A FEARFUL ESCAPE: LAGOS WOMAN FLEES ALLEGED FAMILY ABUSE AND RITUALISTIC PRESSURES LAGOS, NIGERIA — A harrowing account provided by Oluwaseyi details the alleged forced abduction and abuse of a woman, B J Christopher, who reportedly went into hiding in Abuja to escape what she described as a family involved in witchcraft and criminal activities. According to Mr. Oluwaseyi, his relationship with Ms Christopher, which began in May 2019 and developed romantically through their shared church community, revealed a deep family conflict rooted in traditional rituals. Ms. Christopher, a devout Christian, allegedly confided in Oluwaseyi that her mother and maternal relatives practiced witchcraft and were attempting to force her participation against her will. "Bose explained to me that her refusal to participate in these practices caused deep conflict within her family and that she feared harm if she disobeyed her mother," Oluwaseyi stated in his statement. Tensions reportedly escalated in early 2024 when Ms. Christopher became visibly distressed. She told Oluwaseyi that she was being pressured to return home for rituals and allegedly forced into a relationship with a man identified as Ovuh, whom she described as being involved in both witchcraft and criminal activities. Ms. Christopher reportedly expressed terror regarding the proposed non-consensual union and the ongoing threats she faced. Attempts to report these issues to authorities were allegedly not taken seriously. The situation reached a crisis point on April 10, 2024. According to ambode,a woman identified as Ms. Christopher's maternal aunt arrived at Bose's residence with an unidentified man. Oluwaseyi, who was present at the time, reported that the individuals forcefully entered the home, began shouting aggressively, and caused chaos by throwing household items. During the commotion, Ms. Christopher sustained a leg injury that left her bleeding and in pain. Despite Oluwaseyi's attempts to intervene verbally, the two individuals allegedly forced her into a waiting vehicle and drove off with her against her will. Oluwaseyi stated this was the last time he saw her for several months, during which time she was unreachable by phone. Ms. Christopher eventually re-established contact on or about September 28, 2024. When they met, Oluwaseyi described her as "traumatized, fearful, and emotionally shaken." She allegedly disclosed that she had been held against her will, subjected to rituals, threatened, and abused by her family and associates of John Ovuh. Fearing for her life, Ms. Christopher sought refuge far from her family's reach. Oluwaseyi arranged for her to hide with a trusted friend, Oluwaseun Bello, in Abuja. With the assistance of Oluwaseyi and support from their church community, Ms. Christopher remains in hiding, as efforts are underway to ensure her temporary safety and basic needs while she evades her alleged pursuers |
