If you need a domain for a website, then you should probably buy your hosting first. Most web hosting companies offer free domains, i learnt this the hard way.
The cheapest web hosting company i know about is namecheap.... You could Check it out, you'll probably like it. Blue host is also very good, but its a little bit more expensive.
