BusinessRe: Business Ideas For Returning Nigerian Diaspora. by keemax(op): 7:01pm On Jun 22, 2012
Hi people. I will advice you to go for a BUILD-OWN-OPERATE variant of PPP with the toilet or convenience idea. Why?
Since you own it; you will determine the price people will pay; if you are tired of doing the business you can sell it off to any willing investor. I expect you to eye a minimum of three locations for a start.

When you identify this opportunity - the best way to sell your business idea to the state government is through developing a business plan that would ensure cash is generated to the coffers of the state and the park union.
It has to be a win-win scenario for all the stakeholders - that is when you can stack the odds of success in your favour.

What other strategic places can you locate conveniences? We will get to know that next week.
Thanks.

Friends, today marks a month on our journey towards job empowerment and financial emancipation. Thanks for your loyalty to the thread.
I hope the journey, so far, has been a worthwhile one for you. I intended uploading a free report to mark this milestone, but the content was said to be above the upload limit for the forum. I have been in a dilemma since about what to do. Is there anybody who can help me out of this?

I wish to pass the material to you in time - to help you at the business plan phase. I await your help.

We shall continue next week. Thanks.
BusinessRe: Business Ideas For Returning Nigerian Diaspora. by keemax(op): 2:23pm On Jun 21, 2012
Hello people. With our first PPP idea at the state level, it is important we know that toilet facilities cannot be placed just anywhere.
For this idea, you need motor parks without surrounding bush - which will give people an alternative pee centre; which would mean no sales for you. Remember, we need a thickly populated area with no bush option to succeed.

How do I stack the odds of success in my favor to get such a PPP project?
Let us know tomorrow. Thanks.

Hello. We asked ourselves which other type of knowledge we must aquire. Since your work will be your business - you have no choice than to learn basic business skills.

What are these skills? Sales and marketing, customer services and relations, record keeping, inventory control and other skills required for the day to day running of the business.
These knowledge is vital to your survival in business.

Tomorrow we will look into some of these skills and why we need them.
Thanks.

Good afternoon friends. Like we said yesterday, it is important we have a working knowledge of our chosen work. Expertise is required so we can be the first choice of our target market.
It is true that some work require you hold a degree before you can practise e.g engineering, medicine, pharmacy; if you intend to do such, going back to school is inevitable.
For others, certification courses, seminars, job associations, on-the-job-trainning and reading will give you enough courage and expertise to start.

Apart from your area of expertise, what knowlege should you get?

Till tomorrow. Thanks.

Hi friends. I had wanted to limit PPP projects to BOT(build, operate and transfer), being the most common in Nigeria. However, it is important to know that seven variants of PPP exist. With this variance comes different laws and agreements.
In the course of generating PPP based business, I will inform us of the variant to use.

Where do we look to for PPP at the state level? My humble anwser is public utilities. What are utilities? Services provided for the public by government. Like what? Water, electricity, schools, roads, health facilities, motor parks and all its likes.

You would agree that we need massive improvement in our utilities. Have ever been pressed to use the toilet at a motor park, but behold, no such facility exist there? For the savvy investor, a business opportunity is beckoning at you.
In an urban place like Lagos can you count the number motor parks without toilet?

Let us meet tomorrow.
Thanks.

Good morning friends. Have you ever ask yourself how many professors we have on the Forbes list for the rich in Africa? Or are the first three on the list for Africa degree holders? Not honorary degrees bestowed on them.

In short, holding a degree is not a pre-requisite for business success. What knowledge do i then require for success?

A working knowledge of your area of expertise, marketing and sales skills , other business skills - record keeping, managing, purchasing, inventory control and customer relations among others.

Remember, it is a working knowledge you need. How and where can I get this working knowledge? This we would know tomorrow.
Thanks.

Please friends make another person's dream come true - send the link of this thread to as many people than can benefit from it.
CareerRe: The Hobby - Work Connection by keemax(op): 3:56pm On Jun 18, 2012
Hello people. @ oyb sorry for the delay in anwsering your question, it was an oversight.

You asked if food, sex, sleep and gaming are hobbies? Whatever you do for fun and/or relaxation is your hobby.

Talking about how to monetise your hobby is another ball game entirely. If people are ready to pay you for eating or performing any of your aforementioned hobbies, then go ahead - because it can be the breaking of the dawn for you.

My fellow country men - anything else to add?
Thanks.

Hello friends. I hope you went through the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission website. Do not forget that it is the FGN's tool for Public-Private Partnership projects at the federal level.

Before we go further on PPP,it is important we know the requirements expected of us if we intend to bid for any of these projects at all tiers of government.
You will require an evidence of tax payment, letter of business incorporation in Nigeria, statement of account showing millions of millions.
These are the minimum, variations may occur at the state or local government level.

Our focus will go to the state level tomorrow. We will adopt a different strategy that will allow us go for work even if there is no expression of interest on it.

Thanks.

Hi friends, I hope you all had a nice weekend. @oil cabal, I think kiyosaki1 have done justice to your inquiry. From experience I know it to be a lucrative business, however I would not fail to mention the human factor kiyosaki1 made mention of. That is the main problem.
So I implore you to come home for at least a month internship with any haulage
company - preferably a private one, and see the problems first hand;then write your business plan if still interested.

If you would eventually go into it,I strongly advice you not to entrust the business to anyone at it's onset.

Wish you luck.

Hello friends. I hope you had a nice weekend. Thanks Ayinde and netplus for your contribution. Positive contributions that will benefit all and sundry would be appreciated on the thread.

Now that we have discovered ourselves and have a work idea, what next? My humble suggestion will be to develop yourself and a framework called business plan. Why must you do this? To prepare yourself for the task ahead. In preparing for the task ahead we would go through;
Knowledge Acquisition.
Business plan development.

A work idea and good intentions don't make a good business;Knowing what you intend to do and having a strategy to achieve it puts you on the path of becoming a multimillion naira brand.

Thanks.

Hello friends. The FGN agency handling the regulation, promotion and building PPP framework for use is the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC). It is chaired by His Excellency E. Shonekan and other notable government personnel from the ministries invovled in infrastructure building and financing.

A link to the works' ministry, for available expression of interest is present on the icrc site. Some items to be bidded for are presently available on icrc site, to close by June 20.

Tinkle with the site over the weekend.

Good morning friends. Dangote is a multi billionaire brand whose name is scattered on different products. You can conveniently count 5 products of his on your fingertips.

Using him as our case study, the advice is to do a work that can provide income through many channels for you. It is the easiest way to accumulate wealth.

So if you provide a service as a consultant, it be well to add seminars/workshops and sales of information products as channels for income. Other ways include coaching, affiliate marketing, web application and its likes.
For service-oriented work, I recommend 'The millionaire messenger' by Brendan Burchard. A bit pricey though, but worth's every kobo.

For manufacturer of a device; sell it; provide after sale services and produce spare parts.

Sitting on a one income affair would make you only a 'thousandnaire' which is not your aim.

Thanks. Have a nice weekend.

Good day friends. Starting at the highest level of government - the federal government, PPP(public-private partnerships) projects are often advertised in the major newspapers. These projects are often bidded for.

The PPP projects at this level are often worth billions of dollar. These projects cut across construction of roads, bridges, dredging, mass housing, extractive industry and its likes.
It is not a terrain for small players with a few million of naira - that is the truth.

It is a good choice if you love Abuja, bureaucracy, have billions, the expertise and experience.

Which federal offices serve as sources of these projects? We will see them tomorrow.
Thanks.

Hello friends. Someone once said, that the education that will make you in life is the knowledge you acquire on your path to survival.
For anyone going into self-employment, your degree or the present knowledge of your hobby, is not enough for you to make it.
You have to acquire basic business skills - with emphasis on marketing, sales, business management, interpersonal relations and its likes.

Learning is a life-time career for the self-employed, at his/her own expense. However, some people fall into the trap of ever learning and never doing. I see it as fear in action.

What is your opinion on this? My challenge is still intact.
Thanks.

Thanks for keeping a date. I hope you did scrutinize your work choice, it is very important, so your work does not become obsolete with time; then you have to start all over again.

How do you scrutinize? You watch out for trends in your niche. Where can I watch out? Some places to look out for trend include online forums catering for your niche, trade associations and my favourite - www.google.com/alerts (easy to use tool for trend update on your niche).

The next question is, can I squeeze income through many channels from my work?
We will anwser it tomorrow.
Thanks.

Hi friends. Sorry for the break yesterday. I will appreciate we give ourselves break during holidays and weekends.

Is there any grey area in intellectual property you want us to revisit? I await such request.

Now that we have come to the end of IP business, our next business idea will be infrastructure development.
There is no gain saying that out dear country has a huge deficit in infrastructure.

For Nigeria to meet its MDGs, she needs to develop infrastructures critical to economic advancement - World Bank. All said, our present economy, due to concurrent budget deficit, cannot take up infrastructure development as it ought to be.
For this reason, the government has embark on public-private-partnership to solve the problem of lack of infrastructure. The partnership involves building, operating and maintaining infrastructures on agreed terms with the government.

We shall be looking into existing opportunities at the 3 tiers of governments, starting tomorrow.
Thanks.
CareerRe: The Hobby - Work Connection by keemax(op): 1:05pm On Jun 13, 2012
Good day friends. Today, I want us to understand the place of knowledge in the pursuit of our hobby as work.
Requirements change when going from an amateur to a pro; likewise when turning a hobby often used for relaxation or fun to a money paying venture. Expertise is required without excuse in work. Rules can be broken with hobby, but not with work.

For someone who intends to turn the hobby of writing into work - an in depth knowledge on how to write to communicate is of dire need.
For the writers in our midst, you will agree that the rules of written English are quite different from spoken English. So grammar, style and structure is of necessity.

In conclusion, a casual knowledge about your hobby is not enough to make you an expert on it.

What is your own stance on this?
My challenge of helping to make a work out of your hobby still stand.

Thanks.

Hello friends, I apologise for the break yesteday. Henceforth, I wish to give you a break during holidays and weekends. Thanks.

Another point to consider; will my work be relevant in the next 2 years, 5 years, 10 years and 20 years.
If you love to build diesel engine cars - are they the cars for the future? Why not look into biofuel or solar alternatives?

With the advent of computer, most work has gone obsolete. Someone wrote a thread not quite long on NL.

We will consider another point tomorrow.
Thanks.

Hope you all had a splendid weekend. Thanks for your presence.

Lawyers with bias for IP can effectively educate their fellow Nigerian diaspora and gain from being their lawyer to any IP agreement in Nigeria. It is just a matter of helping others to help yourself.

A Nigerian military doctor, some few years ago, took his kidney dialysis machine to USA. He registered the patent and a company took it up, the rest is now story. What does this story imply?
You could search for promising IP from 'notap', market it on behalf of the owners, for a fee abroad. This will invovle you filing the IP via a lawyer and looking for a suitable organization for it.

An independent IP advisory service combined with provision of valuable report needed for economic or research purposes. The report, may be on an annual basis, will be the point of reference for IP in Nigeria. The bloomberg type of thing. This is a very promising niche.

Please on a scale of 1-10, help rate this write up on intellectual property.
Thanks! Thanks!! Thanks!!!

Hello friends, hope you had a pleasant weekend. We will soon finish this phase and go on to learn how our dreams can come true.

By now you must have your work statement such as 'I love to build electric cars'. However the secret of making money is when it meets human need.
Any work that meets no need is merely a hobby. Nobody pays you for playing football with your friends.
Using my work example, the creation of employment solution will help people meet the need of what they can do for a living or financial empowerment.
What need does your work meet?

We will consider another important point tomorrow.
Thanks.
