician-is-dead.html |

Someone sees the way you are being maltreated, harmed and killed while looking helplessly. Then you turned around and began to say "it's a lie, people of the same ideology are killing themselves too, so, don't come to my aid". How does it sound to the mind of the hearer? |

Kayode Oladele, acting chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), says appointments under President Bola Tinubu reflect a numerical advantage for the northern region. He spoke in Abuja at the opening of a one-day workshop titled ‘Strengthening Leadership and Management Excellence in the Federal Character Commission in Line with the Renewed Hope Agenda’. Oladele said the administration’s appointments are guided by the constitutional principles of equity and national balance. Citing data compiled by the commission, Oladele noted that the north currently holds 56.3 percent of federal leadership positions, while the south accounts for 43.7 percent. “These figures provide clear evidence of deliberate inclusion and underscore the President’s commitment to national balance and faithful implementation of the Federal Character principle,” Premium Times quoted Oladele as saying. According to the FCC analysis, the north-west and south-west have the highest number of ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet, with 11 each — representing 22.9 percent of the 48-member team. The north-central follows with eight ministers (16.6 percent), while the north-east has seven (14.5 percent). The south-south and south-east have six (12.5 percent) and five (10.4 percent) ministers, respectively. Beyond the cabinet, the data show that the north-west holds the largest share of federal leadership appointments with 157 positions (22.1 percent). The north-central zone has 139 positions (19.5 percent), while the south-west follows with 132 (18.5 percent). The north-east accounts for 105 positions (14.7 percent), and the south-south and south-east have 91 (12.8 percent) and 88 (12.4 percent), respectively. Oladele noted that the figures point to a deliberate attempt by the Tinubu administration to balance representation, explaining that “federal character is not a rigid quota but a principle designed to promote unity in diversity.” While the data cover major appointments, they exclude special advisers, senior special assistants, and other presidential aides, as well as the service chiefs and heads of law enforcement and security agencies. Oladele said the commission remains committed to “deepening compliance with the federal character principle across ministries, departments, and agencies.” https://dailytimesng.com/tinubus-appointments-favours-north-than-south-fcc-chairman/ |

The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has reaffirmed that its law enforces a 10-year ban on industrial strikes and lockouts in the Free Trade Zones. Dr. Olufemi Ogunyemi, Managing Director of the Authority, made the statement in Abuja, following frequent and excessive external union infiltrations that have destabilised the smooth operation of the Dangote Refinery. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) shut down critical oil and gas facilities last week over allegations that Dangote refinery had sacked 800 workers who joined the union. However, the Dangote refinery held that it only sacked a few workers who were allegedly sabotaging the facility, claiming this was part of the company’s reorganization. The NEPZA boss stated that the recent escalation of the trade dispute between the zone and the PENGASSAN, particularly given the refinery’s status as a Free Trade Zone, was worrisome. He added that the trade union should have directed its concerns through NEPZA, as required by law, as the Authority operated a One-Stop-Shop administrative model to fast-track processes. “Section 18(5) of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones (NEPZA) Act provides that “there shall be no strikes or lock-outs for a period of ten years following the commencement of operations within a Zone, and the Authority shall resolve any trade dispute arising within a Zone,’’ he said. According to him, the above provision imposes a 10-year prohibition on strikes and lockouts within Free Zones while still allowing workers to join or form trade unions and engage in collective bargaining. “We are pleased that the conflict has been de-escalated. Dangote Refinery is a declared FTZ that continues to benefit from tax incentives and customs duty waivers to support the economy, and NEPZA regulates it. “The Free Trade Zone scheme in Nigeria is slightly over 30 years old, and we ought to be familiar with the scheme and the global rules that guide the operation of this world economic model, which aims to accelerate economic development and industrialisation. “The NEPZA Act requires us, along with all instruments of the corporate government system within the industry, government agencies, and relevant sectoral and specialised bodies, to honour the Authority’s “one stop shop” status in overseeing the scheme,’’ Ogunyemi said. Dr. Ogunyemi further reiterated that trade disputes originating within a zone must be referred to the Zone Authority for resolution, adding, however, that this restriction applied exclusively within the Free Zones and did not extend to the broader Nigerian economy. The NEPZA Chief Executive also pointed out that Section 24(1) restricted excessive interaction between external laws and the operation of the scheme, as laws applicable within the customs territory can only be operational within Free Zones to the extent that they are not inconsistent with the NEPZA Act. “Consequently, in cases of conflict between the Trade Unions Act (TUA) or Trade Disputes Act (TDA) and Section 18(5), the provisions of Section 18(5) take precedence as the more specific regulation governing Free Zones. He, therefore, expressed the Authority’s strong appreciation for the swift action taken by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to de-escalate the dispute, which was a clear demonstration of safeguarding the national asset. Ogunyemi added that labour issues often pave the way to industrialization. ” It is a sign of President Tinubu’s maturing democracy that this has been resolved quickly without deleterious effects on our economy,” he said. https://www.google.com/amp/s/thewhistler.ng/nepza-may-ban-pengassan-for-ten-years-over-shutdown-of-dangote-refinery-free-zones/amp/ |
