The co-founder of OceanGate has hit back at Titanic director James Cameron, claiming he 'knows nothing' about the company and its submersible program.

Cameron 'is a very experienced ocean explorer and a sub guy himself, but knows nothing about Ocean Gate and that stuff,' ​Guillermo Söhnlein, a 58-year-old Argentine-American entrepreneur, told Insider.

Cameron, 68, who has made more than 30 deep sea dives to the Titanic wreck, has criticized Ocean Gate and its lack of safety procedures for the Titan sub - which disappeared on June 18, imploded, and killed all five members of its crew.

Lockridge was fired as Ocean Gate's director of marine operations after raising concerns over a lack of non-destructive testing performed on the hull of the Titan.'

Submersible expert Stanley also spoke out after the disaster, explaining that he had ridden in the Titan during a test trip in the Bahamas in 2019 and was concerned about its safety.

'Stockton was designing a mouse trap for billionaires,' he said. But Söhnlein has remained loyal and dismissed the criticism as a 'vocal minority.'

'Over 15 years that company's probably employed like 200 and has dived dozens of people. And you're only hearing from four people,' he told Insider.

'Common sense seems to indicate these must be the vocal minority because there are a lot of other people that aren't speaking up who disagree with those four,' he added.

He also defended Stockton's decision to use carbon fiber for the sub's hull telling the publication: 'The world only had one foremost expert on using carbon fiber to go in the deep oceans and he's gone now.'

Rush died in the disaster, along with British billionaire Hamish Harding, 58; French Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77; and British-Pakistani father and son Shahzada Dawood, 48, and Suleman Dawood, 19.

Cameron, who is a celebrated deep sea explorer as well as famed director, has previously said that the Titan's carbon fiber design was widely seen within the deep sea exploration community as being unsafe.

Söhnlein previously rejected Cameron's opinion telling Times Radio, 'One of the things Mr. Cameron said which was correct is that the deep sea exploration community is very small.

'We all know each other. I think in general we all respect each other.

'But as you would expect in this kind of community there are completely different opinions about how to do things - how to design submersibles, how to engineer them, how to operate in the dives.

'But one thing that's true of me, and every other expert that has been talking, is that none of us were involved in the design, engineering, or even testing of the subs.

'So it's impossible for anyone to speculate from the outside.'

Söhnlein said Cameron and others were wrong in calling Ocean Gate reckless.

'I was involved in the early phases of the overall development program, during our predecessor subs to Titan.

'And I know, from first-hand experience, that we were extremely committed to safety, and risk mitigation was a key part of the company culture.'

Yet Cameron has said there were several 'potential failure points' in the doomed Titan submersible - and a warning system probably alerted the five crew who perished shortly before the vessel imploded.

Cameron said the Titan had 'three potential failure points' and indicated that its 'Achilles heel' was the carbon fiber cylinder.

He added that the hull was broken into 'very small pieces' after Titan imploded when the hull fractured because of the pressure.

A warning system probably sounded an alert and the crew tried to ascend in the moment before the implosion, he added.

The Anambra State Police Command has officially verified the tragic incident that occurred in Nkwele Ezunaka, Onitsha, where a family of six, along with an apprentice, lost their lives in their new residence due to inhaling poisonous fumes from a generator. The heartbreaking event took place on Wednesday.

The unfortunate family consisted of a man, his wife, their two children, and the wife's mother. The man had recently surprised his wife with a new house after she gave birth to their baby. Eager to celebrate this joyous occasion, the family moved into the new home. Tragically, it turned out to be their first and last night in the new residence.

According to sources in the area, during the celebration, there was a power outage, prompting the man to switch on the generator located on the verandah close to their bedroom. As the night went on, they all fell asleep, forgetting to turn off the generator. The next morning, a friend who was meant to join the celebration found the house locked and the generator still running.

Alarmed by the situation, the friend called for help, and together with other neighbors, they forced their way into the house. Inside, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the family members and the apprentice. Tragically, only the four-day-old baby survived.

Efforts were made to save the wife and one of the daughters, who were found unconscious and rushed to St. Charles Borromeo Hospital in Onitsha. However, despite attempts to resuscitate them, including administering oxygen, they could not be revived, and they succumbed to the poisonous fumes.

The deceased man, known as Ifeanyi, was a trader at the Onitsha Bridge Head Market and hailed from Enugu State.

The Manager of St. Charles Borromeo Hospital, Rev. Fr. Izunna Okonkwo, confirmed that only the newborn baby survived the tragic incident.

The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that investigations into the cause of the tragedy are ongoing, and further details will be provided once the investigation is concluded.

Nigerian skit maker, Abdullahi Maruff Adisa, popularly called Trinity Guy, has regained freedom from prison. Earlier reported that the police invited the skit maker in connection with a prank video that involved a minor.

Thereafter, a Family Court sitting at Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, ordered his remand to Agodi correctional facility.

It also arraigned and remanded Isiaka Ahmed, 40, and his wife, Rofiat, 29, who are parents of the victim on two-count charges of conspiracy and sexual abuse and exploitation alongside the skit maker.

Disclosing his release on Friday night, a fellow skit maker, Abdugalfar Abiola, popularly known as Cute Abiola, announced on his Instagram page that Trinity Guy has been released on bail.

Eko Bridge to undergo urgent repairs,

The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Alaka-Costain-Iganmu section of the Eko Bridge (inward Island) for a duration of 40 days.

The closure is set to commence on Sunday, July 23, 2023, as stated by Olukorede Keisha, the federal controller of works in Lagos State, on behalf of the permanent secretary of the federal ministry of works & housing.

The reason behind this decision is the identification of damage to critical components of the bridge that require immediate attention. Authorities are concerned that delaying the necessary repairs and replacement of these damaged parts could pose a risk to the overall integrity and structural stability of the entire bridge.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Keisha had previously announced the planned closures during the inauguration of the Apongbon section of the Bridge, stating that these closures would take place as maintenance work progressed.

The responsibility for conducting the essential repairs within the specified timeframe has been assigned to Messrs Buildwell Plants & Equipment Ind. Ltd, the appointed contractor.

Keisha emphasized that the closure is necessary to ensure the safety of all road users and to maintain the functionality of the Eko Bridge. The Federal Government and relevant stakeholders express their gratitude to the public for their continued cooperation and understanding during this crucial infrastructure maintenance period.

The statement read: “This is as a result of the damage noticed on some of the bridge members which needed to be urgently worked upon.

“It should be noted that any further delay in the repairs and replacement of some of these bridge members could undermine the integrity and structural stability of the entire bridge and the consequence of this can be better imagined.

“It should however be noted that the Lagos State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Federal Controller Of Works, Engr. (Mrs.) Olukorede Kesha during the opening of the Apongbon section of the Bridge announced that intermittent closures will be carried out as the maintenance work progresses.

“This closure is to allow the Contractor, Messrs Build well Plants & Equipment Industry Ltd carry out the necessary repairs with the aim of restoring the integrity of the bridge during the stipulated time frame.

“While the service lane leading to Iponri will be available, some alternative routes are also provided for motorists plying the route from Western Avenue and its environs.

“Motorists are advised to cooperate with the Traffic-Management Team deployed on the highway to manage traffic.”

Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie has shed light on the reason for dragging her fellow actresses, Uche Elendu, Anita Joseph, and others.

Taking to her Instagram page, she posted a video in which she explained that her moves were a defensive response to their actions against her.

The actress clarified that she is not one to engage in dragging people unnecessarily, but when circumstances demand it, she feels compelled to stand up for herself.

Angela recounted a distressing incident when Uche Elendu visited her at her home after she got shot.

Instead of offering support, Uche filmed the scene as Angela underwent the painful process of having gun pallets removed from her body with a razor blade. To add to the betrayal, Uche subsequently sent these videos to bloggers.

In her words:

“Everybody knows that I don’t drag people but if the lies keep coming up I will have to defend myself.

When I was shot Uche Elendu came to my house and videoed me while they were cutting my face with a razor blade and removing the pellets from the gunshot”.

President Tinubu has the mandate of Nigerians and will function in that capacity as required by the Constitution.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that if Bola Tinubu’s declaration as president is invalidated, Nigerians will take to the streets in joy.

However, the ruling party quickly responded, claiming that the PDP was hallucinating and that President Tinubu has the mandate of Nigerians and will function in that capacity as required by the Constitution.

Pedro Obaseki, the PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Director of Strategy and Research, spoke to the press ahead of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) judgment and expressed confidence in the judiciary’s ability to deliver a fair judgment that will be acceptable to the parties involved.

He also stated that because of the mounting evidence in their possession, the tribunal judges would muster the courage to address the issues raised, adding that the country’s image is at stake, which he stated the judges would not take lightly.

Obaseki, a lawyer, specifically mentioned the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) petition seeking to overturn President Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima’s victory in the 2023 election, noting that the “issue of eligibility is key.”

He said:

There is still a watershed moment and that moment might just be provided by the Allied Peoples Movement petition in this election.

That does not in any way discontinue the other mounting evidence. We were here when the election took place, we were here when the election was declared and we are still waiting for those that want to celebrate, they have not celebrated.

You may be shocked that immediately there is a judgment that does not validate the supposed election of President Tinubu, people will run into the streets to celebrate; that is the truth.

Responding, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Barrister Felix Moka said:

A woman addicted to eating toilet paper has revealed that she consumes up to four rolls a day, spending nearly $2,700 annually on her unusual habit.

The woman, identified simply as Kinah, made this revelation in a video featured on TLC’s My Strange Addiction: Still Addicted?, which airs on Wednesdays.

“I eat toilet paper from the second I get up in the morning,” Kinah said,

According to TLC, over the past 20 years, Kinah has ingested approximately 14,000 lbs of toilet paper, enjoying her peculiar snack everywhere – at work, in the car, and even at the nail salon.

Though she faces weird stares and some people try to record her actions, Kinah remains unfazed by the criticism.

Her ex-fiancé, Anthony, disapproves of her habit, pointing out that toilet paper is not meant for human consumption and doesn’t break down in the body.

However, Kinah remains undeterred, claiming that the taste and texture of the paper make her mouth water

A preview of the documentary shows her munching on toilet paper while at a nail salon, leaving the shop owner, Flora bewildered and questioning her behavior.

The Police Command in Cross River has arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on Wednesday.

She said that the suspect attacked the victim, simply identified as Ndereke, after a minor disagreement that occurred at Abasi Obori Street on Tuesday.

Ugbo said the personnel of Uwanse Divisional Police Headquarters carried out the arrest on arriving at the scene, following a distress call received on the incident.

“The police rushed the victim to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH). Unfortunately, she didn’t make it, as she was certified dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.

“Following established protocols, her remains were deposited in the morgue for autopsy, to shed more light on the exact cause of her death.

“The suspect is already in our custody and we will ensure that he faces the full weight of justice for his alleged action,” the police spokesperson said.

In other news, a Nigerian man identified as Abiodun Victor Olawunmi reportedly lost his life while in the custody of the South African Police Service in Johannesburg.

The details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but the incident has sparked outrage within the Nigerian community residing in South Africa.

According to a post made by Edward Sunday, a Nigerian resident of Sandton, Gauteng, who hails from Oyo State, Olawunmi was said to have been suffocated by the South African police.

The two daughters say he has impregnated them many times and forced them to abort it.

The police in Nigeria’s federal capital territory have apprehended a 46-year-old man, identified as Jude, for having the carnal knowledge of his two daughters and impregnating them in the process.

The incident happened in the Ikwa community, Zuba Chiefdom, in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

The accused reportedly has four kids; two females and two males.

According to a neighbor, identified as Idris, the incident came to public knowledge after one of the daughters reported the matter to her fiancé who was a police officer in Minna, Niger State.

He further disclosed that before the arrest, the accused conspired with his wife to abort the pregnancies and sweep the matter under the carpet.

He added, “In fact, when the man was taken to the police station, his wife was trying to cover up the matter, but her daughters opened up and told them how their father had been sleeping with them and how they aborted their pregnancies.’’

A police officer at the division who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect would be charged to court.

The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, has not stated the incident.

Dr. Bolanle Aseyan from Kabba in Kogi State, an alumnus of LASUTH.

In 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, she pressured Dr Olufunmilayo to arrange for her to come over to the UK.

He agreed since he loved her. She started applying for VISA and was eventually granted. Dr. Olufunmilayo paid for the flight. They met. She lived in his house for months. They had consensual sex several times. She paid no bills. Feeding,

accommodation, light, water, wifi heating, everything was paid for by Dr Olufunmilayo.

Somewhere along the line, the relationship went sour. She displayed a character Dr Olufunmilayo could not put up with in a life partner and he decided to call off the relationship.

The first thing Dr. Bola Aseyan did was run to the UK Metropolitan Police to accuse him of rape and domestic violence. Dr Olufunmilayo was arrested and the matter was alacritous investigated but found to be false.

Embittered and feeling defeated, Dr Bola Aseyan moved straight to the UK General Medical Council,

intending to have his license withdrawn and he was deported. The GMC accepted the case and passed it to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS).

MPTS has been sitting on it since 2020.

Today 19th July 2023, MPTS has finally proven Dr. Olufunmilayo innocent of all accusations and fully fit to practice.

This might seem like victory but it can’t be called victory until the false accuser Dr Bola Aseyan faces punishment for false accusation and attempted destruction of a man’s life.

Another victim also accused the pastor of fraud.

One Adebolu Olulusi, a pastor, has been apprehended over alleged fraud.

The 43-year-old pastor was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Ondo State Command.

He was said to have been arrested over allegations that he swindled one Taiwo Opesanmi of N1.2 million.

Between 2019 and 2020, the suspect reportedly collected various amounts of money from Opesanmi.

He had promised her that he would help her to secure a job at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

After receiving the funds, he went incommunicado as he was accused of shutting off all communication with the victim and could not be found at his residence, No. 1, Ore Ofe, Irese Road, in Akure, the state capital.

The Public Relations Officer of Command, Daniel Aidamenbor, stated that Opesanmi had encountered the pastor at a prayer mountain in Ijoka, Akure, where they met.

Aidamenbor explained that the Counter Terrorism Unit of the NSCDC, in collaboration with a commercial bank, successfully tracked down and apprehended the suspect, after obtaining a court order.

He said: “At the point of the investigation, another victim of the Pastor also accused him of selling land to her using a fake deed of gift for N800,000.

“She had to pay another N1 million to the rightful owner of the land since she already had a structure on it.”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has again hiked pump prices of Petrol, known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from 537 to 617 naira Per Liter

According to NNPC filling station in the Central area of Abuja has adjusted its fuel price from N539 to N617 per liter.

“It is true, I just bought at N617 per liter,” the media outlet quoted a customer as saying

Recall that independent oil marketers had recently projected that fuel prices will hit N700 per liter soon.

The Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NDMPRA) is yet to comment on the development.

The latest hike in petrol prices is coming at a time citizens are still grappling with the hardship and pains occasioned by the initial removal of subsidy on petrol.

Umar, hailing from Yola South LGA, ingested the toxic substance known as Otapiapia while appearing in court at the Upper Area Court I in Yola. He was brought before the court following a criminal complaint filed by his friend, Mustapha Baraya, concerning the outstanding debt.

Earlier this year, on February 13, Umar’s friend from the same community lodged a lawsuit against him, accusing him of “criminal misappropriation and breach of trust.”

According to the case history, Baraya had provided Umar with a sum of N1.9 million for operating a POS business. However, Umar allegedly misappropriated the funds and only returned N150,000.

Despite the complainant’s attempts to recover the remaining balance of N1.760 million, Umar and his father continuously deceived him even after the court had issued a judgment.

The court had previously ordered Umar to refund the money within one month but he failed to comply.

During the proceedings, Umar and his father claimed to have a rice farm that was ready for harvest, promising to refund the money after the harvest. However, they secretly harvested the crop without repaying the debt.

In response, the court issued an order for the disposal of Umar’s house, which was originally given to him by his father.

Evidently discontented with the court’s decision, Usman arrived at the court hearing on Monday with a bottle of Otapiapia.

He entered the chamber of Judge Hon. Shehu Mustapha and consumed the substance, leading to immediate vomiting, loss of consciousness, and subsequent hospitalization.

The Nigeria Customs Service’s Kwara State Command reported a total revenue of N6, 246, 485,827.97 at the end of the second quarter of 2023.

Kehinde Dehinde Ilesanmi, Area Comptroller, stated this on Friday while speaking with journalists about its April to June 2023 scorecard.

He stated that the amount represents 9.14% of the revenue increase over the previous year 2022.

The results of our anti-smuggling activities coupled with the Command’s renewed drive in utilization of cutting-edge strategies had led to Fifty-Six (56) seizures of different items with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Forty-Eight Million Eight Hundred and Twenty-Two Thousand Four Hundred Naira (N48,822,400.00.

He stated that the items seized included ‘9 units of used vehicles of various types, 813 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each), which is more than a truckload of rice, 24,950 liters of petroleum product in 998 Jeri cans (almost a trailer load) and 14 kegs of vegetable oil of 25 liters’.

He urged Nigerians to assist the Command by providing credible information that will aid in the fight against nip smuggling in the state.

He also warned economic saboteurs to stay away from Kwara Area Command and engage in meaningful ventures or face their doom.

He claimed that the removal of fuel subsidies by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu significantly reduced the smuggling of other commodities.

According to the customs area comptroller, the seized items, which included 14 kegs of 25 liters of vegetable oil, were seized at various border locations in the state, including Okuta, Chikanda, and Bukuru.

He said;

The smuggling of PMS and other commodities has drastically reduced because of subsidy removal. The capacity of smugglers to purchase and transport fuel now has been reduced just as it has affected fuel consumers.

Immediately after the removal of the subsidy by Nigeria, we heard of demonstrations in our neighboring countries.

Reconciling the situation in our borders after the announcement of the policy, smuggling has drastically reduced especially of petroleum products. But smugglers will not relent.

Police apprehend three suspects involved in the fatal beating of University of Ibadan first-class graduate,

Opuofoni Freeborn Ebimotimi, a first-class graduate of Business Administration from the University of Ibadan, was fatally beaten by a mob in Bayelsa State after being accused of allegedly stealing bread.

According to reports from Peoples 93.1 FM in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, Ebimotimi, a native of the Korokorosei community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government area, allegedly stole bread from a local business owner within the community.

Upon discovery of the alleged theft, an alarm was raised, which swiftly attracted an angry mob to confront Ebimotimi. Despite the pleas from witnesses, including his younger sister Idisemi Opuofoni Freeborn, who vouched to reimburse double the value of the stolen bread, the agitated crowd refused to show mercy and tragically ended his life.

Idisemi expressed the hardships her family had endured since the passing of their father, citing hunger as a factor that compelled Ebimotimi to resort to stealing bread.

The Bayelsa State Police Command in a release on Tuesday said three suspects had been arrested and an investigation was ongoing.

“The Bayelsa State Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the mob action by the unruly crowd which led to the death of Ebimotimi Freeborn ‘m’ 32 years.

“The suspects; Preye Mathew ‘f’ 50 years, Theophilus Tiro ‘m’ 28 years, and Famous Precious ‘m’ 22 years were arrested on 9 July 2023 at about 1700 hours at Tombia- Amassoma road after an angry mob lynched the suspect to death for allegedly stealing bread.

“The Command condemned the action of the mob and warned members of the public to desist from taking the laws into their own hands. The suspects are undergoing interrogation and would be charged to court after the investigation,” SP Asinim Butswat, the Police Public Relations Officer, said.

The Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday, confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old man, Kehinde Asimiyu, for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old student at the Government Technical College, Ado Soba, in the Trade Fair area of the state.

It was gathered that the minor was on her way to school when Asimiyu accosted her around 6am and forced her into his apartment against the minor’s will.

While in the apartment, it was learnt that Asimiyu allegedly defiled the girl and thereafter, released her.

It was learnt that when the minor got to school, she reported the incident to her principal who informed the police that arrested Asimiyu.

He said, “On July 11, 2023, around 6am at the Trade Fair area, one Kehinde Asimiyu, 23, accosted and dragged to his apartment, a 16-year-old student at the Government Technical College, Ado Soba.

“The victim was on her way to school when Asimiyu captured and forcefully defiled her in his room. The principal of the school, when this was discovered, reported the case at the Trade Fair Police Division.”

According to Hundeyin, a team of detectives was deployed to the location the moment the case was reported to the division and the perpetrator was apprehended.

“The suspect was arrested, and on interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. The victim has been taken to the hospital for treatment and medical report,” he said.

He, however, said an investigation was ongoing and once concluded, the suspect would be transferred to the appropriate division for possible prosecution.

A Nigerian man name withheld has begun a 100-hour crying marathon in an attempt to set a new world record.

The current record for the longest crying marathon was set in 2003, by a two-year-old girl named Laney Brown who set the unofficial record for crying when she had a 74-minute long crying fit. Her mother recorded the event and it eventually went viral.

In 2006, an Ohio State University freshman named John Cregler also became well known for his exceptionally long bouts of crying. He would sometimes cry for hours on end and claimed to have broken the record of Laney Brown, but it was accredited by Guinness book of record .

The Nigerian with his name withheld is a 35-year-old man from Lagos, Nigeria. He says that he began crying for long periods of time as a child, and that he has been crying for more than 10 hours a day ever since. He explains that he cries because he is "emotionally sensitive" and that he "feels everything deeply."

The Man is being supported by his family and friends in his attempt to set a new world record. They are providing him with food, water, and emotional support. They are also monitoring his health to make sure that he does not get dehydrated or overtired.

Three school pupils in Yola, Adamawa State, have been killed after a fire engulfed their room.

The deceased were pupils of an Islamic school, better known as almajirai.

The incident was caused by a fire ignited by a burning mosquito repellent coil on the premises of their school at Sabon Pegi, a community in the Yola South Local Government Area.

It was gathered on Monday that the incident occurred on the night of Friday, July 7.

The owner of the school, Malam Abubakar Usman, confirmed the unfortunate incident.

He stated that the pupils died due to the fire from the mosquito repellent which engulfed their room.

According to him, two of the pupils, Ismaila Muhammadu who was 12 years old, and Yusuf Abubakar who was 13, died instantly, while 17-year-old Mustapha Ahmadu died on Saturday morning while on hospital admission.

Giving his account of the deadly fire, Ismaila Mohammed said, “It was around 11 pm (on Friday) when we had already gone to bed, and one of the kids came crying.

“We rushed to see that one of the huts was on fire and we decided to put out the fire; that was when we saw two dead almajirai in the burnt hut.”

Senator Ahmad Yerima on Friday said the 14-year-old Egyptian girl he tied the nuptial knot with 13 years ago has come of age.

This is as he defended his marriage to the minor, which sparked outrage within and outside Nigeria at the time, especially from human rights groups, when the news came to public knowledge.

The outrage prompted a Senate probe — as a sitting senator at the time.

However, Yerima who appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said he did not break any law by marrying the Egyptian girl, a minor at the time, as the states in the north did not pass the child right act into law.

he also revealed that his bride was older and was in the process of obtaining a master’s degree.

He, however, objected to her being 13, stating that she was “Around that age: 14, 15.”

Yerima criticized the Child Rights Act (2003) and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (2015), saying whatever act is passed at the National Assembly has to be domesticated by the state assemblies.

“And once they have not done that, it’s no longer a law,” he added.

The former governor alleged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo “tried to smuggle the Child Rights Act”.

“He passed it at the National Assembly through some manipulations but I don’t think any state in the North domesticated it and passed it,” Yerima said.

Asked to share his views on whether children deserve the right to education and other freedoms enshrined in the Child Rights Act, he argued that marriage could not stop education.

Yerima also noted that his daughter whom he had given away in marriage at the age of 16 “is doing her PhD in London”.

On the claim that he paid $100,000 as dowry for the Egyptian girl’s hand in marriage, the former Zamfara governor noted that “it’s not dowry.”

He explained further that “all other things” stipulated as conditions for the marriage were counted to arrive at that figure.

“Provision of the house, provision of dowry, the dresses that she has to wear, everything [in] total,” he said. “At that time, it was just N15 million.”

One can give as much as is requested of them in marriage by Sharia Law, Yerima disclosed.

“Whatever you have to do in marriage is clearly stipulated under the Sharia Law. You have to provide for a house for the girl, if you’re marrying her, like, from the condition the Egyptian government’s law provides,” he said.

The Gunmen enforcing sit-at-home in the South East have continued to wreak havoc in the region.

The gunmen on Friday night burnt part of Amaraku market located in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo state.

They also set fire to vehicles and goods and services belonging to the traders, who are mostly women.

The fleeing gunmen also burnt vehicles in the Obolo community, Isiala Mbano LGA.

The assailant were said to be angry with the traders and transporters for disobeying the sit-at-home order.

One of the eyewitnesses, who does not want to be mentioned said, “On arrival, they said that the traders had the guts to disobey the sit-at-home order. They said if the traders have the courage they should come out tomorrow (today). They went on to raze part of the markets and the commercial vehicles around.

“On their way going, they shot indiscriminately and burnt vehicles at the Obolo community in the same Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo state. This is very unfortunate. Millions of naira belonging to poor businesswomen and low-income earners have been destroyed. This thing is getting out of hand.

She claimed that she is pregnant for Davido and cleaning the house waiting for the singer to come home.

The panel of inquiry set up by the Anambra State Government has confirmed that Mmesoma Ejikeme manipulated her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination result, where she scored 249 as against 362.

The eight-page report of the panel also recommended that Mmesoma immediately tender an unreserved written apology to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, the school (Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, Uruagu Nnewi), and the state government and should undergo psychological counseling and therapy.

The eight-member panel had been set up by the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Wednesday to investigate the ongoing controversy between the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and Mmesoma, whose UTME result has come under controversy, with the mandate of making its findings public.

Mmesoma, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, had sat for the UTME in May and came under scrutiny for parading the “highest score” of 362, which JAMB later revealed was manipulated.

The panel report, also circulating online, was addressed to the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and made available by the Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu on Friday.

The panel said it conducted interviews with relevant parties, including Mmesoma, JAMB officials, and other individual(s) involved in the process as well as the principal of Anglican Girls Secondary School.

According to the panel, Mmesoma had sent a request to JAMB with a different registration number showing a UTME result of an aggregate score of 362, with Eng: 98, Phy: 89, Bio: 94, and Che: 81 which differed substantially from the standard JAMB format where she got an appropriate rebuttal stating her real score of 249.

The panel indicated in its findings that “the results released by the JAMB concerning the UTME score of Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma is 249.

“The result paraded by Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma with an aggregate score of 362 is fake as buttressed by the very significant and instructive variations in the registration number, date of birth, center name, and other infractions.

“Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma admitted that she manipulated the fake results herself, using her phone.

“The Principal, Anglican Girls’ Secondary School — Mrs. Edu Uche, and the Education Secretary, Diocese of Nnewi (Anglican Communion) expressed dismay at the conduct of Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma.”

The report, titled, “Report of the committee on Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma’s JAMB score controversy” also indicated that the candidate was well informed of her correct score of 249.

The Lagos State Police Command has opened an investigation into a cult clash that left no less than three people dead near Lady Lak in the state’s Bariga region.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Thursday.

He said, “No arrest has been made yet. The law only says cult groups, and that’s all we need to convict them in court. But they are cultists, it is confirmed.”

The cult clash that caused unrest late on Wednesday, locals and workers returning home were startled into a panic.

According to a report, newsmen saw the bodies of three unidentified men lying in a pool of blood in a video clip shared by a source in the area, two of the victims’ heads being lacerated.

In the video clip, nearby residents can be seen turning the dead victims’ corpses to identify them.

“Oh Idris, Serre get up,” the residents said as they were seen shedding tears and lamenting over the development.

Commenting on the incident, a source in the area said, “Shootings were heard in the area. Some people got injured. Nobody can say why they were fighting but the area is a cultists’ den.”

A resident in the community, James Taiwo, said three people were killed in the attack involving cult members in the community.

His chat on Twitter read, “Yesterday’s clash resulted in the death of three cult members, one is a guy known as Sere, who’s also a Yahoo boy but quite friendly and popular.

“The clash is a continuation of the power tussle which resulted in the death of one member of the Aiye Confraternity when they came to attend a birthday party outside their territory.

“Even though they took a big risk attending the party outside their territory, it wasn’t members of the Eiye who attacked them, but members of their own Aiye cult group, after an argument ensued on leadership matters. The two factions are from the Idi Aba and Ogundola factions.”

“Many lives were lost in the ongoing war in Lagos State. This happened over the night in Bariga, another hideout for cultists and criminals. I charge at @jidesanwoolu to beef up the security in Lagos.

Ronke Oshodi has expressed regret for working with the APC party, citing their denial of killing people during the #EndSARS protests.

She made the statement in an interview with chude ,were she said she was paid but did not collect much and was devastated when the All Progressive Party did not keep to their promise and kept lying about the killings in lekki toll gate .

She said that she believed the party would change Nigeria, but she is now disappointed in their actions. She has called on the party to be more transparent and accountable, and to stop denying the killings that took place.

The APC party has denied the allegations of killing protesters, and has said that they are committed to upholding the rule of law. However, there is evidence to suggest that the party may have been involved in the killings, and Oshodi's allegations should be taken seriously.

Sani Salihu, a 45-year-old man from Adamawa State, was charged with having forced anal sex with a 14-year-old boy in court in the state’s capital, Yola.

Salihu of Jippu Jam in Yola South Local Government Area lured the boy into a nearby bush, threatened him with a pair of scissors, and abused him sexually, according to the Chief Magistrate Court I, presided over by Magistrate Alheri Ishaku Salihu.

The defendant, who was charged with an ‘unnatural offense’ under Section 263 of the penal code, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate adjourned the case to 20th July 2023, for further mention, and asked that the defendant be remanded.

The order followed an application by the prosecutor to enable him to duplicate the case file and transmit it to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

In a related development, the Magistrate Court has summarily convicted and sentenced Sani Salihu to two years imprisonment for a different offense.

He was handed the jail term and given the option of an N100,000 fine after he was convicted for the offense of resistance to his lawful arrest over his initial alleged offense.

He was accused of attempting to escape while being taken to Yolde Pate Correctional Centre by Inspector Ahmed Mohammed of the CID on July 3, 2023, when he was first arraigned in court.

Inspector Zakka Musa told the court that the convict jumped out of the tricycle in which he was being conveyed at Yolde Pate and attempted to escape but he was re-arrested by the officer after a long pursuit.
