There is this proverb that says: “If you want to go fast, walk alone; if you want to go far, walk with others.” Apparently, the Creator made us in such a way that we’ll always need the cooperation of one another to achieve much and to make meaningful and lasting impact in the world as well as in the life of fellow men. Our respective gifts and talents when combined together in perfect love and mutual understanding will always yield tremendous benefits than what’s usual, as no single tree can or will ever make a forest.
I believe we were created to be in relationship with others in other to complement each other and in so doing help bring out the best put in us, go far in life, as suggested by that proverb. Yet we cannot rule out the very fact that many have made a hell of mistakes in life and as a result wrecked their life’s boat almost beyond repair because of relationships they got themselves into. Still, choosing the lonely path, the unfriendly boulevard called ’on my own lane’ proves to be more frightening and to a very large extent dangerous.
Indeed we need one another to keep up with life’s pace, especially in this era of prevailing chaos. But Self-love has shown itself as being the major problem threatening the very basis of peaceful co-habitation and flourishing meaningful relationship amongst men. Thus it needs to be radically confronted, if we must achieve the very aim of making the world a better place for everyone, regardless of racial, religious differences and otherwise, through mutual self building.
The effect of self-love is evidently overriding the very meaning of life and conspicuously threatening the continuity of human existence in the world. Almost everything worthwhile in the human world, indeed virtues that distinguish us from mere wild animals, is today sacrificed on the polluted altar of self-centeredness. The consequence of which is not hidden---inhumanity of man to man. Escalating poverty, even in the midst of plenty, prevalent indifference to the plight of the poor and afflicted---and that prevailing even in the body of Christ, unrestricted pursuit of sexual gratification, the result being the upsurge of rape cases in families and society, and more are the outcome of this evil trend. Presently, the girl child is no longer safe in a world/family in which she belongs. She has become the prey. She is now being preyed on by even those she loves and truly trusts; those who customarily should’ve given her the protection and guidance needed for healthy growth and development. In some families today, the fathers, and perhaps because the mothers are scarcely around to monitor questionable activities in the house, have become like lions preying on their innocent little daughters to quench selfish craving for sex. Today’s parents are becoming so lackadaisical to that which should’ve made their priority---the holistic training of their kids. Even, some fathers in some families have gone so depraved, that taking their daughters to bed makes no difference to them anymore. Evidences of such abound. This evil practice—atrocious as it is--- has become a routine in many a family today.
No doubt these and more have made life’s journey extremely thorny. And in an attempt to find consolation, to find love, to find meaning and fulfillment to life, we give ourselves over and over again to others only to be hurt more each time. A relationship is started today with beautiful dreams and high hopes, only to be shattered tomorrow by the fiery blows of egotism. Thus, too often, many view life as being unfair, while to some others, it’s not worth living.
Truly, there is an answer to the pain of lost love, crashed hopes and dashed dreams. Hope comes through Jesus Christ, the son of God. He offers healing for the wounds you feel right now. He offers to walk with you through difficult times and laugh with you when life goes well.
Why? Because Jesus understands that we live in a damaged world. One beset by all forms of evil. He knows that you bear the pain of broken relationships and shattered dreams. Your pain matters to God. He wants to free you from the hurt that rules your life and love you unconditionally.
Jesus has the power to change your reality because He took the pain and shame of our sin at the cross. The Samaritan woman with serial shattered relationships encountered Christ, and He made out of her condition the message/testimony that stirred the people of her town to repentance. Stories abound in Scripture and even today, where Our Lord made and still makes the best story out of hellish conditions. He rose from the dead with the promise that we can have new life in Him.
Christ’s love is perfect and never causes harm. His love is pure and healing, washing away the pain and heartache life has dealt us.
Life and love are gifts that are meant to be shared. Share your life with Christ and experience His love first hand. God bless you!

Chiedozie Chilaka, the only man in history who claims to have been ordained priest by 2 different bishops at 2 different dates and at 2 different venues, prides himself to be a miracle worker. Thus, The Sage Newspaper made a cursory study of his so-called ‘miracles’ and discovered to the chagrin of well-meaning Catholics that these were ruse and stage-managed shows designed to deceive and exploit people. A well-grounded interview at Obiohuru, Isiala Mbano LGA, Imo State where the fake priest is based revealed that Chiedozie Chilaka charges money for every plastic seat used by people at his programs. Curiously enough, no one from Obiohuru town has been healed of confirmed sicknesses since he began his showmanship in their midst. Why has charity not began at home? Why has the dead not been raised, deaf and dumb not been healed and crippled not been made to walk from within Obiohuru community that gave him unending acres of land to invest? Again, why has Chiedozie Chilaka not been organizing crusades, healing or miracle sessions in his native land, Mbaise, so as to make his beloved people share in his multifaceted anointing? Cleverly, the fake priest picks his ‘miracle candidates’ from persons unknown in a given locality and such individuals disappear into the thin air soon after the shows to avoid investigations and close observations. True to type, when he operated at Ehime Mbano sports stadium, Chiedozie Chilaka never healed any Ehime Mbano man or woman with his ‘saving miracles’ instead he ‘raised’ dead people from the unknown while the nearby St. Vincent de Paul Hospital mortuary was overflowing with dead bodies. When Jesus Christ raised Lazarus from death, a dinner was organized in his honor and many people were there (Jn. 11 and 12); when Jesus Christ gave back life to the son of the widow of Nain, he returned him to his devastated mother and the town was enveloped in amazement (Lk 7); when Jesus Christ raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead (Mk 5), he gave her back to her parents, ordered that food be given to her and the people were filled with wonder. But to the contrary when Chiedozie Chilaka ‘raises’ people from ‘death’, the candidates would just run away and disappear to avoid being caught! Did not the Scripture rightly declare that ‘My people perish for lack of knowledge’? Interestingly, a film is presently making round that shows how Chiedozie Chilaka fraudulently ‘healed’ a sick person who was said to have vomited a lizard. Providentially, it was aptly picked in the recorded video tape how one of the aides of the conman smartly released the lizard which was said to have been vomited by the hired ‘sick person’.
Notably, in his insatiable thirst for show off, the double-ordination ‘priest’ would set up a long table which he calls spiritual theatre in front of his altar during his ‘Mass’ and then invites his selected candidates to lie on it while he ‘searches’ their problems. In such settings, Chiedozie Chilaka’s lack of liturgical formation is exposed because he does not know items that could or could not be handled at his so-called ‘Masses’. At one of the cases, a woman was laid on the table and “holy” water was poured on her; Rev. Sisters were asked to bring their rosaries and encircle her as prayers were going on for her. After prayers at the theatre, the patient was declared to be healed. Nevertheless, from all practical indications, the people of God are getting more educated on the intrigues and gimmicks of the fake priest and are no more rushing to the venue of exploitation at Obiohuru. In fact, addressing his depleted congregation on Wednesday, 29 July, 2015 Chiedozie Chilaka declared in self-defense that his ‘miracles’ are not fake and that God should expose him shamefully if it is so. Honestly, all Catholics nay Christians of goodwill are praying that this much desired shameful exposition comes sooner than later!

Children are terrific, happy, innocent, and harmless beings; and as such deserve all the protection and care we can give. Their very life reminds us of what life and interpersonal relations should be, also what is best about ourselves. The hope of every family, community, state, and country is dependent on the quality of the children there. And no family is, or will ever be complete without a child. Thus there is nothing more important and worth giving every attention than the health, happiness, moral upbringing and protection of our children. It is not in question that any child given sound parental/moral upbringing, and raised in a healthy environment will grow up into a real future leader.
Unfortunately, the score sheet, if we’re to tell ourselves the truth, shows we’re really lacking in this regard; considering the recent surge of child sexual abuse in the country and beyond. Some sex maniacs—regrettably, many of whom are parents---have adopted a different method of gratifying their ravenous sexual lust. The tide is no longer as before. Today children are the target thus, putting the freedom, rights, lives and future of our kids on the precipice. Whether this is as a consequence of unrestricted use of the internet and the social media, the rise in wild range of products capable of sexual arousal, remains not in doubt.
Our national dailies, today, are filled with really bloodcurdling stories of child sexual abuse, by those who customarily should’ve protected them from such, which lives one wondering what could be done to curtail the proliferation of this evil trend, and nip in the bud this horrid tendency of adult/parents pedophiles around. What we hear and read in newspapers, almost on daily basis regarding this matter, can best be described as horrifying, absolutely!
Very recently, there was this report, as bizarre and atrocious as it was, that emerged on the internet and in some of our national dailies, of a father, so-called anyway, who was in the act of sexually abusing his 7 year old daughter, and would pay her off after, a kind of. Similar cases involving parents sexually abusing their kids abound, and recently are on the rise with impunity; it’s really becoming very unbecoming. This is happening despite our respective cultural heritage and background, religious beliefs and teachings abhorring such. What makes the case cited so nauseating and devoid of human comprehension, is the reported manner in which the demoniac of a man, who I suppose may be either an occultist or a crackbrain, was carrying out the nefarious act. What else should I say? For a man to have been putting his erectile organ of copulation into his 7 year old daughter’s mouth (as the story had it, that he had been doing that for months, and his other kids knew about it before the wife got wind of it) for whatever reason is unheard of. This is insanity of the highest order; one that defies logic and commonsense, insults morality and decorum, and betrays the very essence of human existence. And is far worse an evil deserving of life imprisonment, or perhaps something more severe. Many people have expressed outrage over this issue. And I choose to in this manner because of what is at stake here—the life and future of our children! May God help us!
The truth be told: it is either we—both government, NGOs, Church and other religious bodies and individuals--- join hands to put up practical measures that will help in achieving an enduring solution to this menace, or we’re ready to welcome with shame, in the very nearest future, the harvest of this evil being bred, which its likelihood is--- a caliginous future swarming with whackos/pedophiles of irrepressible wings. Imagine what it would look like! We cannot afford to undermine the huge awfully negative impact of this evil trend brewing, if not contained now, in the psychological development of our kids, both presently and in future. This and more being the reason I thought it wise doing this little work.
Both psychological experience and otherwise has shown that sexual abuse on children if not promptly dealt with, will end up birthing for society, as already remarked, youths who themselves are child abusers—pedophiles--- instead of leaders; as this chronic criminal behavior is often been perpetrated by people who were themselves subjected to abuse. Let’s not forget how children learn---by imitation and practice. And, chances are, that kids subjected to this eerie condition may grow up seeing nothing bad in it, especially considering where and who taught them the act.
Consider that people who sexually abuse children are likely to be people very close to them. It could even be people we care about, or people who tend to care about them. It would be easy to figure out who sexually abuses children if they were like the ones we see on TV—you know, those strangers hanging around the edges of playgrounds, or the “monsters,” who kidnap and kill children. But honestly, they’re hardly ever anything close to that. Regrettably, often people who sexually abuse children—both those who’ve been reported and those who haven’t—are fathers, mothers, step-parents, grandparents, and other family members (uncles, aunts, cousins). Or they’re neighbors, babysitters, clergy, teachers, coaches, friends to the family, or anyone else who has close contact with our children. Actually, we can’t tell who they are by the way they look. What they have in common is that they think about sexual interactions with children and then they act on those thoughts by sexually abusing a child. We know that child sexual abuse happens every day across the country, with little regard for social classes, racial or ethnic groups, religious affiliations, or sexual orientation. That means that adults and youth who have sexually abused a child live in the same neighborhoods, shop in the same stores, and use the same facilities that we do. We may know them personally as part of our family or extended family, or in our circle of friends and neighbors.
But we may not know about their sexual interests in kids. It’s hard to face the fact that someone we know and like might sexually abuse children. But because it’s true, we all need to know what to look for and how to make sure that everyone we know lives up to an expectation of safety in our homes and communities.
In 90% of child sexual abuse cases, the child knows and trusts the person who sexually abuses them.
Thus these are signs to look out for, when trying to spot a potential child abuser:
• Activities can include any conventional adult sexual activity with a child. Also included are acts such as touching the child's genitals or handling with the intention of arousing sexual feelings. Know that intentions aren’t written on the face.
• Prolonged kissing; whether French, American, or even let it be Igbo kissing, cuddling, and excessive touching. Looking at children either with or without clothes lustfully is also included.
• Photographing, videotaping, or filming of naked children is not excluded.
• Exposing a child to erotic material in the form of live behavior (excessive nudity), photographs, film, or video. If you happen to notice the person having a collection of any photographs or images of children taken by others in suggestive poses, or collection of any photographs of naked children. . Inappropriate intimacy with children may also be suspected. Any efforts to seduce a minor into a sexual relationship, whether the act is accomplished or not, is considered a form of child sexual abuse and should result in severe legal consequences.
Note:To identify the physical signs of child sexual abuse, parents should know the normal appearance of the Instruments of their child so that they can identify if any changes occur. If a child complains about problems with his or her genitals, please implore a discreet way to find out what could have gone wrong, and possibly take the child to your family doctor for examination. Children in day care, children cared for by others, or children who spend time alone with other people should be given close monitoring, as they may be at risk of sexual abuse
PHYSICAL SIGNS A CHILD HAS BEEN SEXUALLY ABUSED.
• Changes in behavior, including discipline problems, fecal soiling, bed wetting, insomnia, nightmares, depression, or other changes in the way a child normally acts can be signs of sexual abuse. Parents should discuss the possible reasons for such changes in behaviors with professionals who are in a position to properly evaluate the behavioral changes and explore the possibility of child sexual abuse. Remember, a stitch in time saves nine! Save a child today and you would’ve saved a nation. God bless you!

Gradually, the year is winding up. Soon readings at Mass will adopt a different tone than the usual. The Lord, through His bride –the Church—will start in on doing the needful—bringing to our notice the expected-but-rarely-thought-of fact: our inevitable end. Though this phenomenon remains non- negotiable to everyone still harboring the breath of life, yet the reason we tend to shove it under the carpet, give it less or no attention as if it never existed, remains rather elusive to reason, even when it should’ve made the very basis of our individual meditation, each morning.
There are basics in life we shouldn’t ignore, or even try to, considering what enormous life-shaping impact that comprehending them could build in our lives; and this very fact makes the prime of them. It doesn’t matter, then, what opinion one may hold about death; actually we’re all entitled to our respective opinions, anyway. However, the fact remains that someday you will walk the path of other mortals, and so am I. And there’s no need playing down this fact as if doing so will help shrug off its reality. In my opinion, I strongly think that the sooner we get this fact engraved in our bosom, for daily contemplation, the better for us, and society as well.
Scripture says something to this effect, “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Ps 90:12). There is no doubt this is one of the greatest prayers ever recorded in Scripture. For, there abound many things, indeed justifiable and unjustifiable distractions today capable of turning our hearts away from contemplating our end, which ordinarily, as already remarked, should form the center stage in our hearts. For only then can our hearts be truly channeled unto true wisdom thus, our individual conduct and relations toward another gain focus and genuine meaning.
Ecclesiastes chapter 12 has a more eloquent and soul-searching admonition to give on this regard. The Spirit, through the preacher (the writer) says, Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, (simply put—now that you still have the breath of life in you) while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened, And the doors shall be shut in the streets, ( Yes, the door of that your shop or office shut, while your teeming customers, admirers and friends stand helplessly staring agape at the poster on it; and your goods and loads of other acquired goodies ,then, would feel the cruel hands of sharers, and your array of certificates lie helpless and meaningless at their corner); Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity… For God shall then bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. This is unlike what we would want preached to us, isn’t it? Oh, would that I know when this shall be, my own end, and that the thought of it would dominate my thought daily; how about you?
Certainly, I know that I may’ve distressed you a bit, considering how dearly we love life and loathe being reminded of the inevitable, our end. Please bear with me. But, as already said, we should not play down the very fact, that certainly one day will mark the end of our earthly existence, but the beginning of another--an eternal one. For death in the body does not end life, no! Rather, according to revelation knowledge, as contained in Scripture, it’s the only route to entering into another realm of existence where life does not end. “Unless a seed sown in the ground dies, it cannot bring forth new life”, remember who said that? Thus it is rather foolhardy not to acknowledge this fact, although as cold as it is. Well, no matter how hard one tries to avoid this truth, or shun its mind-probing power, it still stays as an unavoidable and inescapable reality, which with clinical precision, on daily basis and through various means, blares to earsplitting point its reminder trumpet to our near-deaf ears. It’s a pity, really!
Let me move back a little. There is this thing about life that interests me: we actually start a funeral match, each of us, at conception. For some this trip is cut short, as they do not even make it till birth, not even given the opportunity to grasp the color of the blue sky, express that husky melody characteristic of newborns, or experience the tender touch of the mid-wife, or the warmth of a mother’s bosom. To others this tour is snapped at the very prime of their life; you know, just when everything seems to be going on well and the traffic light blinking green. While there are others who may be given the opportunity to tender wrinkles and grow old and gray before expiring.
Now, I’ve got to repeat this question I asked earlier, in my first sharing at the beginning of the year: in what way would you like to leave when death comes knocking? Perhaps with words like that of King Saul’s hanging on your lips, “Then said Saul… I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly”, or with words like that of the other Saul who later became Apostle Paul, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” (2Tim 4:7-. Whichever, the choice is your s to make. God bless you!
