Nairaland GeneralTwo Sao-tome Fishermen Rescued After Five Days In Atlantic Ocean by kellynelly(op): 1:11pm On Jul 04, 2023
Two fishermen from Neves in SaôTomē and Principe, who were reportedly lost in the Atlantic Ocean, have been rescued in the Brass Council Area of Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

The fishermen were identified as Antonio Sabino and Osorio Pires.

A trawler fishing in the Gulf of Guinea rescued the marooned duo after being lost at sea for five days and handed over to fishermen from Okpoama-Brass who took them ashore.

They were subsequently handed over to the Divisional Police Officer, Okpoama Division of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Ebimiesigha Bebetu.

According to the Chairman of the Okpoama Kingdom Security Committee, Chief Munalayefa William-Sinte, the disturbingly emaciated men were clothed and fed before they were handed over to the police for necessary action.

He said the Portuguese-speaking fishermen, who were unsettled because they were a long way from home, were communicating with sign language before they were handed over to the police, as it appears impossible to communicate with them because of the language constraint.

Confirming the incident, the Bayelsa State Police Command, said the Divisional Police Officer of Okpoama Division, Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, has taken custody of two fishermen who were rescued by a captain of a fishing trawler at 50 nautical miles off the Atlantic Ocean, on 2 July 2023.

The statement issued on Monday through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat, said: “The two fishermen, Antonio Sabino ‘m’ 52 years and Osorio Pires ‘m’ 41 years from Neves in SaôTomē and Principe got lost in the Atlantic Ocean for five days before being rescued by a Captain of a fishing trawler.”

The Police authorities have established contact with a coast guard officer from Saô Tomē and Principe and are making a concerted effort to reunite them with their families

Nairaland GeneralTwo People Killed And Others Injured In A Fresh Attack In Taraba State by kellynelly(op):
At least two persons have lost their lives after a fresh upheaval erupted in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba state.
Many locals have been reportedly injured while no fewer than five villages were razed by the riotous youths in the ongoing unrest, the police in the middle belt state has said.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the crisis in the council.
He described it as “gorilla welfare.”
The Wurkun and Karinjo ethnic groups of the council have been at daggers drawn over where the headquarters of the traditional stool of the area should be situated.
The command has blamed the ongoing attacks on the Karinjo community, adding that anti-riot policemen, soldiers, and other security operatives have been dispatched to the area.
He also said the Karinjo engaged mercenaries from the nearby Lau local government, a situation which led to the destruction of five villages belonging to the Wurkun.
The PPRO, who noted that the command is on top of the situation, said normalcy would soon return to the two communities and the council at large.
It would be recalled that a few days before the inauguration of the incumbent administration, over 13 persons were killed, and several houses burnt in the council.
The destruction and killings have left many people, the majority of whom were women and children, displaced.
A local, Seth Samuel Sule, who said many domestic animals were rustled, appealed to the government to wade into the crisis and deploy more security operatives to the beleaguered community.
The recent crisis, which began in the early hours of Saturday, was said to have led to the burning down of houses and destruction of property in Garin Marwa, Sarkin Kudu, Sallamin Kala, and Yashi Pena.
According to reports, fleeing persons from Karim-Lamido had sought refuge in nearby councils.

However, the man argued that he financially supported their household, claiming to shoulder the bills.

Nairaland GeneralPHOTOS: Sex Workers React As Fire Guts Osun Brothel Where ‘men Pay N1000 Per Cum by kellynelly(op):
One of the well-known brothels in Ilesa, an area of Osun, was completely destroyed by fire, making it a full-blown catastrophe. The brothel is fondly called ‘Adams’.
“Inside Osun Brothel Where Men Pay N1,000 Per Cum” where our reporter described the nightly activities at the brothel.

After getting off his motorcycle, the reporter noticed some individuals sitting in front of the private primary care facility that was just across from the brothel. The reporter carefully made his way to the brothel, stopping to stare at the burned-out structure and bemoan the fire’s extensive destruction to property.

The reporter got closer and saw the brothel in a very bad situation as sympathizers consoled the sex workers who live there after losing their properties. Astonished with the brutality of fire, sympathizers cringed and were presumably baffled as to how these sex workers would survive.

The entire structure had been completely destroyed by fire, from the front to the back. As of the time this report was submitted, certain rooms continued to be filled with heavy smoke but minimal flames.

The only parts of the brothel that were still standing were those made of cement; all of the wooden parts had been destroyed, and there were a lot of ‘burnt’ roofing sheets scattered throughout the area.

All of her possessions, including her funds, were in her room when the fire broke out, said Chioma, a 26-year-old sex worker who only went by the name.

I traveled from Ebonyi state to Ilesa. I brought some belongings and some clothing. I’m leaving Ilesa without anything. Chioma continued, dejectedly, “This is very sad.”

When asked about the cause of the fire, Chioma responded that no one could pinpoint the exact cause, but that it was probably due to an electricity surge that was facilitated by the presence of foams, woods, and garment materials in the building.

A fairly dejected Chioma said, “It would have been worse if other buildings were affected, but the quick response of neighbors and fire service men who had to rush down to the scene from another location prevented its escalation.”

Blessing, a different sex worker, claimed to have been summoned by friends and was not there at the scene of the incident.

When I received the awful news over the phone, I almost passed out. Blessing said, “I was giving myself false hope that it would be quenched, but when I saw the extent of the damage, I was completely dazed.”

Blessing informed the reporter that she had lost everything to fire and would be leaving for Edo very early the next day to reunite with her family.

Blessing claims that many girls would be forced to stay in the town and work for a while since they have no dime.

The reporter was unable to talk to any other sex workers since some of them were sobbing uncontrollably over their losses and others were stunned by the extent of the property destruction.

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) Students’ Union Government (SUG) Vice President, Miss Idemudia Osasogie Divine, has left the University community in shock following her sudden resignation from office on Monday.

In her resignation letter obtained by METROWATCH, Divine said she and her team have failed the students who elected them into office, asking that the students should remain resolute, courageous and determined in their future bid.

Though she did not specifically state the resign behind her decision to quit office as the number two student of UNIBEN, her resignation, however, came amid the saga from the recent increment of school fees by the UNIBEN management.

In the erstwhile Vice President’s resignation letter, Miss Divine admonished the students to be resolute in electing future student leaders who will not betray their interests but represent them well in their various capacities.

She exonerated the University management from the school fee hike saga, saying elected student leaders are to be blamed, even as she insisted that the Union she was hitherto the Vice President have failed the students who elected them into office.

Meanwhile, the decision of Divine to quit office as Vice President has been met with mixed feelings from students. While some commended her for taking the bold step as Nigerians hardly resign, others are demanding to know what really transpired.
