Today, I was at a road junction at Tombia,yenagoa when I saw a rough looking man dressed in a tattered attire walking towards me. This is a mad man I thought as he approached. Just as I was about to give way for him to pass by, he turned to me with a grim on his face saying, “The ikoyi money is mine. Tell Buhari it is mine. EFCC should give me my money, my dollars and naira”. You bet I was speechless.

I would like to talk about something that is hot in Nigeria and it is the Ponzi scheme that has made so much noise all over the world especially in Nigeria in recent times. There are now hundreds of Ponzi schemes springing up daily gaining popularity among youths. The thing is that people want more money even as they realize the value of their currency is falling every day and this has driven to quick money schemes without creating value.

Ponzi was started by Charles Ponzi in the 1920s. He deceived thousands of people to invest in postage stamp scheme telling them that he was investing it for them and giving them quick returns of 50%. In our society, the youths have become endangered species. Many dreams of our youths die before they have the chance to have expression. Many are led to live false lives shaped for them by corrupt and wicked men who seek to pollute and destroy our youths in the pursuit of greedy gains.
Most of our youths are misguided, possessing wrong values passed to them by misguided elders so-called. Does the future of our youth mean anything to anyone? There are several youth programs spearheaded by NGOs, government and other such entities but yet it’s almost impossible not to sight the monster of politics and greedy gain especially in Africa.
Our youths are killed daily, sent on suicide missions, destitute, orphans, forgotten by society and yet the world says the youth are the future. It is worthy to note that a lot has been done by a few organizations and governments to help our youths but the gap is extremely wide.
We at Hoope Alive stand up for the youths of the world and voice out;
Saying No; saying Enough is Enough.
Enough of the killings and burning out of our youths.
Enough of the misguided and failure-sure orientation being fed to our youths.
Enough of the politics being played by the elders that daily sabotage our youth’s dreams.
Enough of seeing our youths lost, forgotten, hopeless, roaming our streets without direction without being able to achieve their dreams.
A society or state where the youths cannot achieve their dreams is a failed society or state.
