The first thing that comes to mind when the name of Thomas the disciple is mentioned is "doubting Thomas". He got this tag (doubting Thomas) because he was not with the disciples when Jesus first appeared to them after His resurrection and when they told him that Jesus is risen and He has appeared to them Thomas said he will not believe until he sees the hole in Jesus' hand and he feels where they pierced Him on the side.........John 20:24-29. I think he deserved to be tagged "doubting Thomas.


However, In my bible study i saw something of note about Thomas that is worth pointing out about his bravery as an apostle.


Here is the Story


Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.


Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.” When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”


Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was.


Then after this He said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.” The disciples said to Him, “Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, and are You going there again?”


Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” These things He said, and after that He said to them, “Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him up.” Then His disciples said, “Lord, if he sleeps he will get well.” However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep. Then Jesus said to them plainly, “Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe. Nevertheless let us go to him.”


Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.”

John 11:1‭-‬16 NKJV


The disciples were scared about Jesus' decision to go Judea again because the last time he was there the jews attempted to stone Him. The contribution of Thomas in this context is of great commitment to Jesus and his words were of encouragement to other disciples to follow Christ no matter what may befall them. But it appears Thomas was never remembered for this bravery.


LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF THOMAS THE DISCIPLES

Thomas' life taught me 2 great lessons;


1. No one is perfect: doubts may be found in a very brave person. Therefore whatever you do, always pray that God should keep you up so that you will always stand firm in the faith and no doubt will be found in you.


2. People may not remember the good things we've done in the past but they may be very quick to tag us "bad" the moment they find faults in us. But when we are in Christ there is no condemnation for us. Romans 8:1


PRAYER

Our kind and Heavenly Father, we pray to You this moment that You have mercy on us. We always want to stand firm in You. We do not want the spirit of doubt to triumph over us. We cannot do this by our power that's why we seek Your Holy Face. Have mercy upon us Dear Lord.

KNOW HIM & ABIDE IN HIM

I John 2:3-11 NKJV

Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments: He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him.

By this we know that we are in Him: He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.

He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

KNOWING HIM
Knowing Him is associated with keeping His commandments. Jesus simplified this when the pharisees asked Him what is the greatest commandment. Click here to read "the ten commandments simplified"

ABIDING IN HIM
To abide in Him means to walk as He walked. How did He walk? Jesus' life and ministry is a perfect demonstration of a life of Love and Humility. The Only begotten Son of God left His glory above to become one of us (He was not ashamed to associate Himself with the people made in His Image but now corrupted with sins). He healed all our disease and renew our hope of eternal life.

All these are just what we must think about whenever we need motivations to abide in Him.

Knowing Him and Abiding in Him means we are living our lives in light. He who says He's in light (Knows God and Abides in God) and he who hates his brother is in darkness (he is not in God neither is he abiding in God).

But He who loves His brother is in Light (Knows God and Abides in God) therefore there is no cause for stumbling in Him.

CONCLUSION
Love God and Love your neighbors. Live a life of Love and Humility. By these, you know Him and you abide in Him.

LESSONS FROM THIS SHORT STORY
Jesus was coming with multitudes when the Leper met Him.
1. First of all, the Leper was not intimidated by the crowd. In the midst of the multitude, he found his way to Jesus and he worshiped Him. No matter what your environmental condition may be (pleasant condition and unpleasant conditions), always worship God.

2. In those days, people with leprosy are seen as sinners. This particular leper in the story recognised himself as a sinner. Even as a sinner, he worshiped the Lord of host by diligently seeking His help for healings. "Lord, If you are willing You can make me clean" he knows that Jesus has authority over everything, so this is an opportunity for him to be saved if Jesus is willing. Therefore no matter how sinful you are or what your condition may be, the Lord is willing to help you if you also recognize His ability to save.

3. Our God is a Merciful God. If you humble yourself before him and you diligently seek His face, He will answer you and put an end to your sorrows.

Behold, the Lord ’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. Isaiah 59:1-2 NKJV

In the account of our Lord Jesus Christ according to the book of Matthew, Jesus began His ministry and public Evangelism with a message of Hope. He began the beatitudes with message of blessedness.

Blessed are the "poor in spirit" You may want to ask; "what does it mean to be poor in spirit?" To be poor in spirit means you are not spiritually whole. This further means you see yourself as a sinner and with humility, you see the need for a saviour. This bible says for yours is the Kingdom of Heaven (Salvation). ....“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” Mark 2:17 NKJV

Jesus also gave a message of hope to those who mourn, the people who have witnessed the injustice of sins and it's consequences on human race. The meek shall inherit the earth, the peacemaker shall be called the sons of God, and so on.

This "sermon of Hope" is to remind us of the manner of Love the Father have for us, this "sermon of hope" is to lift our fallen spirit and to tell each other that as long as we hold fast in the faith, we are blessed before the Father and the hope of eternal life awaits us.

PRAYERS
As we remind each other of this message of hope, may the good Lord continually hold us up in this race, may He bless us as we wait on Him and may He bless us with life eternal. In Jesus name we pray.

When I saw this story I was so so touched and when I took my time to read the story again I saw each steps that was taken and these steps actually moved the Lord to fight the battle.

THE STORY

2chronicles 20:1-30 nkjv

1 It happened after this that the people of Moab with the people of Ammon, and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against Jehoshaphat.
2 Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar” (which is En Gedi).
3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord , and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
4 So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord ; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
5 Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord , before the new court,
6 and said: “O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You?
7 Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever?
8 And they dwell in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying,
9 ‘If disaster comes upon us—sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.’
10 And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir—whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them—
11 here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit.
12 O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
13 Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the Lord .
14 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly.
15 And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
16 Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel.
17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord , who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”
18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the Lord , worshiping the Lord.
19 Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with voices loud and high.
20 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”
21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord , and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:
“Praise the Lord,
For His mercy endures forever.”
22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.
23 For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.
24 So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.
25 When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much.
26 And on the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Berachah, for there they blessed the Lord ; therefore the name of that place was called The Valley of Berachah until this day.
27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat in front of them, to go back to Jerusalem with joy, for the Lord had made them rejoice over their enemies.
28 So they came to Jerusalem, with stringed instruments and harps and trumpets, to the house of the Lord.
29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries when they heard that the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel.
30 Then the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around.


PRINCIPLES FROM 2CHRONICLES 20:1-30

1. Seek the Lord with fasting and prayers (vs1-4)
2. Remind God of His power (vs 5-6)
3. Remind God of the past victory (7)
4. Remind God the promise He has made concerning calling His name in times of troubles that He will save (;8-9)
5. Gently present your requests PRAYER (;10-13)
6. Then LISTEN (after prayers) and allow God to speak to you, He will show you the way to victory (; 14-17)
7. Give thanks & Worship God (; 18-19)
8. Believe in the LORD your God and you shall prosper, Believe also in His prophet and you will be established (; 20)
9. Sing praises to God in the face of your battle (; 21)
10. When you sing praises to God in battle, God will fight for you (; 22-24)
11. Because you have involved God, your fears will bring you blessings without struggle (; 25)
12. Do not be carried away with the blessings, sing praise to God again and again (; 26-30)

The Lord God who fought Jehoshaphat's battle is still the same God we Serve, follow this principles above and relax your mind, that difficult situation you have found yourself will become the Lord's battle.

BELIEVE! JUST BELIEVE!!!

John 3:16-18 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.


I John 5:10-13 NKJV
10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.
11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Read the bible verses over and over again but ponder more on verses 16 & 18 of the book of John chapter 3 and on the verse 13 of the book of I John chapter 5.

In these three verses, we will see the importance of believing in the son of God. The only secret to the ultimate goal of every Christian is to believe in the name, purpose and mission of Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:16 says "WHOSOEVER believes in Him should not perish, but have EVERLASTING LIFE". Verse 18 of that same chapter says "He who believes in Him is NOT CONDEMNED; but he who does not believe is condemned already"

I John 5:13 says "These things I have written to you who BELIEVE in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Believe! Just Believe!!! That's all you need and you will not be condemned, even though on the day of Judgement, Satan may try to remind you of your terrible pasts, but because you have turned your life around and you have believed in Jesus, in His cause and in His mission, there will be no condemnation for you.

WHOSOEVER believe in Him will not perish, but have EVERLASTING LIFE, therefore "BELIEVE! JUST BELIEVE!!!"

THE LORD ALMIGHTY WILL STRENGTHEN OUR FAITH.
AMEN!!!
