ANWUKAH MINISTERIAL NOMINATION--THE FIZZLING AWAY OF THE WHEELBARROW MEN---Kelvin Nwaka

The pushing of a wheelbarrow by any means does not require special skills or imagination. It is not a rocket science and therefore so simple that almost anybody including nursery school children can move it from one point to another. The story is however not same when you compare it with other machines such as bicycle or tricycle. If you are to ride a bicycle for instance, you must spent alot of time mastering how to climb it.

Those who have gone to the Senate with petition, requesting for the disqualification of the presidential nomination of Prof Anthony Anwukah as a Minister of Federal Republic must have not done their homework very well. They were so unprofessional, pedestrian and petty in their prayers to the Senate such that it was not too difficult to liken them to the wheelbarrow men.

The embattled Senator Representing Imo North, Mr. Nneji Achonu Athanasius whose election victory was recently dismissed at the tribunal had earlier in the week presented to the Leadership of Senate a petition in which he had prayed for the disqualification of Professor Anthony Anwukah as Minister. In his submissions, Mr. Nneji had alleged that:

1) Prof. Anthony Anwukah was indicted towards the end of his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University and therefore should be disqualify to hold the exalted position;

2) That he( Prof A.G Anwukah) rejected a 406 Prestige saloon car which he was meant to collect at the end of his tenure but instead went home with a bus--notwithstanding that the bus was of a lesser monetary value;

3) That he (Prof A.G Anwukah) awarded a contract of Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N800,000) without the approval of the university authority and;

4) That he (Prof A.G Anwuka) has an In-lawship relationship with the incumbent Governor of Imo state and as such should not be nominated by PMB to hold a ministerial port folio.

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions charged with the responsibility of reviewing petitions, had on yesterday Wednesday October 21, 2015 sat in the Red Chamber the National Assembly with the intent of looking into the merits of the petition against the nomination of Prof Anwukah. The Panel chaired by Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Sam Daddy) Representing lmo East had started the proceedings by introducing his members. Thereafter, Senator Nneji Achonu, the petitioner was called upon to take his seat but he was nowhere to be found. Senator Sam Anyanwu had expressed disappointment over the absence of the petitioner who was needed to come and substantiate his case; for it is he who asserts, that must prove. Nevertheless, Prof A.G Anwukah who had already occupied his seat, was called upon to offer his defense of which he did creditably.

If the event yesterday at the Senate is anything to go by then, the successful screening of Prof. Anthony Anwukah is a fait accompli. The inability of the detractors of the erudite Professor to advance and substantiate their allegations in the nick of time reminds all of us of the biblical injunction, "Because their gathering was not of the Lord, and even though they have approached through one entrance, in several ways, they shall scatter"

It is overwhelmingly malicious and shameful to concoct lies against the innocent. Now Lets set the records straight here. Prof Anthony Anwukah was never convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction.

Prof Anthony Anwukah was a victim of dexterous shenanigans that characterized the administration of governor Ikedi Ohakim. The governor was making frantic effort to return to PDP from PPA. Senator Chief Arthur Nzeribe who was the leader of PDP in Orlu zone had been unsettled with the speedy rise of Prof Anthony Anwukah and had perceived him as a threat to his continuous domination of Orlu zone.

Prof Anthony Anwukah must be demystified by all means if you were to be accepted back to PDP, Chief Nzeribe had told Ohakim. The kangaroo panel set up by Ohakim to probe Prof Anwukah--whose recommendations were written even before its inauguration was therefore entirely ill conceived, politically motivated and witch-hunt serving. Of course Prof Anthony Anwukah had gone to court and obtained favorable judgement which quashed those things.

Furthermore it may interest you to know that while Prof Anthony Anwukah was VC, Imo State University was declared the best state university in Nigeria. Prof Anthony Anwukah fought and abolished the Awaiting Result syndrome which actually brought to a halt the admission racketeering in that university.

He eradicated and stopped cultism. The University enjoyed five years of uninterrupted academic session under his Vice Chancellorship. Lots of structures sprang up from the various corners of the university campus. Prof Anwukah left over N500 million in the pension account of IMSU. A greedy Chief Executive would have easily embezzled that fund.

It is rather ridiculous and laughable to say the least that a man who left over N500 Million in the patrimony of the university with no trace of corrupt enrichment or personal aggrandizement was to be indicted later for taking a bus which was N 1 million less than the Prestige 406 car that he was entitled to go home with which he left behind.

Prof Anwukah should proceed to the Red Chamber Tomorow Tue 20th October 2015 and take a Bow

STILL ON ANWUKAH MATTERS

DSS and Sahara Reporter have received the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the impartial and competent court judgment that quashed the frivolous and mischievous recommendations of a kangaroo panel set up by former Governor of Imo State Mr. Ikedi Ohakim to investigate the illustrious administration of Prof Anthony Anwukah at Imo State University.

By this token, Prof. Anthony Anwukah has ordered Sahara Reporter to retract the slanderous and defamatory publication made against him by the news outfit within 48Hrs or face litigation.

Prof Anthony Anwukah left over N500 Million in the patrimony of Imo State University as a VC. A greedy and corrupt Chief Executive would have effortlessly looted that fund

The entire europe, America, some parts of Asia and Australia have been thrilled and engrossed in the imminent rendezvous of the New Horizon spacecraft with the Trans- Neptunian world (which I regret has been unfairly classified as a dwarf planet). Buh here in Africa and Nigeria in particular it is almost near nonchalance and indifference

The Constitution is very clear on Who nominates candidates for federal appointments. If that sacred book says, its a state governor for example, then why the hullabaloo!
