Politics200 Anambra Youths For Second Edition Of Skill Acquisition Training by kasynlives(op): 9:23pm On Jun 20, 2017
No fewer than 200 youths in Anambra will benefit from the second edition of Anambra Skills Acquisition Training.

Newsmen, report that the training would be conducted at the Federal Youth Development Centre, Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area.

Speaking at its inaguration in Awka, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Entrepreneurship, Mrs Uju Nwogu, said the training was in line with the efforts of Gov. Willie Obiano to empower the youths.
She added that the training was also to make the youths self-reliant and self-confident by equipping them with contemporary skills to combat unemployment.

“You may recall that last year at the Centre in Mgbakwu, 200 youths of Anambra origin were trained in various self-sustaining skills.

“Now less than a year, another batch of 200 will commence the training.

“This is a demonstration of our believe that developing entrepreneurial mind-set in the youths is panacea to economic growth.

“We are sure that the enormous resources being committed for the success of this programme will be justified.

“Thank God for the governor who has made this possible because he believes in the youth as the future of our state,” she said.
The commissioner said the beneficiaries would be trained on various skills such as shoe making, confectionery, decorations, phone repairs, solar power and interlocking.
She added that they would also be trained on landscaping, tiling, wall screeding, Plasta of Paris (POP), fish hatchery, hair-making and other entrepreneurial skills.

Declaring the training open, Gov Obiano, represented by Mr Harry Uduh, the state Head of Service, urged the youths to bear good fruit and justify the investment on them.

Politics130 Communities In Anambra Complete The First Phase Of N20m 'choose Your Project by kasynlives(op): 9:25pm On Jun 10, 2017
By Vincent Ujumadu

Awka— NO fewer than 130 communities in Anambra State have completed the first phase of the N20 million ‘choose-your-project’ scheme initiated by Governor Willie Obiano to enhance infrastructural development in all parts of the state.

Briefing reporters in Awka, yesterday, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Ogbuefi Tony Nnacheta, said 14 of the projects were nearing completion, while 13 communities had issues with their projects due mainly to environmental hazards.

According to him, the expectation was that by the end of this month, 175 projects would have been completed and ready for commissioning, adding that Governor Obiano had also decided that communities, which had completed their first phase projects would receive another N20 million for the second phase.

Under the ‘choose-your-project’ programme, the community formed project implementation committee that selected the particular project for their area, while the contractor, who must come from the benefiting community, would report to the committee for proper supervision of the project.

Among projects executed by the various communities include town halls, markets, renovation of school blocks, construction of roads and others.

He said: “We discovered that many communities had no new projects executed in their areas in the past 30 years and this administration felt that the choose- your-project scheme was a good way of giving them a sense of belonging. The response we have received from the various communities shows that it was one of the best decisions ever taken by this administration and many communities are already looking forward to the second phase.”

“Apart from the fact that the people got a project that was dear to them, it was also a way of empowering them, as all the workers were people from those communities.”

Nnacheta explained that 50 projects have already been approved under the second phase of the scheme, adding that they had already passed through all the processes required before the commencement of work.

SportsAnichebe To Provide Synthetic Pitches In Schools, To Partner Anambra Government by kasynlives(op): 10:16am On Jun 06, 2017
Former Super Eagles striker and English Premiership striker Victor Anichebe, says he is willing to partner with Anambra Government to provide synthetic pitches in schools in the state.

Anichebe made the appeal at the final of his maiden grassroots football championship for youths in Anambra, held at Nri Boys High School in Anaocha Local Government Area on Sunday.

He said that he hoped to achieve the development of youths through his “Own Goal Project’’.

The player, who made his mark at Everton FC of England, said there were lots of talents that were not in an environment that could help to develop their talents.

“I just think it is important to support the youth, I am where I am because of the support of some other people.

“And it is for me and other people that played the game as well as the government to give the youth the necessary lift.

“I plan to partner with the state government to do more things like this with my “Own Goal Project’’ and application that can be used to showcase the talents of these young ones across the world.

“The quality of play is good, it could be better; the field is not the best and hopefully with the collaboration of the government I can help bring better pitches to my state,’’ he said.

“I intend to put a synthetic pitch here and that is the way forward for youth football in Nigeria, we need the pitch because it serves in all weather.

“Let us be honest to ourselves, if we want to be a strong nation in youth football, we can’t continue to play on pitches like this.

“In England, we have parks that have great pitches, these youths need to go and train, they need better facilities and that is what government should do for them in addition to what we are doing.’’

Anichebe appealed to governments in the country to provide basic facilities to effectively harness young talents at the grassroots.

He also urged the Anambra Government to reinvigorate school age sports through greater collaboration between the ministries of sports and education.

The Chairman, Local Organising Committee for the competition, Anthony Ugorji, noted that improving on the sports facilities in schools would make them to become centres of both academic and sporting excellence.

“We must return to the schools and grassroots to rediscover our glory in sports as a nation.

“We must thank Gov. Willie Obiano for his interest and impressive record in youth empowerment.

“We also urge the governor to ensure synergy between the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sports for effective sports development in primary and secondary schools,’’ he said.

He expressed the hope that the competition would continue for more talents to be discovered and urged the government to mentor to stardom those who performed well.

Black Stone Boys of Nri defeated Ogene FC of Obeledu 1-0 to win the trophy with a cash prize of N500, 000.

The runners-up got N300, 000 for their efforts.

Dynamic FC of Aguluzigbo beat Enugu-Ukwu boys 5-4 on penalties in the third place match to get N200, 000, while the latter went home with a consolation prize of N 100,000.

Anambra Revenue Service seals bank over N2bn debt
By Joy Mbachi

The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has sealed some branches of Eko Commercial Bank in the state over alleged N2 billion tax default.

Mr Achike Emejulu, the AIRS Executive Chairman, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Awka.

He said that the agency sealed most of the bank’s branches in the state after obtaining writ of execution from the Court because of non remittance of Pay As You Earn tax.

Emejulu said that the N2 billion tax accumulated from 2006 to 2011.

The chairman said that the government would recover all debts owed it by corporate organizations in the state.

He said that the agency will soon seal a beverage company in Onitsha and another commercial bank for their inability to pay their taxes.

Emejulu said that the state has about one million potential taxpayers, but only about two hundred thousand are currently paying tax.

PoliticsAnambra State Govt Donates 50 Motorcycle To Police by kasynlives(op):
The Anambra State Government has donated 50 motorcycles, fitted with modern communication gadgets, to the state’s police command, to support its fight against criminals.

Mr Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector-General of Police, who disclosed this to journalists on Sunday in Lafia, described the gesture as the first of its kind, and challenged other state governments to emulate it.

“The support by Gov. Willie Obiano is unprecedented; it will enhance our operational capacity and aid our resolve to fight crime and criminality in all nooks and crannies of the state.

Police IG Idris happy with the gesture
“Aside the motorcycles, Obiano also donated a massive land for the establishment of the 54th mobile sNext pagequad at Aguleri,” he said.

He assured the people and government of Anambra that the police would reward the state for such gestures through effective communal policing.

Idris said that the motorcycles would ease the fight against criminals in remote areas, and called for more support from members of the public.

The police boss said that the Force would partner with government, stakeholders and traditional institutions toward ridding Nigeria of insurgencies, kidnapping, armed robbery and other crimes.

“We need to work together with all stakeholders at all levels. The synergy between relevant stakeholders and security agencies will assist in fishing out bad eggs in the society,” he said.

Idris noted that such synergy was particularly crucial to effective policing of rural communities, pointing out that criminals fleeing the urban cities usually disappear into the villages.

He appealed to governments at all levels, religious leaders and traditional rulers to educate members of their respective communities on the importance of peace and unity to the development of any society.

Idris advised Nigerians to be law-abiding and respect constituted authority, and stressed the need for everyone to be vigilant and report any suspected person to the nearest police station.

By Vincent Ujumadu

AWKA—TRADITIONAL rulers from all the communities in the seven local government areas of Anambra Central senatorial zone will collectively honour Governor Willie Obiano with a chieftaincy title on June 16, 2017, in recognition of what they described as his outstanding performance as the governor of the state.

To ensure the success of the programme, the traditional rulers have set up a seven –member planning committee headed by the traditional ruler of Ifite Dunu, Igwe Emeka Ilouno.

Other members of the committee are Igwe Patrick Okeke of Abagana representing Njikoka local government; Eze Chidubem Iweka of Obosi representing Idemili North; Eze Nnebo III of Akweze representing Anaocha; Igwe Sunday Okafor representing Awka South; Igwe Mac Anthony Okonkwo of Alor representing Idemili South and Igwe Nnaegbuna of Ebenebe representing Awka North.

Addressing reporters at the end of the committee’s meeting in Awka, Igwe Ilouno said the traditional rulers in the area decided to honour Obiano to appreciate his good works in the areas of security, agriculture, infrastructural development, education, as well as his ability to pay all categories of civil servants as and when due.

Ilouno also said the governor was being honoured for his equitable distribution of amenities to all parts of the state.

Adding that despite the ongoing economic recession in the country, he has been assisting all the 179 communities in the state with N20 million choose –your –project initiated by his administration.

He said: “When someone who has done well is appreciated, he will do more and that is why we want to encourage him by giving him the chieftaincy title. We in Anambra State are lucky because we are blessed with achievable governors.

“Former Governor Peter Obi promised to give us a governor that will be better than him and we thank him for giving us Obiano.”

According to the royal father, the chieftaincy title to Obiano has nothing to do with politics, adding that for all the traditional rulers in all the communities in Anambra Central to come together to honour him was an indication of the love the people had for him.
